See it getting attention everywhere , but here. If is I apologize in advance.
Coach Smiths tweets which were clearly directed at James Quick. In fact it made me change my mind, thinking Quick had in fact contacted staff and told them he was committing. I thought he had too of, there is no way Zach Smith is that unprofessional.
He did it with Diggs and now with Quick. This may get me down botes , but i have always felt he was this staffs Nick Sicliano sp?.
What are your thoughts? If you havent seen tweets , they basically asked "Quick" name the past all american WR from OSU and " we arent one of the schools with none. Then he tweeted "swish".
I understand being upset but this is extremely unprofessional.

Sorry keypad is small
Herman was doing it as well, to be clear. But I agree, for the most part; however, I wouldn't compare him to Sicilliano.
Can the 11W staff contact some sources and find out what happened?
Did Quick call to commit and change his mind? I don't think the staff would be unprofessional...
Didn't Derek tweet that he changed his mind last night?
If that's the case, perhaps Quick did call the coaches to commit, they sent the tweets and then when they realized he hadn't really committed, took them down.
Quick said he changed his mind on Wed after UL game
I get two down votes? Wow
yeah, well while we have been on here posting and posting about where recruits are going, these guys are acutally out on the trail recruiting these guys to come to ohio state....and now we are calling them out the first mistake they make....everyone loves the 21 recruits we have now dont you? that probably has to do with some of the work that these coaches have put in...chill, these coaches have relationships with the kids like Quick and others...none of us on here do...
What???????
Nothing todo about what we have and dont have. Its about actions of professionals. He did it with Stefon diggs as well
I actually stated to @ jbook37 that he had to have committed no way the coaches would do this.
Siciliano had no idea what he was doing, met the guy, was out at practice back in 2009 once and noticed the QBs werent really working on anything. Sic was esentially kissing TP's butt and trying to joke around with him instead of coaching...Smith is a heck of a WR coach and I think this may be reading a little too much into the tweets/may be a little bitterness/being bothered by the fact we didnt get Quick with all the hype saying we would...crap happens, dont have any problem with our coaches having a sense of humor and having a bit of fun, just dont break NCAA rules

Having a bit of fun, in a bitter and immature manner, at the expense of a 17 year old bcause of his college choice should NEVER happen. The fact that it was by coaches does not make it ok, it makes it worse. These are the guys that are supposed to know better, to be teaching and leading by example. If this is all true, some example they have set, and some image they have given THE Ohio State University...

Your avatar pic is perfectly fitting for the posts I've seen you making.

What has smith done as a wr coach? Where and when?
First off...it's Earle's son in law. I don't think he's going any where over silly tweets about a recruit who they thought was in the bag (it was meant to be viewed as sarcastic towards him being "quick"). Second off....did you happen to notice the WR's offensive #s this year 4Real???? I'm not sure what you think about those whopping 14 catches by Stoney (who was pathetic this year IMHO) was the leader in receiving in '11. Then turn to this season where Philly had 50+ catches and Smith had 40+ catches. Hmmmm...need I pull a 3rd or 4th point out for you about Smith's coaching compared to the lack of other aspects of coaching from Siciliano. He sucked...bottom line. This staff is BRASS my friend...TOP SHELF in other words. Bank that...

He's Earle Bruce's grandson.
Nice catch...if I could edit it I would...instead...drunk up vote for you sir;-)

The artist formerly known as "OSUFORLIFE" ? Is that you? Welcome back!
Quick looked pretty good out there today. But, man alive - that Stefon Diggs is great. I saw some of his highlights this year and I was impressed. The craziest part is Diggs didn't even have a real QB half the time...it was like some 4th string QB, but Diggs was still making plays. That guy won't be on it next year because he'll be only a Sophomore - but I think he's 1st Team All American-worthy.
I have been reading this blog for two years and finally will say something. Relax guys, dude was from Louisville, it's his hometown and the team has potential. Nuff said, the tweeting last night is irrelevant now that he is going to L'ville. If something like a tweet is going to sway his decision then he would not be able to handle being under the spotlight for four years in place like Columbus.
I assume the coaching staff has already moved on like we need to do. Good luck to the kid is all I got to say.
Total point missed. A coach is totally immature and unprofessional to criticize a kid on twitter.
I love OSU as much as any of you, but if you cant see this than we are a very arrogant fan base.
ZAc Smith is about as much responsible for the increase in catches for our recievers this year as Burt Reynolds. Scheme and maturity had nothing to do with it.
If his intentions were to rub it in a kids face, i have lost respect for him period. He did it to diggs as well. Why would any fan base think this is ok is beyond me.
I love OSU go bucks. Thanks for the downvotes for my opinion.
How did he criticize quick? I agree that a coach criticizing a recruit on twitter would be unprofessional. I think the reason no one is as upset as you are is because we don't see coach smith's tweet as critical in any way. I saw it as an 11th hour, last ditch attempt to get a kid to commit. Look at how many nfl wrs came from tOsu... you could be the next... come here. Nothing negative at all in what I read.
There was nothing positive about that tweet. It's purpose was to shit on Louisville, which it sort of does. The problem is it comes across as petty, as it puts down an institution Quick obviously has a lot of admiration for. The fact that he did it to Diggs too only provides further evidence that the tweet was not in good fun, but that the coach has a history of butt hurt tweets to prospects. If Quick likes Louisville, telling him they suck won't be effective, it comes across the wrong way.
"It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways." - Buddha
We're just reading the tweets differently. The purpose, as I read them, was to tell a kid that tOsu is the best place to be if he wants to win championships and go on to the NFL. If saying that is shitting on louisville, then it's also shitting on 118 other schools. I guess in the future the coaches should all be nice guys, stop shitting on other schools, and never recruit anyone worth playing.
Saying OSU is a better place to win championships? Cool. Pointing out that Louisville has never had an All-American receiver, by tweet, after the kid announces to UL? Douchey...
"It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways." - Buddha
I can agree that tweeting about UL after he announced is probably douchey or sour grapes or whatever. But all the tweets we're talking about came before quick's announcement. That's why I thought it was just a recruitng tactic. No worries though. As others have said, moving on.
Completly agree. That's exactly what I thought it was.
"Did you push yourself to be great today? If you didn't do it you lost a day. We ain't got many days to lose. We're going to push your a$$ like its never been pushed because what you've got in you were going to find out" UFM
I think they were trying to remind him that we put more players into the leauge than anyone. Is it sour grapes....maybe, but as a recruiter; you have to utilize all means to communicate your message. I did not find the tweet as disrespectful, but a gentle reminder that the kid may be making a rash decision. Anyways, 20 years ago would we be having this conversation....no. The internet is the social downfall with college atheltics, anything that someone says can be misconstrued, the tone of conversation can be lost, so we really don't know what happened or the result of the tweet. We are speculating
Honestly, the way I saw those tweets were that they were an attempt at recruiting. I saw nothing negative in any way. Also don't know if it was immature as I don't recruit kids to go to college. To me, it seemed like he was saying OSU is your best shot at being a star in college & the best school to come to. You got no downvotes from me my friend, and you are always entitled to your viewpoint, but I just don't see it the same way.
Edit: OSU Chris - beat me to it!

