Initial reports from Alex are not looking good for Vonn Bell... Gibson is still holding out and we've heard positive info on Corey Smith, but no gray box... If we don't land Bell or Gibson where would you like to see those schollies go? Personally, I think we should try to flip Stringfellow or Stevens. Washington isn't the program that OSU is and there are like 8 WR's already committed to A&M. What are your thoughts?

They are going after WR James Clark, for one thing. And they have some Olinemen visiting soon as well.
Assuming we do miss on Bell, Quick and Gibson (which it's seeming like we may, Gibson sounds like it's around 50/50 though), I don't mean this to sound negative, but am I the only one who doesn't really have any favorites to take any open spots left in the class? I almost wish they'd stash those few scholarships (if there's attrition and 3 or 4 open up as many believe they will) for next year.
Bell and Quick in particular I feel like are difference makers, everyone else we have our hat in on I just feel like are solid players but not transcendent players (not that championship teams aren't made up of solid players, or that they don't serve a tremendous purpose). The 2014 class is loaded, so if we miss on Bell and Quick, I'd almost rather pass on someone like a Clark or Skipper this year in order to have an extra scholarship for someone next year (if reports are correct that we'll have a smaller class next year). I also felt like we should have gone after Max Redfield while we had the chance, but it didn't seem like the staff was that interested. Same thing with Sebastian LaRue the second time around. All that said, I do trust the staff and they'll do what they know is best. Alex or the guys here at 11w can correct me if I'm incorrect in thinking that they could stash those scholarships for next year.
Get some 3 stars from Ohio who grew up die hard buckeyes and see if Meyer can mold them to over perform
I don't think you can do that with the scholarship reductions, Adambob. No sense in taking 3 guys who we hope will somehow overperform, but realistically won't have much of a chance to see the field. I say leave them for some deserving senior walk-on and give him a scholarship for a year and then use it with next year's ridiculous recruiting class where we may be more limited with scholarships because of the small class of the current juniors. I believe I read that we only have 14 seniors next year. Even with attrition, we may not be able to get the class higher than 20. Add in 2-3, then we are back to a relatively normal recruiting class.
I don't hate this, but they have to fill a need and have that Juice. Otherwise, bank the schollies.
Worst case scenario we bank 2-3 schollies for next year so we can actually get a class over 20 with the absurd amount of studs interested in us. Win win.
If we don't get Smith to flip or get Clark on board,I'd say bank the schollies. But we could also use Skipper.Only other one I'm interested in is Bell.
SCOTTC.
I'm basically bell or bust at this point. Gibson never impressed me especially after it came out that he had grade problems. These kids have two jobs play football and pull good grades, seems like he lacks focus. If bell isn't in then I say save the ships for next year unless you can pull some really good flips come signing day.
Just a life long Buckeye fan wanting to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans. Our honor defend, we will fight to the end for OOO HIIII OOOOOO!
Where did Alex say that things weren't looking good for Bell? I've read nothing but positive comments
over on the von bell visit thread.
These were Alex's comments:
Update here from my sources----the visit is going FANTASTIC....if Osu doesn't get Bell they can look at themselves in the mirror and say they did everything in their power to land him....coaches, players, fellow recruits, fellow recruits' parents; everyone is on this
The OSU staff is certainly winning over the family....mom loves Coach Withers...more when we hear it
Ok guys I gathered some info and based on the latest my final GUESS is that Bell does not end up a Buckeye. If his parents have a greater influence than I think there's still a shot but I don't know if that's going to happen. Ill share the story at a later time but priorities for Vonn may not have been in order IMO.
--And a couple others about having a bad feeling about his priorites etc.
However, ESPN did just come out w/ an article a couple hrs ago about the visit and some quotes form that:
“They were all in the car coming back and dad’s quote was, ‘We had a great visit. We had all of our questions answered. We saw everything we needed to see and had a wonderful time.’”
“Vonn told Coach Meyer today -- I don’t know if he asked him directly about what he liked the best -- but his answer was he liked Coach Meyer and what they’ve got going on because it reminded him so much about us at Ridgeland,” Mariakas said (His HS football coach). “The personalities he and I have are so similar. He liked that relationship and environment. "

From what Doran Grant said, Corey Smith is a lock to be a Buckeye
Damn, I thought this was a thread for Guns N Roses lyrics.
+1 Upvote for G & R references...
Once saw Tracy Guns at a bar here in Chillicothe with David Allen Coe...Drunkest I've ever been in my life. Dudes can still put them away
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Just read the full article over on ESPN about Clark. He says OSU "came in late" and he'd THINK about a visit. Called Nebraska a 10. Doesn't sound like we're after him, really.

Then i say bank the rest for the 2014 studs
Bell's HS coach sounded like Bell very much has OSU in the running. The coach told espn he is going to decide on signing day.
His dad said the visit was Great and vonn likes a whole a lot about OSU.
he will go to Tenn. and Bama also and then decide.

I think we will know if bell is still in as soon as Meyer makes his intentions on other offers known and if he continues to press bell all the way until signing day.

I have no idea...

"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."

I really like what I've read about Clark out of Florida. He sounds like a diamond in the rough. His scouting report reads better than gibson's to me and if his gpa really is as good as people have said I would love to see him commit. It may be too late but you never know with UFM.

Would like to have Bell in the class but it is not th end of the world if he isn't. This is a GREAT class as is and it looks like we still have a few more to add.
I sat very close to Gibson at the basketball game today and he looked like he was having a blast. He was singing every "we don't give a damn" song, always participating in buckeye bounce, and was going nuts the whole game. As I stated in a previous thread, a friend of mine close to the Gibson family said Shelton loves OSU, but really likes how Tavon Austin was used at WVU and he can probably start from day 1 there. Mom thinks OSU wins him over, though.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Is Dontre Wilson still showing interest? Thought I read somewhere he still was thinking about visiting even with Kelly coming back. Would love to get this kid!!
No I believe he said he was solid to Oregon even without Kelly.
He's said both. I'm not sure what the current stance is.
I got an email from Bucknuts today saying that Wilson is still taking a good, hard look at OSU and is even trying to figure out a date to visit. He said he is open to see what Ohio State has to offer and, outside of his current commitment to Oregon, is only looking at Ohio State as a potential destination.
The long and short of it is that there really isn't any new, solid information. He may take the visit; he may not. We'll see, but he's at least saying the right things to keep people interested.
Just saw on the tweeter that Urban and Tom Herman are going to visit Dontre Wilson. Dontre must still be showing interest if Urbz is going after him.
Do we not like the prospects who are left, or do we just not have any idea about all of these kids??? Today, we learned about the potential for a new prospect and since people see some video of the kid realize he's really good.
Just because Bell and Gibson don't join the Buckeyes, don't mean there aren't still some really good prospects out there to get. If the staff offers a couple of other kids because they want them then so be it, if t hey want to bank the schollies that's great too. I just don't think anyone commenting on this site has the information at their fingertips to say what the staff should or shouldn't do if Gibson and Bell don't commit.
