Per Todd McShay on 2/28/2013 (couldn't find this references elsewhere in the forum) he has big hank out of the 1st round.
During the season they had him in the top 10 at point.
Was leaving a mistake if he goes in the 2nd round? The obvious other question is what would have happened had he come back.

Whether bottom of the first or top of the second round, he's still going to be a wealthy individual. The Bucks would certainly be much better had he decided to come back, but this is an opportunity for someone else to step up.
Regardless of what the McShays and Kipers of the world would have us believe, their mocks don't matter, and we won't know for sure where the big man will land until next month.
The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...
CC, this note isn't intended to be argumentative... but my question is where do NFL team directors of player personnel (i.e. Ozzie Newsome, Nick Caserio) have him ranked?
Big Hank didn't have an amazing combine performance so it doesn't surprise me to see him "sliding" on the media boards. IMO he still goes in the 2nd half of the 1st Round to a playoff-contender.
Keep Calm and Ignore the Trolls.
I agree. I don't watch the NFL and don't know the salary differences between 1st or 2nd round. My thought is based on the logic that many here use, specifically the "he'll be a first rounder so he should go.". Well now it appears it't not a lock like it was once thought.
I'm not questioning hanks value and as you can tell from my post I would love to have him back. I'm also not suggesting mcshea is the know all, but there was a time when he was projected as a top five pick, now it's not a given. I was posing a hypothetical to all those who use the 1st rounders should go logic.
Pardon my ignorance but does it matter as much anymore since they don't give those huge first contracts to rookies?

I was just about to say the same thing. With the new rookie contracts there isn't a huge gap between first round and second round. Even if you are a top 10 pick. Hank will be fine and has the talent level to stay on a team for 5-10 years IMO. He is going to be fine no matter where he is drafted. And for my 2 cents I think he will be drafted in the 20's which puts him on a competitive team where he can excell.
I couldn't give less shits about about what Todd McShay or any other crony from ESECPN thinks of Big Hank. What matters is what the teams' talent evaluators think of him. The idiots from ESPN are just trying to make themselves look like experts by releasing their rankings and spouting off self important garbage every time they do. I think most "experts" would see Big Hank's potential and pick him up if he slides to the later picks in the first round.

Look it's really simple. Hank's ability to maintain quickness at a high weight is something that is extremely rare. He isn't going to best other DT's at the combine, BUT he is more FOOTBALL valuable because he has legit size PLUS above average athleticism. That combined with his personality===Automatic 1st rounder. I would be shocked if he dropped. There is no way a contender with a 3-4 defense lets him slip past their grasps. He is the perfect size eater in that scheme.
Not to be he Debby's downer, but the concern was that he needs to take plays off because his stamina with that size. OSU had a steady diet of rotating DTs that gave big hank a break. For him to be successful, if the concern are true, he'll need a solid DT rotation to be productive which reduces his value. Just playing devils advocate, he'll be a great pro, but his value as a first rounder is also contingent on his ability to be in the game more than less.
thoughts?
Hope San Fran can grab him at either 31 or 34.

If the Steelers pick him, I'm getting his jersey right away to replace my James Harrison and Mike Wallace jerseys
They could certainly use him to replace Big Snack. But the Steelers will go Best Player Available as long as there is any need at the position as they do in the first round of every draft.
Amen. That's why they draft as well as anyone. I'd love to see it start translating a little more on the field again (the team staying healthy wouldn't hurt either), but I agree.
I hope my Falcons take him. We desperately need to improve our d-line after cutting Abraham. I also would really love for us to take Margus Hunt out of SMU. Dude is an absolute beast.
49ers! go up against Alex Boone in practice
I want my Packers to get him. I know, we already have a nose tackle, but him + Raji + Pickett would help Matthews/the rest of the defense out a lot. I'd also love Simon/Williams to play opposite of Matthews, that front 7 would be pretty nice.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
+1 for being a Packer fan!
And I totally agree with wanting Hankins.
I called this and got BLASTED for saying this.
Colts will not let him slide past them in the mid 20s in the first round. A big position of need for them and he fits perfect in the scheme they are running now.

Looks like he is sliding... FWIW Scout INC. released a 7-round Mock Draft...
First Buckeye Drafted... John Simon, Round 3 pick 24 (86th overall by the Colts)
With Hankins coming 3 picks later Rd 3 pk 27 (89th overall by the Texans)
Damn, Big Hank... Should've came back!
Oh as for other Buckeyes they had Fragel going at the end of the 4th round to the Ravens, Stoney Mid-6th Rd to the Steelers, and Nathan Williams Mid-7th Rd to the 49ers.

What could he possibly have done to go from a theoretical top 5 pick to a 3rd rounder in a draft where QB's and RB's are down?
There is virtually no chance he falls out of the second round, considering there are still 1 or 2 mocks out there that have him as a late first rounder
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Shouldn't the NFL Draft just rename itself as "Let's Waste Time, Money and Broadcast Air on Hype and Blowhards for a Couple of Days"?
I've always preferred college football. Goodell and Associates are doing nothing to sway that.

Its amazing how you can "slide" without playing any games. Bunch of crap if you ask me!

Agree Big Hank should have came back just not ready to be a first round pick imo.
Agreed about how amazing it is that guys can drop so far sometimes without playing any games. Kind of reminds me of the Elway to Marino 30 for 30 last night where Marino dropped all the way to late first round and was the 6th QB taken based on silly rumors, one being that he used hard drugs lol.
Well I think the main reason he dropped is he's more of a run stuffer rather then anything and teams are looking for players who can both stuff the run and get after the QB. I don't think it's as much as him dropping as it is other DT raising their stocks through the combine and film study. And by this, he drops because not many teams have glaring needs at the DT position after those projected to be drafted in front of him are gone.
Thats a bunch of bologna! Hankins had more sacks then Floyd. They dont just hand you sacks, you have to earn them.

I was kind of shocked they have him being drafted after Simon though. But liked seeing Fragel jump up into the 4th round.
What kills me is, all season long when people were actually playing. He was probably the top at his position. I kept hearing Shariff Floyd was number 2 or even 3. Now, Floyd is like a lock to be a top 5 pick? WTF happened between the time when people actually played meaningful football and now? I guess it really doesn't matter, hopefully he'll go late first round to a good team.
big hank.can't pass rush n some.other dts can which makes them more valuable in the nfl

Hank is one dimensional at the DT position and he won't be able to play as many downs as you'd expect from a first rounder. He fits the 2nd round mold IMO, maybe slipping late in the first on a team needing a big DT to eat up space as a semi-final building block for another SB run. I have no idea why someone would even imagine him sliding to the third... that is dumb, some team will be smart enough to take a flyer on him earlier than that.
Hmmm thats funny...Hankins had more sacks in his career(at 30 lbs heavier) then Floyd, but hes not a pass rusher?
Crazy how the draft is all about hype and B.S and less about production.
