Last year we heard talk from coach Meyer about possibly having Braxton and Guiton on the field at the same time in some fun plays. Could we actually see it this year with the additions of JT Barrett and Jalin Marshall, who even though is not a great QB can still throw an okay ball.
How about some new play ideas for fun. Here is one that I thought would be funny but if it can work, would be pretty cool.
The Double Pistol!
In the backfield could have both Braxton and JT Barrett (sorry but guiton is left out because this is predicated on the best running QBs and not so much throwing) standing next to each other in the pistol with Jalin behind them. Braxton will be the voice to hike the ball but not necessarily the guy the ball gets hiked to. It could be either one. Once the ball is hiked, the QB that didn't get the ball runs out to the flat away from the play, the QB that gets the ball runs an option going the other way with Jalin. Before that though, the read will be to see if the weakside defenders leak out to follow the other QB or follows the play in their role as the backside stopper. Lets say he follows the play, then the QB with the ball can role out and toss to the QB in the flat. That could be either Barrett or Braxton in the open with the option to pass or run. If the defender follows the QB to the flat, then its all option on the other side and one less defender coming from the backside. Now you have 3 guys who can throw the ball, all spread out behind the line of scrimmage. the ball carrier can either toss to a Jalin Marshall who is back away from any defender or step back and toss it himself if necessary. Or do just a run play, depending on what the defense follows. The whole time, Devin Smith, Mike Thomas and Philly Brown (I don't care what he says, that is an awesome nickname and will make him money!) will run routes most likely with man coverage. 3 possible passers all spread out, 3 possible receivers with man coverage and 3 possible runners most likely with room to run.
It could work!
Again, this is just a fun, silly play that I think is not well thought out but if it did, could be a nasty possibility. I do think with Barrett and Marshall now on board,a dual QB play can very possibly happen whether it becomes a straight up half back pass or something crazy like my Double Pistol!
Any fun play ideas that you can think of that would utilize this new talent? Eze in the BuckWild?

I like it. Part of the zone read scheme is to create mismatches. Having literally everyone on the field as a threat to take a snap is a nightmare for defenses.

I have thought since Jalin was committed that the first play of 2013 will be a double pass. Braxton to Jalin, Jalin to Smith (or maybe one of the new burners) for a touchdown. Oh one can dream.
I think with all the playmakers we have now, the 2 QB thing is no longer consideration.

I will say this....I've heard that Herman and Urban really didn't open up the play book last year (just look at Wiscy and tTUN games vs Nebraska and Illinois). I'm wondering if we'll see more games like Nebraska...where the offense is so fast and diversified that most teams won't be able to keep up with all the formations...even like the ones stated above by The Dude/Squirrel Master. We'll see but this year should turn out to be very exciting as far as offense is concerned. I'm just hoping the defense is better and it should be...if so...then I'll be elated;-)

I'll be really surprised if JT is on the field next year.
What about using CJ?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I don't think JT will be healthy enough. I thought medical redshirt was in his plans?
Nope. He is already enrolled into school and is doing his recovery with the team doctors. It has already been said he is working with Marotti and doing everything but running. It will probably be at least til this summer but I hear that he will be ready come time for the season.
I think it is very possible JT could see the field. There is some big talk going around about JT's work ethic, his leadership (the comment by Herman about him speaking in front of the recruits) and he is already very accomplished with the zone read offense. If anything, he might be better suited to fill in for Braxton than even Guiton, although Guiton is pretty good and definitely is the backup to Brax. I just think JT could get some PT during the non conference slate. Knowing Urban, he could use JT just once or twice so teams will have to be prepared for it.
Cardale even. However you want to try it, just would be fun if they did just to make teams think they can. If Cardale is ready, Urban will put him in a game to see what he can do. He definitely is a big guy at 6'5''. Would be awesome if he could throw too. IDK how good he is.
see and that is why I see JT possibly being on the field, possibly. He is the closest to the same style as Braxton. Guiton isn't as close to be dynamic as a runner and Cardale Jones probably runs differently and again his passing is unknown in college competition.
besides, its a fun play to think about. Not saying it will work or that Urban should do it. I just think it could be very wild having 3 guys on the field who are very capable passers.
Mos Def on the Cardale talk. I think that the kid has the potential to be a real player for us. His release isn't as quick as Braxton's, but he came out of high school as a more polished passer by a long shot, and then took a year at the acadamy or institute, post doctorate school or whatever the hell it is, and then took a redshirt year last year. I know people will dog him for his "playing school" comment, but I have yet to hear about any academic problems from him. He is a really talented kid. I like him a ton and I think that Meyer will find a way for him to get some garbage time snaps.
I'd like to see Kenny G. coverted to starting Punter. Think about it --- the Defenses would really have to waste practice time gameplanning for our threat at the punter position. He'd be a threat to take off every time. I would tell Kenny - "if you see a lane --- take off". I bet he'd convert 3rd & 8 or less 77% of the time.
well that is the hope with moving Frank Epitropoulus to punter. He is quite the athlete and could give Urban more options on those fakes.
Kind of makes you think about how the punter is at LSU with the way he runs fakes and then how Urban tried a fake with Ben last year that failed miserably!
What if we got eleven quarterbacks on the field at the same time. The opposing MLB's head would explode!
sarcastic but fitting! Although some of those QBs will need to be the size of Jamarcus Russell.
With the speed of Braxton and JT, size of Cardale Jones and throwing of Guiton, it could be possible to have all 4 out on the field at once. I can see Guiton at QB, Braxton as the tailback with JT and Jones split out wide. and with Jalin being a HS QB, he could be in the slot. I know Darren Lee played some QB as well but this is my play, so he doesn't qualify!
If you need inspiration look to the single wing. Two guys in the backfield with each the possability of receiving the snap. Imagine a zone read that the "RB" takes the handoff to the edge and then throws it to a wr that was not respected as a deep threat.
a lot like the play that Braxton runs the option and then stops to do a toss over the top to a streaking Devin Smith!
but now think about that play and Braxton doesn't have to do it each time. Basically, anything that can help this offense stay in sync but gives Braxton a break from getting killed everytime he keeps the ball.
My goal so to speak is to think of ways that will limit the hits Braxton takes and if that means having a few plays run with Guiton or the guy closest to the style of Brax, JT.
Whats that say about our depth when we can have an offense composed mostly of quarterbacks and still probably be decent?!?!
All I know is that last year at this time, team speed as definitely a problem.
Now, there might be enough team speed at the QB position alone! lol
(including Jalin Marshall of course)
This offense will look like nothing we have seen in Columbus so far. I cannot think of an TOSU team that had a kid like Marshal and Wilson in the same class... It will suck to be a D coordinator game planning for this game. Oh, yeah, we also have a bruising back that can get 3-5 yrds every time he touches the ball. Cannot wait for spring ball!
With that formation we would have three qbs on the field if you think about it
If we see it this year it probably means Braxton hasn't made the big jump he needed to make as a passer. This is the biggest key to our whole season. We won't go undefeated again in the B1G if Braxton hasn't made huge strides in passing, reading the D and going thru his progressions.
Many QB's never get better at this part. Pryor never really got better at going thru his progressions etc and the losers up north kept thinking D-Nard would have to get better at this part of his game as well, and it never happened.
I think Braxton came in to college ahead of both those guys but got so screwed with the coaching situation and offensive plan during his 1st year at OSU that he pretty much had to start over last year. This should be his big jump year for his passing game, if it's gonna happen.