I read it the same way you did. It's clear he was directing the tweets at Quick, but I didn't see sour grapes or even an implied criticism of Louisville as a school or the possibility Quick might go there. It was one last reiteration of our positives -- and let's face it, our tradition with wide receivers is not widely remarked upon, so if our coaching staff doesn't talk it up, who will?
The downvotes in this thread seem a little excessive.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
DO NOT CARE....is what I think....since you asked.
Wondering if 4real has an axe to grind... maybe Zach took his lunch money or gave him a wedgie at their elementary school... cause I've read the tweets a dozen times, and using the word "unprofessional" to describe these tweets is taking such a leap that I dont see any connection at all.
I'm trying to figure out what the big deal is.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
My understanding is that coaches may NOT talk about any recruits until NLOI day. My thinking is it's a way for the staff to use social networking to do some last minute recruiting. Throw the kids name out on Twitter/Facebook so that he sees it and all of a sudden he is thinking about your program. As long as its not a vioaltion (which I have faith its not or the staff wouldn't be doing it!) thats the kind of stuff I would want my coaches doing.
A coach sends a tweet in hopes of getting a big fish recruit and drum up some excitement... Why all the over the top attacks?
completely respect some people are rubbed the wrong way by Smith's tweets but I think its pretty ridiculous to call his tweets 'unprofessional'...in the words of Urban Meyer, I want our coaches to do it again, except go harder next time...love our coaches taking pride in our program and the legends that have played here...for those who think his tweets are smacking louisville, i, like a few of the commenters, dont see that at all...he didnt take a swipe at UL, if anything he was promoting OSU and I will never have an issue with that... it has been stated and I still believe this, as long as its not breaking rules, then recruit the heck out of players until they sign on that dotted line...if there is any negativity sent Smith's way from this itll be from that part of the fanbase that would tell fickell how much his defense sucks whilst delivering a pizza to his house...there are certain things worth getting bothered by and I dont think this is one of them...Philly, Smith, Spencer, and all of those WRs have improved drastically and you can claim it was the scheme but who is responsible for the WRs knowing how to work in that scheme? Smith. Hell of a job coach and keep those boys improving. Also, keep aiming for those 5 star caliber WRs as the next Cris Carter, Terry Glenn, Michael Jenkins, Ted Ginn, Gonzo, etc. is out there somewhere and I want him dawning that silver helmet.
Reading WAY too much into his tweet(and why didn't you bring up Herman as well)? This was nothing more than a last attempt to remind the kid that OSU is the better choice. Same wig his tweets about Diggs last year.
Okay, I am late to the party. Can someone give me a Readers Digest version of what Coach Smith said or tweeted? I do not see anything related on his twitter account.
EDIT: Tweets found
As other have said, this wasn't a negative thing toward Quick. It also wasn't an indicator that they thought he was committed. If he had made a silent commit, then what would be the point of the tweets? The tweets were a last minute effort to get Quick to come to OSU, without specifically mentioning him by name. There was nothing unprofessional about it. The only negative thing that was done was the tweets floating in the NCAA gray area.
also, was quick even tagged in the tweet? dont think so...moving on
^^^ come on man he said "quick" name the, and we arent one of these schools w none.
but you are right moving on.
Good grief! The kid decided to stay close to his home and family. Hell, we weren't ever the leader during his recruitment except in a few rumors this past week! I would've loved to have the kid, but it's not the end of the world. Quick picked Louisville... and we're still tOSU with an amazing recruiting class. Let's move on already.
