I was ten years old, in 1975. For me, this was the highlight of The Ten Year War.
Ohio State was 10-0 and #1, when Michigan Week began. The build-up was gigantic. Growing up in Toledo was like being on the front line: there were way too many Michigan fans (still are) and all of them were predicting an upset. We got in fights on the playground, all week.
The Game was tight, tied 14-14, late in the 4th quarter. Archie's younger brother Ray (#44) intercepted a Rick Leach pass and almost returned it for a touchdown. Then, Pete Johnson took it in. Ohio State beat Michigan. Ohio State was the Big Ten Champion. Ohio State was 11-0 and #1. This was a great day, in American history.
Thanks to 10TV, you can re-live some of that glory: see then, one-time Heisman trophy winner Archie Griffin and hear Woody Hayes praise...the passing game!
