Keeping up on teams elsewhere in the B1G when I can.
I've had the feeling Bo Pelini is in for a critical (re: hot seat variety) year. Upon reading a post-Saturday practice presser via NBC, sounds like he's not exactly thrilled with what he's seeing thus far:

I shudder to think how Kerry Coombs would be reacting if he were in Lincoln.
They don't improve on that putrid defense he'll be gone, maybe even mid-season if they get off to a slow start. Considering the beating they took in the 2013 recruiting I cannot see a scenario where they will be much better this season. With Osborne no longer the AD his days are definitely numbered.

He's won 9 or more games in all 5 of his years at Nebraska. Unless they just go 5-7, I can't see him getting fired.

I agree, but crazier things have happened....look at Minnesota. I bet they'd give their left gopher nut to have Glen Mason back.

Nah. Minnesota would probably still suck.

Didn't Bo redshirt some talent on his dline last year? Maybe that will be his savior.
They're lucky they're not slated to play us this year if a grade school offense would've moved the ball on them as Pelini said. :)
Kerry Coombs is smart enough NOT to be in Lincoln..................
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Who the heck could they bring in that would do more with less like Pelini has?
The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...
I have no idea who they might bring in to replace Pelini if it gets down to that. The real problem is is how bad his defense looks in really big games..........Wisconsin scored 70 in the Champ. game and Ohio State last year scored 63 on them......they look physically overmatched against big physical style type teams....I'd guess there aren't too many physical teams in the Big 12 or whatever they call it now because I don't remember Nebraska getting manhandled like they have been

Nebraska is not the team it used to be obviously, they routinely had the biggest offensive lines in college football year in and year out.
Surprisingly, Pelini is ranked well down the list - at 74 - on the Coaches Hot Seat Ranking.
Wow, thanks for sharing. I figured he'd get the heat as the upcoming season got underway.
I think unless he gets that defense stabilized, he could be in trouble. I like Pelini, he's a Buckeye, but I see him getting an Earle Bruce ending over there.

Defense had a better practice on Monday. There are nine redshirt freshman or sophomores getting time with the first unit defense. So there is a lot of youth, but the defense will be more athletic and faster than Nebraska has had in the last five seasons. Obviously it will be an up and down season on defense.
Tks for the update. Pulling for Pelini, the conference needs Nebraska to hold the line (no pun intended).

So...how will your youthful defense be compared to ours? An even better question...how well will you experienced offense be compared to ours??? I'd say these are rhetorical in nature wouldn't you say so too??? You seem like such a video analyst expert...wondered if you could help me out with answering those questions.

FWIW......tOSU and Brasky don't even play again until 2017, so comparisons would be rhetorical.

I get the feeling that Pelini is sort of like Cooper - winning enough to not justify firing him, but still leaving a lot to be desired. For someone who is a defensive coach that team gives up a lot of points. And I feel as if Taylor Martinez is somewhat of a Reggie Ball: a four year starter who has shown some promise but is pretty meh-to-terrible most of the time. I work with a Nebraska alum and he is pretty resigned to the fact that Pelini won't take them to the next level anytime soon.

I think Pelini will be on the hot seat if he does come out slow early and has a lose or 2, but as of this moment I think he is just fine. Sometimes it does only take one bad season after a few lackluster seasons that could doom someone.
Who would replace Pelini, well that is the answer that we all should fear. What inter conference team has a lot of great coaches that would be willing to take a head coaching position at Neb? Hmmmm...
Sad to say but I think Herman and Withers might be gone after this year, just hope they don't go to another B1G team and bring a major challenge. Not to mention at least half of the current HC in the B1G are ex Buckeye coaches, I would prefer they weren't al ex buckeye coaches.
