Next year I think we have 3 DBs who have their positions locked up. CJ Barnett (S), Christian Bryant (S), and Bradley Roby (CB). So who gets the second corner spot? I like Doran Grant. Who do you guys like?

I thought Grant looked good when Roby was hurt. Was surprised that he sort of disappeared once Roby recovered
He disappeared because Roby and Howard we're back and Howard was having a decent season. I think it will be Grant plus those mentioned above. He was listed as 1b on the week 1 two deep. I hope I'm wrong about whose starting becasue that means one of the freshmen is that good, not that we are in need of them.
Exactly right, and Johnson had the Star position locked down, so he wasn't going to get a shot as a the nickel guy either.
Too bad.
In my opinion, Johnson was the worst DB in recent history. Poor instincts and remarkably poor tackler.
I like D. Grant will be stud. Really happy to see Roby back, and think that the secondary will be better next year than in 2012. Essentially three returning starters and Howard was up and down at times in 2012. I expect some of the young guys, especially Apple, to see some time as well as Murray, Reeves, Bogard, and Bell (fingers crossed).
I agree with you guys but would like to add that our three starters coming back will be gone, most likely, in 2014. I'm sure the staff will find plenty of playing time for our young talent in order to build game reps. I doubt there will be any redshirting.
Would be great to see Eli or Cam walk in and take the corner spot for the next 3 years. That's a position where you can come in and play immediately if you are talented enough, a la RB and Punter, and unlike Mike and QB.
I really like Bogard in the Star position. I also thought Armani Reeves showed he was ready to step up. I am a little concerned with our depth, especially if we are spread out.
The 2012 National Champions.
If Bogard is good, I would like to see C Bryant moved back to star, so that his gambling won't hurt us as badly as it has and he is in less plays
I really like Christian Bryant as the star not because I want to hide his gambles/mistakes but because he's a beast at that position and loves to bring the wood. I think he turned in to one of our best defensive guys late in the season last year, much like shazier he has a nose for the ball and flies around
Unfortunately he is way too small to play the star. He's listed at 5'10" and 195 pounds (which means he's probably around 5'9" 188). I like Barnett (6-2 202) at star much more.
Though he has effectively played the star previously
Oh really? I didn't realize that. I guess you are right then.
I think Grant, but watch out for Apple. Eli is enrolling early and will start getting ready for next fall immediately. I won't be surprised to see him push for the starting spot. Great in man to man coverage and shows good run support.
GRANT!!
SCOTTC.
Doran Grant, Armani Reeves should get some reps during the year, Eli Apple, Burrows should see PT on special teams as well as reps during the year... I think starters to be Grant, Roby, Barnett, and Bryant with others cycling in at times
Grant without a doubt. Barnett needs to step it up too. Way too many missed tackles and guys behind him for a vet. Reeves is a guy who seems to pass the eye test as a great athlete and feel as a football player. Likely not getting much run because of the injury.
Julian Vann still on the roster? sleeper pick
I thought Doran Grant outplayed Travis Howard last year and was surprised when he didn't permanently take his starting spot from him. Unless someone steps up big time, don't expect anyone to start over Grant/Roby.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Cam Burrows could potentially be a great fit for the star position as a freshman, especially since he is enrolling early and will have time to bulk up even more.
At 6' and 203 pounds does he have the size to play the star?
I think Darron Lee becomes the future Star out of the 2013 group. I don't think he wins it as a freshman tho.
Darron Lee might be the future Star, but I think Burrows will be able to put on 15 lbs by the summer in the new lifting regimen and will have a head start. I think he eventually moves to safety, which is where he will make the largest impact, but the Star position is somewhere he could play as a freshman, and I think Urbam is going to have a tough time keeping him off the field. I have a feeling a lot of these freshman are going to make an impact very early.
I wouldn't be disappointed if Bryant got replaced. He is solid, not exceptional and he doesn't keep his emotions in check. If a young guy steps up and shows that he is Bryants equal or better I say give him a chance.
Our CB's are stronger than our Safeties in my opinion.
Absolutely going to be Doran Grant. I'm thinking Cam could end up the Star given the fact that Bogard and Murray are both out.
I don't think we will be hurting for depth since Burrows and Apple are enrolling early... I think we could have a solid 2 deep. If we get Vonn Bell he could come in and take a safety position and move Bryant to Star.
I think the opening depth chart will be Roby/Grant starting at CB, with Barnett, and maybe someone like Jamie Wood who is an upper classman starting at the S positions. I think at the beginning of the year (depending on if any of the freshman enroll early) Reeves and Griffin hold down the early backup spots, but for sure look for Apple, Conley, and Burrows to challenge early. All bets are off IMO if we get Bell, he will most likely be a primary backup at S.
Just a life long Buckeye fan wanting to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans. Our honor defend, we will fight to the end for OOO HIIII OOOOOO!
Yeah this all gets messed up if we get Bell
Gets messed up in a great way you mean
I thought Wood was no longer playing football due to shoulder injuries?
Also, what makes you think Bryant loses his starting spot? Just the fact that he struggled at times this year?
No chance Bryant loses his starting spot
starters will be grant n roby at cb. Barnett n 2nd leading tackler wood bringer turn over creator miss a tackle ocassionaly c. Bryant. Lock it n load it.
I love n hate bryant at the same time. Example vs scum stupid personal foul then he smacks denard n causes a fumble. Think he puts it all together this yr n is at an aa level

I wouldnt be opposed to moving Bryant back to the Star if we can find someone to man down the other safety spot. Still think that is his best position since he is so physical. Possibly have Bell start at safety from day 1? Or Bogard even...We have options tho
Can't wait to see if we get bell.
Buckeye_For_Life
His highlight tapes plus his performance in the UA Game speak for themselves. With the exception of Hargreaves he was the most impressive DB of the weekend. I'd love to see this kid in S&G!
