Sorry, don't really care who is on the cover of what in regards to gaming! In fact, If the NCAA cover is anything like the Madden curse, not interested at all!
They lost 3 games in 2010. Nick Saban has 13 career losses in 6 seasons at Alabama. That averages out to a little over two. In the last 5 seasons, they lost 7 games. That averages out to a little over one. In the last 4 seasons, they lost 5 games, which, again, averages to a little over one. 3 games eclipses all of those averages. If that isn't a curse of some sorts, I don't know what is.
Also, the year Ingram was on the cover, Auburn won the title. That's considered the power of Satan down there.
I know it's not that important. I just can't believe that our entire fanbase can only put up 6000 votes. It's on Facebook and it's not like there aren't any buckeye fans on there. Our fanbase obviously plays the game since we are always at the top of the leaderboard in the season challenge on those games. I'm just dissapionted that it looks like we might get another one of these.
Brand recognition is always important. Everytime a recruit sees us as a national program it helps. Most kids play these games now and therefore would see this cover over and over. It isn't THE thing that makes a recruit, but it is part of a sum that does. The more exposure the better.
OH CRAP, he just turned on the TV. Gotta tweet this... TTYL...
Trust me, I get it. I'm not into video games, so for me it's a non-issue. For some it's a bigger deal. IMO though it's dumb that they even take a fan vote for the cover anyway. They should just put the national champ on the cover each year. They're the only team that's "earned" the honor. Plus that would eliminate M*chigan ever being on the cover again:)
If I were in charge I would do the same. But I think they are really always trying to ride the hype for next year, not what happened last year. Imagine trying to judge how good each team will be based on what freshman/sophmores could potentially do, it's rough. I think most people who care about these games (I am not included) are interested in the upcoming year, not the last year. Just look at the threads when these come out, everyone checks ratings of their favorite teams, comment on their predictions, etc. No one chats about how good the team was from last year.
I think it really is their focus for promotion and excitement to get more sales. Imagine if they came out with NCAA 2012 after the 2012 season to get it all right and have the national championship team on the cover. I bet the hype for that would be super low. Instead theyy play on the anticipation of who could win and how good teams should be.
Absolutely, by far my favorite ncaa game, it had the heisman mod were you room got nicer every year lol the thing i remember most is train in vain by he clash playing once the game loaded
So, whatever. Facebook is a terrible way to gauge this. Ohio State probably is the largest and most rabid fanbase, and it's probably not even remotely close. Stewart Mandel at Sports Illustrated ran his own survey last summer to see who reads his mailbag, and he had this to say after the results were tallied: "If you've ever felt like Ohio State fans are everywhere, they are. If you've ever doubted Notre Dame's continued popularity, you're wrong. The most populous fan bases among these Mailbag readers were: 1) Ohio State (by a considerable margin) 2) Notre Dame 3) Michigan 4) Texas 5) USC 6) Alabama...."
Well, since the game itself hasn't really gotten any better in the last 5 years, this will make it easier not to purchase if ttun is on the front cover. It'll save me 60 dollars.
It's not that we don't want to be on the cover, but the Peyton Hillis incident may have traumatized too many Buckeye fans into thinking there's a real curse with being on the cover. I'd rather win a Nati than have the Buckeyes on NCAA 14. Besides, there are much more important things than voting on facebook.
P.S., anyone see all the people wanting Johnny Football on the cover even though he's ineligible? Hilarious.
Most of them are too busy tweeting recruits and their families to vote.
Frankly, it is hard to take my telescoping amera off my eye to go to facebook... What if he eats a bagel or something, how would I know?

Mark Ingram was on the cover after they won the national tittle in 09 so the exact opposite could be argued.

No offense, but it's a video game cover. It means nothing.

I always thought it would be the National Champ, guess not.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I hate the traitor Desmond like any red blooded American should but NCAA 06 was the best one they've ever made. Probably the best soundtrack as well.

Agreed. It's amazing how the game has regressed on a newer console.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
I completly agree the soundtrack was awesome. They stopped having soundtracks after that one. Now its just school bands.
What's a Facebook? But seriously, I would vote, but I do not have facebook for personal and professional reasons.
Strange. I have a Facebook for both personal and professional reasons.
Lol, I get it, just not my cup of tea.
The Ohio State Buckeyes Facebook page has 1.3 million likes. Michigan Football has 1 million likes, and claims they are the largest college football facebook page...but they did run a pretty massive campaign to achieve this arbitrary mark. Alabama football has 400,000 (their athletics page has around 740,000).

Great post and link. But couldn't his stats simply suggest that more Buckeyes can read as compared to other fan bases?

just wait until black friday and Gamestop, Best Buy and others will have the latest EA Sports games for $30-$40.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
