Basically the LEO lines up as a DE and drops back into coverage more often; the Viper is a hybrid LB, so more variable in lining up with a hand down or back as a rushing LB.
I like this move... He is very aggressive to the ball and he will have some freedom to rush the passer here. We are going to need to replace Simon and Williams and I think he is a great candidate for that position.
This is the position he was born to play and with a year under his belt at LB to get better in coverage he should seamlessly make the transition. Its also the position he played in HS and we all know that highlight tape by now. Simplifying the game for a kid that goes 100 mph every play is a very good move by the staff.
Great move but I hope he doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

I agree here... I think he will be better off being able to rush the passer. Last year when Urban said he didn't know where he was going, but he could get from point A to point B faster than anyone that let me know Marcus might not be able to understand the scheme enough for LB. I know the LEO drops back in coverage some, but it will be more simplified than a traditional LB position.
I just wanted to add that I think it's a good move but time will tell.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
He always has been a pass-rushing specialist. This allows him to see the field in passing situations and be a stand-up rusher too. Good move.
I don't think this is much of a surprise, many assumed that he was scouted as a LEO or Viper
Hopefully, he will provide us some good depth. We will be very young this year, but we should be explosive.
@Buck-I.8 What is the difference between a Leo and a Viper?

I've always viewed him in the Nathan Williams role type of player

Great move by the coaches hopefully he'll battle get in the rotation and give some depth behind Spence and Miller
Great move but I hope he doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
