Hey fellow 11wers, just spoke to Jalin's brother in law who I work with in Dayton, got lots of good info from him on how our favorite incoming freshman play maker is doing. Says Jalin intends to sit back and enjoy the rest of his senior year in high school. Basketball ended well for him even though he was at the UA game during the teams last tournament of the year.
The shoulder is doing fine, says it's not really hindering him from getting in workouts, but he is taking it slow to make sure it heals up right. Jalin has been working out with Braxton Miller to try and get that cohesiveness before the season starts. Turns out Marshall has a brother that lives in Columbus so he goes up there and stays and works out with BM5 independently when they have the chance.
Guys, the kid is insanely humble, and a player we should all be glad is in Columbus. I mentioned to his brother in-law "Jalin really could play in the NFL if he wanted too." And he told me Jalin isn't even worried about any of that. He said he wants to get a degree from Ohio State and let the rest work itself out. He went on to say that Jalin wants to try to break every major receiving record at Ohio State and he thinks he will be able too. The confidence and humility are both traits we need in our guys in Columbus.
That's all I have at the moment, hopefully the news on the injury helps put some of your minds at ease, because it indeed looks like he is doing just fine. Basketball season is over, and he is getting his mind and body right for his freshman year in Columbus.

Look out...HOT STUFF!! Love Jalin and he will be a great receiver here. The attitude means a lot. Good to hear Braxton is getting to throw to him already. Thanks for the update.
I feel like you have a secret hater out there.
Ha Ha. Yeah I'm sure I do. I do not tend to give any ground when it comes to talking anti-scUM. There are a seemingly endless stream of their fans here now. Seeing as to how this IS AN OHIO STATE BLOG and pro-OSU sentiment should usually be the flavor of every day it shouldn't be a problem, but such is life. If that is all I have to worry about, it's a great day.
Gladly upvote to offside the hater.
Karma is fun
Basketball season is over already? Here in TN we don't finish until March... Anyway... Good to know he is healing well. I really wish he would've been able to enroll early and go through fall workouts with Coach Mick.
His BBall team actually had a tournament the same weekend as the UA game. That was the end of the season for them.

That seems a little weird.. was it his AAU team or something? Or is the bball season in OH only 1 month? Here in IA State basketball is always over Spring Break in March and the season starts in Nov.
They wouldn't typically play AAU during basketball season. In Ohio the OHSAA bball season goes through February and into march with the state bball tourney. Could've been a holiday tournament, I suppose. Those typically take place at the midpoint of the season though. Maybe Jalin's just focusing on getting ready for football at OSU.
Does he play CYO, or what? High school basketball is just hitting its stride now...
I just looked on their high school site. He's definitely on the roster and they have games scheduled until Feb. 15. Unless his injury is keeping him from playing, his team's season is definitely not over.

My bad, should have clarified, the shoulder injury has finished HIS season.

No worries, was just a little confusing.
Upvote though for the solid information. It's always good to get some detailed info about the mental approach of these young guys. That's the most overlooked aspect of recruiting - not the physical traits or ability to learn the playbook, but instead the mental fortitude to grind out practice after practice and take care of the details so many don't consider when making the leap.

Excellent....
I like football
Do you guys think we'll use Jalin in the Wildcat since he was an effective QB in high school? Just another wrinkle that would most likely be very effective with the weapons we have in place.
I honestly don't see it, especially with the emergence of his ability to catch. To be honest he's not a super accomplished and polished QB, but then again who knows? I say Braxton's senior year all the limitations on the offense come off, have some plays where Braxton lines up at wide out, Barrett is at QB, and Marshall is in the slot. Why not make it crazy?

I think it would be confusing to a defense that knows anything at all facing Jalin in the Wildcat. I mean, you'd think he is an automatic run threat.....but will he throw it? Who knows?
I agree but with Kenny G not Barrett
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
Not being a dick, but with BM5 we line up in the "wildcat" every play... I dont see where puting Jalin at QB would give us any more of an advantage than lining up with Brax... IMO
Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
Lining up with Jalin in a wildcat formation could limit the amount of hits that Braxton takes next year. Keeping him healthy will be key to going undefeated, even if Kenny G is more than a serviceable backup.
I would prefer Barrett at QB if Brax and Kenny are not. I just don't see it either.
Now I do see a half back pass from Jalin when Brax throws it out to him on that WR bubble screen. Jalin tossing it to a streaking Devin Smith.
There is no upside to putting him at QB when Brax is the QB. Brax is probably a better open field runner and undoubtedly a bigger threat to pass.
I could be wrong, but I think the Wildcat formation is normally used to compensate for a one-dimensional quarterback who is not a run threat. Unless we are trying to relieve Braxton of some hits or carries, I don't think we will see this happen.

Just the opposite. The Wildcat is just a variant of the spread that makes whoever lines up as the QB a run threat.
What teams often do is split out a non-running QB to put the ball in the hands of someone better equipped to run a zone read or some other running play. So in that sense, you are right, except that the non-running QB is no longer playing the QB position.
Thanks, Earle. I think your response was actually kind of a compliment to my post. Compensating for a non-running quarterback by putting a run threat in his place.

Seems like a real good kid. Wish him well, just hope Michigan can contain him.

yea buddy!!!
Thanks for the info, I'm just having a hard time reconciling "insanely humble" with "thinks he can break every major receiving record at OSU".
But what's the saying, "It ain't bragging if you can do it"? Let's hope he can.
The humble part is him wanting to come to OSU and get a degree and not be worried about a career in the NFL right out of the gate. The part of him breaking the receiving records is more to do with his confidence.

End his ball season? I'll have to look, but I could have sworn I read an article stating his coach only expected him to miss a few weeks
Edit: here it is, but he could just be being optimistic
You may be right? I'm just passing along what info I was given by my "source" lol. Hopefully he's able to play I'm sure he would want too.

Oh I hear ya man. Wasn't trying to discredit your info. I just didn't think is injury was that bad. Maybe I'm just hoping
Hopes and Expectations are much different.
The coach hopes to have him back soon. Doesn't mean he expects to have him back soon.
I hope to get drafted in the first round next year as a RB. But, I expect to wake up tomorrow and be a washed up DIII HS RB who can't beat anyone in a race (except for Clarrett and I have the shirt to prove it!). Luckily I both hope and expect that I'll be able to live my football dreams through Hyde being Urban's first 1000 yard RB.
This kid sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders....makes me happy for OSU's future. He'll be that Percy Harvin type that Meyer's looking for. He'll be good.

We've got a real gem here it looks like. Can't wait to see him suited up and making plays for the Scarlet and Gray.
Class of 2010.
Him and Marcus Baugh are probably the top 2 offensive recruits I'm most excited about to see the next 4 years
Nice.
Help is on the way.
Hopefully he can woo Vonn Bell and his family this weekend too! Seems like a great kid, excited to see him in action for the S&G.
So he's humble but he thinks he will break every receiving record at osu.
That's called confidence.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

Clown comment, bro
What a class act.
Jalin played his first game back from injury last night. He scored 12 points, including a dunk that gave Middletown the lead for good with 2:12 left on the clock.
