Gamble Released

Kind of a bummer...

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday they have released veteran cornerback Chris Gamble in a move that puts the team under the salary cap...

"I appreciate the contributions of Chris during my first two years as head coach and to the organization for many years," said Panthers coach Ron Rivera. "He always handled things the right way, and we wish him the best."

...though looks like he'll be alright. Anyone know which other teams will be likely to pick him up?

Our guys at Scouts Inc. rate Chris Gamble, released by the Carolina Panthers, as the top cornerback available in free agency. Another veteran cornerback without a team is Aaron Ross, who was let go by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He will be scooped up quick I believe. He has been a very good player on a bad team for years. As a Saints fan, I am glad he out of Carolina

Saw this scroll off ESPN while out earlier. Business decision, no doubt Gamble won't be picked up before too long.

Wish my team (Redskins) could afford him. Maybe they could dump D Hall and pick Gamble up....

Dear Jerry (Reese),

Please sign my man Chris. I am tired of seeing Webster toasted.

                                                               Thanks,

                                                               Chief

At 6'1", 205, he can guard the bigger receivers in the league and we all know he is a great athlete so his agents phone will be ringing off the hook.  Would love to see him in a Brown uniform but since he is 29 he should chase a ring.

I am 6' 1" 205+/- (mostly +) and I would love to see Mr. Gamble in orange and brown and white.

By the way, cap or not, since when are the Panthers and Jags in position to be releasing top CBs?

Doesn't matter who you are, for $10MM to play a few games he's not worth it. He'll get snagged fast, but no for $10MM a year, no one will pay him that. Salary forces teams to make tough calls, unfortunately it means bad teams have to drop good players.

Hmm, I think my thoughts on this differ from the rest of you guys.  Gamble is definitely serviceable, but he has struggled a lot in Carolina.  Say what you will about being on a bad team, but he gets beat quite a bit, isn't a very strong corner and has lost a step both physically and in terms of mental toughness/intensity.  Again, he is definitely serviceable and will get scooped up quickly.  I live in NC and without Sunday Ticket, the only games I get are Panthers games, and two other games on Sunday afternoons, and of course the Sunday/Monday night games

He's been hurt the past two years and is certainly past his prime. All this talk that he's still a top CB is a little rose colored glasses. He's had a great career, he's still a good CB when healthy, but he's not a $10MM CB anymore. Doesn't mean he's not a starting CB, he's better than all the Lions starting CBs combined.

Colts have corner a top of their free agent wish list.  He would be a great addition to any team.
