Both. I watched the UA All-American game and he looked like the best QB out there, and with reduced schollies and no proven QB he's at least being looked at.
Bench who the PSU fans are really high on. Seems pretty athletically gifted, but when Matt McGloin is in front of him on the roster you draw your on conclusions. Side note. I was arguing with some PSU fan on ESPN about who they'd rather have Urban with Braxton, or BoB with Bench, and he without a doubt told me Bench. This was before the season. Guess we saw how that turned out.
As long as he continues the long standing pick-six tradition we love so much, it really doesn't matter who is the QB this fall. Also, not going to be mad when we all get to scream SACK-ENBURG after Diesel gets to him
If Denard Robinson isn't careful with spooning all that food into his mouth, he's going to end up lookin' like Whoopi Goldberg
Both....they only have four QB's listed on their spring roster (which Hackenberg isn't listed), two true freshmen, one true soph and one redshirt soph.
Hackenburg will start IMO and he will have his growing pains. I see this as the year PSU feels the NCAA punishments. They could surprise but a 4 win team is seems likely considering the senior leadership they lost. Hackenburg is legit but I don't think he has enough playmakers around him, expect him and PSU to be more of a threat in his 3rd year. Not hoping this will happen but could see him getting beat up quite a bit this year assuming he starts.
It'll be interesting to see what path they take with him. One one hand they could start him and take the lumps because there are relatively low expectations. Or you could read shirt him and save his body from the beating. Which ultimately is giving yourself an extra year with him sanction free. Then again, with the way coaching is nowadays, there seems to be less and less five year plans.
I hope they are decent this year. I have no love for PSU but these kids have a lot of heart to commit to a school that leads to nowhere. If they survive this year, they have a shot at some better recruits next year. If O'Brien stays they will be a force to contend with in a few years, which will be good for our Division III Conference.
I'd be surprised if he didn't start from game 1. He is very good, but having said that, there's no real QB competition there. I'm still shocked he committed to play at PSU, given his blue chip status/talent, combined with PSU's state of program, stigma, and sanctions.
He will be an interesting kid to watch, few heralded recruits have a chance to start for 4 years. Even if he doesn't start immediately he will likely be the quarterback at Penn State for most of his career, he has a chance to start a legacy or have the success go to his head and end up like Pryor.
If Christian Hackenburg "ends up like Pryor" Penn State fans will be pleased with his 31 career wins in three* years, 2 bowl wins*, an undefeated record against his rivals, and taking up real estate in most, if not all, of the record books for a QB.
Nice attempt at a pot shot though.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I loved Pryor when he was here, I just meant it from an off the field perspective. I couldn't think of another 4 year legacy that had negative consequences maybe Schlichter? If Pryor ended up not playing until his Junior or Sophmore year, I think Tressel might still be here.
So is that the timeline when Jim Tressel started enabling his players? I'm one of, if not the biggest pro Pryor guy on this board but I won't say he was without fault. Obviously he made some mistakes, but so did JT. Let's not make a mistake about it. Jim Tressel got Jim Tressel fired. Not Terrelle Pryor.

Tressel always enabled his players. I didn't mean to imply that Pryor got Tressel fired just that I think Pryor would have been a little more grounded had he not started right away. There is a certain risk that comes with allowing quarterbacks to start from Day 1. Although I have to say, it hasn't worked out too bad with Braxton to this point.
I thought that Tressel should have waited on him and let Boeckman have his senior year but after the Usc game that was hard to do. I actually thought that Tressel should have used him like Florida used Tebow, specific packages.

All those qb's looked terrible.
Both, agreed. Hackenburg is crazy good.
McGloin graduated. Who else do they have?
The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...

The sophomore appeared in two games last year (12 passing yards), and the redshirt soph is a juco transfer from California.
Would expect to see Hackenberg this year for them. They're going to struggle.

Hackenburg will probably be the best QB to come out of this class.
He will have one, maybe two pick-6s against OSU this year.
Class of 2010.

They lost Rob Bolden and Paul Jones who were both pretty highly ranked.

I know it is a little off topic, but how is Bolden doing? he ended up at LSU??
pat cozzens
They suck at QB.

I don't know. Maybe. But Terrelle Pryor was recruited to play almost immediately.
