This. And I'm not sure why this article makes you think you misjudged his parents? They just seem like parents that were concerned about their son throughout the recruiting process, not manipulative or controlling or trying to sway him one way or the other
Ah gotcha, I thought this article made you like his family less. I thought the consensus on his dad leading up to signing day was pretty positive considering he brought the Kerry Combs pump up video to our computers. Didn't realize you thought poorly of him before
It wasn't I thought poorly of him, I thought the family was drawing this out to enjoy the spotlight when it seems there was some real concern EzE made a quick decision.
While this has become a downvote party, it cannot possibly be understated that it is unacceptable to cut and paste a story from a news source without - at the very least - a link included.
The best way to share this kind of info is essentially what the staff does with Buckshots: excerpts of a news story or blog post are highlighted as such, identified as to where they came from, at least via a link, and presented with relevant commentary.
For folks that didn't know that already, lesson learned, no harm no foul. If you're downvoting because you disagree that this is the right way to attribute other writers' work, there is something seriously wrong with your understanding of basic concepts like intellectual property, plagarism, etc.
(And I am not suggesting the OP was doing anything of the sort - but it is inappropriate to cut and paste stories in this fashion, as is clearly spelled out in the 11w comment policy as linked above.)
1. I have no clue what down voting is....guess I will have to read up on that.
2. Sorry about the entire article. Had some issue with the hyper link showing up. It has been corrected.
3. I have a degree in Journalism from Ohio State so I do understand the concept of intellectual property. This was not done with any intent to "plagerize" or anything else. I know you didn't suggest that, but I wanted to set the record straight before I get labeled or disciplined.
Yep...I am such a horrible speller....especially on message boards. I did find it clever that you used the British spelling of the word...kudos to you.
To respond to you about what down voting is: 11W has a system where you can accrue helmet stickers every time you comment or make a forum or blog post. Other users that have earned enough of these stickers (which can be tracked on your account page) have the ability to either Upvote or Downvote your blog post, forum topic, or comment which in turn provides you with more or less stickers, respectively. You can see where you stack up in relation to everyone else if you are in the top 100 posters by checking out the Helmet Stickers Leaderboard.
The ability to vote on comments and posts used to be granted at 50 helmet stickers, but was increased a few weeks ago. I am not sure what they current level of stickers required to vote is but you can tell if you are there by whether or not you see two arrows (triangles really) next to someone's user name on their comments or if you can see a +/- in the upper right corner of a forum/blog post.
What's the point? They keep brand new users from trolling the site with downvotes. Iif you go below -50 stickers you will no longer be able to post on the site (troll prevention). It encourages people to post relevant, informative, or funny content by providing a reward system. Even though they are imaginary internet points similar to Karma on Reddit, it can be fun to use them to see which comments you make that other people like.
Hope this helps!

Thanks. I appreciate the information. I have visited this site as a lurker for about a year. Find it is a source of good information with posters that seem to be respectful. Decided a few weeks ago to become active. Still learning all the in's and out's of how things are done.
No worries, and thanks for taking the indirect criticism in stride - hated to sound like I was "calling you out," which wasn't actually my intent, but to remind all of us not to play too loose with attribution. (Good to have a fellow journo on the board, though my sheepskin was in ag journalism.)
I feel I may need to clarify this post. When I made it, the topic was a copy/paste of an entire article from the Dispatch. The topic author has since realized his mistake, and changed it to a link to the article. The original post is what I was commenting on, not the post as it currently stands.

I would imagine if we got more of a backstory on virtually any recruit we would realize how tough their process is. So often if someone stretches out their recruiting they get called a diva or likes to play the recruiting game (even Mike Mitchell was called a diva on this site at one point). Well there are likely other factors at play that we don't see. And that is why the Buckshot from this morning is so important to remember. These are kids making the biggest decision of their lives, it shouldn't be easy and it really shouldn't be surprising when they change their minds.
I like what the story had to say about UFM's disdain for the "average." Notwithstanding the athletic ability of this kid--obviously miles above "average"--it seems like EZE is also an above "average" person. I'm not sure if UFM has always recruited for character, but when you read the backstory on guys like Mitchell and Apple it seems like there are lots of reasons to celebrate this class, aside from its obvious wealth of talent.
Thanks for making my great state proud. Now get back to work!

Interesting that the suspicion on the family's side started with the recruitment of Green, according to the article. They didn't really understand how the process works. Dontre Wilson's recruitment isn't mentioned but it might've just rekindled some of the Green concerns for them.
That is what stood out to me as well. I think they had to be assured that Wilson wasn't going to be brought in as another RB and once they were it made it an easy decision to stay a Buckeye.
It doesn't change my opinion of them beacuse we've long heard that he comes from a solid family. This wasn't a Davonte Neal or Seantrel Henderson Daddy issue. He has had and will continue to have a great support system in his family, who helped guide him and provide him the resources for their son to what was best for him.
I never once thought differently, and sad that you had negative feelings towards them.

The only thing that seems odd is comparing recruiting to engagement. OSU is bringing in 25 (or 24 this year) players, not just one. And spoiler alert, there will be multiple guys who can play a position. It's called depth and competition. But, it seems this was their first time going through the "new" era of recruiting as opposed to Mr. Elliott's experience in the '80's. I'm sure things were said or assured and then like he said rumors or rumblings to the contrary came out. Kind of interesting that apparently a reporter broke the story.
BTW, I think he pasted the whole article because of the Dispatch's limited views on online articles. Let's not kill him for it.
The more ppl make threads like this...the more we can speculate who these idiots people were who use different handles on twitter making stupid ignorant comments. Hmmm did this make anyone else think the same thing...??? Bc it sure did me....STOP TWEETING THESE KIDS NEGATIVITY and let the coaches handle recruiting. Sit back and enjoy the results...I'm not commenting on another one of these...pretty sure my opinion is known.

There is a quote from the Dispatch article that I thought was awesome.
Reminds me of the All-Access program last year. That whole speech could be applied to anything you're doing in life. "Who wants to be average?? I don't want to coach average, I don't be around average...." That should be a mandatory video to watch before taking on every day.
This years recruiting was exciting and frustrating for sure! Alot of positive things happened, the only negative IMHO was the absence of a "MEG" this year!.............GOOD TIMES!
Post links or excerpts with your own comments, not entire articles. This is spelled out in the commenting policy under "Respect Sources".

Because I called his father a publicity hound in a thread leading up to signing day. I was wrong and that was not the case at all.

Absolutely - cutting and pasting whole stories is bad, bad form.
Not to mention it is hard to read because it pastes in a terrible format :-)

Thanks. Won't happen again.

So basically recruiting is more like 'The Bachelor' with one dude dating 20 some women at the same time than a one sided engagement.
Except that the 20 some women are also dating 100 some other dudes.
