Auburn's Trees are coming down

The famed Toomer's Corner Oaks are coming down and I'm not sure how to feel about it. I'd be outraged if the Buckeye trees we plant for our All-Americans were purposely poisoned BUT I went from kinda liking or at least being indifferent to Auburn to despising them after the Cam scam, so I've convinced myself that those trees dying is payback for buying an athlete and a National Championship.

The dumbass that poisoned those trees would've never been caught or at least not proven guilty if he didn't brag/confess on a radio station, which makes me wonder what pranks are out of bounds these days in the average fans minds?

Back in the day you would hear of mascots (mainly real animals being kidnapped) and other things that seemed like good natured fun, but were, or are now potential felonies.

Would the average OSU or Mich fan poison a special tree or hack into the computer system that runs the stadium scoreboard of the opposing team and make some mild or not so mild comments about the other team/fans IF they knew they could keep from getting caught if they kept it very quiet?

I personally wouldn't and wouldn't have stolen the other teams dog etc back in the day, but I do think some of those pranks back then were funny...getting the other teams fans to hold up poster boards spelling out "we suck" is one of the only funny things I've seen like that in recent time. I'd like to see more. (but no catfishing).

Those trees are a huge part of college football, yes they still did the whole cam scam thing but still it's terrible.  Besides, I don't have really have anything against Auburn.

Putting a message on a screen is one thing. Destroying historic landmarks is another. Certainly have some fun with the other team. Perfect example is that 2004 game when Yale fans placed signs in the Harvard section that spelled "we suck" and then orchestrated them being held up during the game. That's great.
It's gross and way over the line to poison 100+ year old trees. You've gone toomfar and probably have issues if you're destroying landmarks and/or harming people.

I agree completely...just wondering where most would draw the line...I bet some think your picture/Chief B1G Dump is insensitive...and that's not a shot at you, I'm not native American but many who are think the Redskins and Indians name/mascot is the ultimate in insensitivity against a race/person...is that a bigger deal than harming a tree?

Why would anyone be offended by a picture of my grandfather Chief Joseph?

I assume you're joking but if not, I think he, for one, may be offended with his picture being used and associated with the name Chief B1G Dump. (just an assumption) maybe he would love it and think it's super cool? He just looks a little more series and proud in the pic. Who knows? Maybe he posed for this pic with all the garb up top but below the waste he may just be "wearing" a single sock?

I would never advocate an OSU fan to ever destroy property at another school, even TTUN and even if TTUN destroyed something on OSU campus. That type of thing is about as juvenile as you can get. You never see Yankee fans breaking into Fenway and desecreating the Green Monster. You just don't do that kind of crap.

Fell bad for Auburn fans its a shame some crazed loon did that. I am of the opinion that traditions, even of rivals, should be respected. But the trees can be replanted and will if anything only add to the Auburn/Alabama rivalry.

All that said best thing to come out of this whole situation - "I gotta say one thing Paul before I get off the air, probably going to make some people mad but I gotta do it Paul: ROLL DAMN TIDE."

Come on D.Anthony, I've read some of your stuff before but you can't tell me you think this is pay back for Cam Newton and his actions. There is a thin line between taking things to far.

Example #1

Example 1

Michigan flag hagging at Notre Dame. Not going to far just rip down and set it on fire if you desire. A Harmless prank.

Example #2

Michigan fans protect the M. (Can't find the one that got painted over). I believe it was spray painted by MSU and now they protect it.

Example #3

Defaming the Spartan Statue at MSU is playing with the boarder line and going to far. Its reversible and can be removed with water.

Example #4

Destroying a part of history. Now that is taking it too far!

Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012

Sad for all of college football. Would have loved to experience the celebration at Toomer's Oaks after a big win.

I don't care about Cam Newton and whatever they did or didn't do, this is really an unfortunate situation that kind of makes me sick.  I don't care about the feelings of Auburn fans about the trees or what they meant to the program, they were trees that were over 100 years old.  Think about that for a minute.  They survived a campus and city growing around them, countless bouts of bad weather, and lord only knows what else.  They could of been around decades more if not for some half-witt wanting to show Auburn who is boss.

I don't think the guy deserves years in jail, but I think he deserves to get his ass beat within inches of his life.  Those 2 trees brought more to this planet than his dumb ass ever did, and 2nd, we need to remove this idiot from the gene pool, though sadly he has already reproduced.

Sounds harsh I know, but I just for the life of me can't figure out what enters someone's mind to say, here's a great idea......Then call a freakin radio show proud that you did it!

What that moron did to Auburn, as much as I dont like what happened under Chizek, would be like someone filling mirror lake full of sewage the day before the annual Jump.

As for what is acceptable this little stunt is perfectly OK.

Michigan coach Lloyd Carr lashed out at Ohio State for subjecting his players and coaches to a "disrespectful" security check before Saturday's game at Ohio Stadium.

"I don't know if they were looking for drugs," Carr said Monday during his weekly news conference. "I don't think I'm a terrorist."

Michigan was held up about 10 minutes while officers and police dogs did a search of players' bags before the Wolverines went on to lose 37-21.
