The little I have seen of Armani Reeves, he looks the part. Seems to be fast and physical. He was a highly rated recruit and injuries help him back. Not a lot of talk about him, but I'm hopeful that he is the real deal. Anyone on the staff or anyone else out there know how this kid has looked in practice and how the staff sees him? Thanks for any updates.

Patience young Buck. Spring practice starts in a little less than 2 weeks now. We will know more at that time. We lose most of our defensive backfield after this year, so he'll get a shot, no doubt about that.
His name reminds me of the legend Armanti Edwards, so I certainly hope I can relive the memories of that glorious game every time his name is called.
I always think the same thing! I went to Appalachian State during their three-peat. After the scUM defeat, we left the bars, stormed the stadium in Boone, tore down the goalpost and threw it in the chancellor's front yard. It was extra sweet for me. Kind of ridiculous looking back on it. Armanti Edwards, I believe, is the only two-time national player of the year in the history of Bowl Subdivion. Either way, can't wait to cheer for Armani and have those memories brought back every time! Go Bucks!
NC Buckeye.
I'm not very patient, and I have been over Howard Island for 2 years now. Doran Grant looks promising, and we're bringing in studs. I like Murray too out of Steubenville (about 40 minutes north of where I grew up). Tough kid ... hits like a freight train.
he did some kickoff returns, I think

if he's related to the late great Christopher Reeves...we may just have our own version of Superman back there in the secondary. That'd be cool! Probably illegal in some manner, but a pretty good advantage on our side.
+1 for Superman, -1 for adding an "s" to "Christopher Reeve"
Oh snap. Good catch. That's right, it's Christopher Reeve without the 's'.
Well, maybe he can be related to Bryant "Big Country" Reeves.
That would be great. And, maybe Armani would have a late growth spurt --- nobody would beat him on a jump ball/corner fade redzone route.
He is only a sophmore entering this season, its not like he is getting overlooked, he was just buried in the depth chart. Not that our secondary depth was that fantastic last year, he was still too young to contribute much of anything.
Everyone seems so pumped about our class this year, and the prospects for next year, that they have forgotten about all the stud guys Meyer closed on last year.
It's true, we always do that to no matter what the situation is. There are a few really good guys we got the past two recruiting cycles that we will start to see this spring. We should expect that, aside from the LBers for talent reasons and DL because we rotate a lot, that the guys we got won't see much of any playing time.
I really think this year will be Roby on one side, and a battle of Grant, Reeves and Murray on the other side. Although I can also see Eli Apple throwing his name into the mix. I think it will be a learning year for Cam Burrows and I think Conley will be very handy on Special teams until he finds where he belongs, CB or WR.
I don't think it is wrong to have high expectations for the income class but the reality is that there are some talented players already on the team in the secondary. I think it will be much more likely that we see a freshman start at linebacker than the secondary.
Plus, Reeves was doing just fine last year. I think he might have been the guy to step in for Roby last year when he got hurt, but then Reeves was banged up and I believe they moved Grant from behind Howard over to Roby's spot. so basically he has proven he belongs on the field, just needs his break.
The depth at DB is mind boggling. I thought Murray and Reeves were the starters for sure. Now they seem to get lost in the shuffle on the discussions with the new studs coming in. I really think whoever starts will be able to press the receivers more and we'll get to see the kind of defenses without the soft zone coverage. Sooo excited! Just the speed around the back field will be huge!!
See that's the problem with most people that follow recruiting to romantically..they always praise the new prospects coming in and expect them to be starters or future stars quickly and they forget about the guys that came in the year before who was just as heralded as the new guys.
As far as those guys you mentioned starting only one could start because Roby has one spot locked down.

We all know Vonn Bell will be in the 2 deep... I'd say the 2 safety spots will be held by returning seniors. That leaves 1 CB spot and the star position. I think I read Reeves could end up playing the star. Either way I hope these kids step up. Our offense will be explosive. I just hope these young kids can step in and play to a very high level on defense.
You're right. He will be a nickel/star guy this year.
Reeves and Murray will be OK. They both got hurt last year and I can see them both contributing this year if they are back to 100% due to this above by Buckeye in SEC. No one will be lost in the shuffle...if you're good enough, then you'll play. It's a pretty simple coaching move really...play the best and expect the best performance from them. If they can't do it...next man up please...

The STAR will be filled by Chris "not pittsburgh" Brown. So really only Howard's spot is open for competition.
I resemble that remark! lol..
I didn't mean this year, I meant down the road... I know Roby is back and Doran Grant seemed to make some great strides when he was in last year.
Doran Grant will start opposite of Roby in my opinion. Last year Coombs basically said he has 3 starting CBs: Roby, Howard, and Grant. I don't anticipate Grant to get jumped by anyone, but who knows.
This is all a very good problem to have!! Competition breeds champions, and who ever doesn't make the 2 deep,I'm sure Coach Coombs will welcome with open arms on special teams.A win,win for us!!
SCOTTC.
Agree.
And special teamers will come from the 2-deep as well. With the logjam at LB and DB, our special team coverage teams should be particularly hungry
Anytime he was mentioned during the season, Urban had nothing but good things to say about him.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Reeves will be battling Murray Apple and Burrows for the 2 deep at corner. With us being in a 4-2-5 so much I would expect to see some of these guys a lot next year
Hope he gets a shot. Highly touted and has bought into being a Buckeye.
I believe I was injured towards the end of last year. I think it was a hamstring issue. There is no doubt that we will have tremendous depth in the secondary.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
What's up Armani?
I look forward to see him returning kicks or punts next year...extremely fast kid.

You have got to think Dontre Wilson will be splitting that spot with Philly Brown, I am pretty sure he has mentioned that as a way that he can come in and contribute right away.
Corey Smith, too.
James Clark?
Looks like Reeves is making the grade. Love it.
Roby didn't participate in the scrimmage in practice today, and Reeves played his spot with Doran Grant on the other side
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
