Yea I just saw the corn and smurf and thought about the starving kids not the fact that it was Long Henne and Hart.
FWIW Hart is now coaching for EMU. That NFL run was short for a quality back.

We need to get EMU on the schedule... Can anyone say 0-5?

I should hope even while he was at Michigan Jake Long wouldn't have cared about this thread. The fact that he was the rightfully number 1 pick in the 2008 draft should have had no impact, regardless.
But this is Pure Michigan isn't it? Attack their recent record against OSU and you get met with over all numbers. Attack arguably the best OT, RB, and QB in Michigan history for their failures to win anything of merit and you get greeted with one of their draft results. This isn't an NFL discussion, its a collegiate one and as collegians, those three-who occupy real estate in the Michigan Pantheon, couldn't win anything that mattered. 0-4 against OSU, one of the worst beats in NCAA history at home to ASU, 1 bowl win against Florida, an embarrassing beat down at the hands of USC in the consolation prize Rose Bowl and victims of Vince Young's coming out party before that.
I get that Long went on to be one of the best tackles in the NFL and that Henne is still enjoying his cup of coffee in the league as well but that wasn't the discussion. In terms of what they did at Michigan-the answer is nothing of importance.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are three of the more beloved Wolverines in school history no? While they were at Michigan, they were monumental losers in games of importance-especially against the Buckeyes.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Sorry, Brewster. I didn't know I was supposed to defend their entire careers or overall team record. We are concerned with the whole team when it comes to wins and losses right?
Nothing of importance? A two-time Consensus All-American, Michigan's all-time passing leader in yards, completions, and TDs, and Michigan's all-time leader in rushing yards, 1 of 4 players in the B1G with over 5,000 yards, and a Heisman finalist. Hart will also be remembered for being successful, though undersized, and only losing three fumbles (two of which came in his final game).
They were 6-6 against their rivals. 0-4 against OSU is disappointing, to say the least, but it doesn't define a player's legacy; a coach, maybe. I mean, does the fact that Eddie George, Orlando Pace, Joey Galloway, and so on, only beat Michigan once tarnish their careers at OSU? I hope you don't feel that way.
Bowl games are bowl games. OSU beat Ok St in the Alamo Bowl and ND in the Fiesta Bowl, while losing to Colt McCoy-led Texas, and then the ol' beatdown by everyone's favorite Buckeye, UFM. And to clarify, 41-14 is a "Beatdown." Losing by 14 to USC playing a home game is not. Losing a fantastic game to Texas on a last second FG sucks, but what are you going to do? Michigan was a pretty big dog going into that Capital One bowl vs Florida (in Florida, mind you). It was an impressive win. The Nebraska game in 2005 was just the icing on the cake of a truly disappointing season.
So sure, 0-4 vs OSU, .500 vs all the rivals, 1-3 in bowl games, 1 B1G title, the Horror, and 18 total losses aren't glamorous for the four years those three were at Michigan, but it's not all on them by a long shot. Pick a period of Michigan dominance and we can look at things from the other side.

We only care about stuff we were alive for, and or fans for. Since I stared becoming an OSU fan about the age of 7/8 (where I could actually remember players, plays and games) I can count on one hand the amount of times we lost too tsun (turning 26 in 2 weeks). Props to tsun for the overall w/l record but since both have been members of the Big 10 I'm pretty sure the record is dead even in terms of wins & losses.
Ps I think the point being even with all those accolades and accomplishments you mentioned they were still winless against The Ohio State which I think we all know is the most important game and or win your team could have. But being 0-4 I can see why you'd want to overlook that.. but I'd bet that would be your main argument had the roles been reversed.
If you are 26, you were definitely alive for everything I mentioned. I'm 29, so Galloway was on the cusp of my football watching beginnings, so you wouldn't remember him [probably].
So, flip it around this way. An average QB, RB, and LT from a Michigan team that never lost to OSU, does that make them better or give them more accolades than Long, Hart, and Henne? I'm not going to look up names, but '88-93 Michigan won all but one, which was a tie.
It pre dates me a bit, and I know Grbac was there for most of that time, but I'm sure you can do the same thing with OSU greats and not-greats.
I'll chalk it up to Tressel being the better coach or OSU having a better team, not that the big three weren't immensely talented.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Ok! Now we are cooking with a little gas here.
First and foremost, I don't think (hang on while I check).....Ok nope. I didn't bring up individual accolades so what they did as individuals doesn't make a lick of difference to me. Secondly. Pace, George, and Galloway did only win one against Michigan-which is infinatley more wins than Hart, Henne, and Long had against OSU. Does only one win tarnish their reputation? No. Would 0 have? Yes. What part of this rivalry don't you get? As far as defining a players legacy-that's a clear line in the sand you and I aren't on the same side of-especially in the case of Henne. A 4 year starter who holds or is close to holding every major passing record at UM but never beat Ohio State and thus, never got his team to the top of the mountain doesn't see his rep dip a little because he was 0-4 in the biggest rivalry in sports? As for Mike Hart-you have yet another wildly accomplished player who basically did it in every game of his career save for Ohio State three times out of 4...that doesn't hurt him either? I'll give Long a bit of a pass, because the best left tackle in the world can play on the worst team in the league\nation through no fault of his own but his worst games generally came at the hands of Ohio State too. My point here is this-If you are looking at these three guys specifically and where they fit into the picture of all time Michigan greats, their sheer ineptitude against their biggest rival doesn't factor in? They couldn't beat Ohio State when they were the superior team in 2004, equally matched in 2005 and 2006, or the inferior team in 2007. That doesn't affect the over all picture people have of them? If not, then I guess I'm wrong for thinking it does.
Finally, if you want to think Michigan didn't get beat down by USC in that game-a game in which they scored a garbage time TD with a minute left to make it a 14 point game and rushed for a whopping 12 yards-then by all means go on thinking that. Its clearly important to you to think your team just lost, and not embarrassingly. How very Notre Dame of you.

I'm sorry, who are you fellas again?
Oh....0-4 vs OSU, 0-1 vs Appalachian State....
