The B1G commissioner said that renaming the divisions is on the table for 2014. What suggestions do you have. I read this on Buckeyenation on ESPN, tried to look at some suggestions that were being put out, but unfortunately ran into 5000+ comments of trolls and haters. Figured I would bring it up here, where I can at least see some intelligent remarks.
How are the Rotel and Barbasol divisions not a thing yet?
/Duff'd It
How about " tOSU Division" and the "No tOSU Division" ?
I'm hoping for a simple East/West or North/South, anything else just seems stupid and absurdly cheesy to me especially if they dare go anywhere near something like Leaders/Legends again
I think East/West would be adequate. We don't have to be special and have crazy division names.
Cheddar Cheese/Beer Brat
Woody and Bo
"Anything less than flagrant is just playing grab ass!"
Delany said they'd never do this, but I think this is really the only one that would make any sense. If you're talking Big Ten football, those are the two that come to everyone's mind.
the only real drawback I see to Woody and Bo would be the nonstop little-brother-complex whining of Michigan State fans who believe Delany is already too favorable to the "Big 2".
Did I say drawback? Maybe that's another plus.
Corn Belt, Rust Belt
But seriously just name them East/West or Middle/Western or Bo/Woody. I don't really care, even if we left them as is I wouldn't care.
The One with the Buckeyes & The Other One
I no longer think Beer Brat is an option now that Bielsma left the conference .But seriously.....I dont see how you can reference anything having to do with past history of the big ten as how would that be representative of Maryland or Rutgers or Nebraska actually? Leaders and Legends is just goofy sounding. I don't think you can really do much other than rename the conference the B!G 14, or 16 and then go with something easy like East/ West or North/ South
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
As I understand it, they will leave it the big 10 because of brand issues, but I think just an east and west or north and south would be sufficient. Definitely agree with you.
QuadrupleZ
Ohio state and everyone else
bastard, stole my line! +1
Great plains and great lakes
I used to think this would be best too. But a little research revealed Nebraska is the only member technically in the Great Plains.
#fistpumpgobuckeyes
The Haves and Have Nots.
The Haves: OSU, UM, MSU, Nebby, Wisky, PSU
The Have Nots: IU, Purdue, NW, Minny, Maryland, Rutgers
I didn't know which one to put Iowa and Illinois in, but I'm not sure it matters where they'd go. Of course if they're aligned this way, the Haves would be the more difficult division.
East and West, or, in a nod to the insipid current names, Beast and Best.
Least / Best
There were two names that were bandied around several years ago that I'm still a big fan of. Black and Blue or Great Plains and Great Lakes.
How about Prairie and Bay? Bay = East. Prairie = West. Plus it's accurate.
Presque Isle Bay is PA's sole bay. Maryland. New Jersey.
I'd really like the B1G to be dinstinctive from other leagues in our division names. Just not pretentious. Directional names are boring.
#fistpumpgobuckeyes
I'm okay with this, but we would not be distinctive given the Coastal/Atlantic ACC divisions
Well atleast ours would be relevant. I can't wait to see Louisville compete in the coastal division. Love packing my sandals to go to the ocean in Louisville.
How about . . .
Pioneers: Buckeyes, Cornhuskers, Boilers, Illini, Hoosiers, Spartans, Knights.
Varmints: Wolverines, Badgers, Wildcats, Lions, Terrapins, Hawkeyes, Gophers.
East and West makes most sense.
Literally laughed out loud @run_fido_run's comment. Okay now back to work!
followers and commoners!
Cowpokers - Ped State, Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Braska,
Cityslickers - Rutgers, Maryland, THE Ohio State, Michigan, Sparty, Northwestern, Minnesota
Rust Belt and Heartland
Lakes and Plains would get my vote, or just about anything other than Leaders and Legends.
How bout the Fart-knockers and the Butt-munches? No wait, those are my nicknames for my kids...
How about Division A and Division B.
I think leaders and legends is fine may be arrogant if you want but we got the money!!
Praying they just go East/West.
I'd settle for Lakes/Plains if they do an east/west split of the divisions.
i have thought about this as well - it is a bit of a tough one - would be easier if we knew if the plan was to get to 16 teams or to stay at 14 which we all agree is a bit of weird number.
I think in the end you have to go with Eastern and Western. The B1G used to be called the Western Conf so there is a little history tied to the name and the orginal teams were: Ill, Mich, Minn, NW, Purdue and Wisc... and Chicago who left. So maybe we try to keep most of them in the Western Divsion.
So Eastern would be: Rutgers, Maryland, Penn St., Ohio St., Indiana, Purdue, Mich St.,
Western: Ill, Wisc, NW, Iowa, Minn, Nebraska, Mich
or you can swap Mich and Mich St. depending upon if you want Mich in the same division as OSU or not.
Better than SEC/better than PAC-12
I like either the Great Plains/Great Lakes
or:
Land Grant/Land Bought divisions. One division for the old guard and one for the expansion schools
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
East and West is the only thing that makes sense. It would be more embarrassing for the league than legends and leaders are now if we dropped those names and went with something more even more magoo.
I don't really have any ideas on this. The truth is, the division names don't mean sh*t if tickets to the B1G Championship Game are going for $12 on StubHub and there are still 5,000 empty seats.
Bigger. Fish. To. Fry.
True, hey wait, is this the guy that changed his Avatar?
By God, I believe you are right. Nice looking avatar, Bucksfan.
Oh, you guys!
If the names are not the Black and the Blue, it would be an insult to everyone who loves the Big 10/11/12/13/14 in the country.
Animal Division
People Division
Although I am not sure Brutus really fits in the People Division, but it would fix the issue of people not knowing what division various teams are in.
How 'bout the oldest names there are: Shirts and Skins.
I do NOT want to see Brady Hoke without a shirt!
that's how you decide whose in which division. Would it be socially acceptable to see the coach without a shirt. If Bert was still here it would be hard with this evidence:
now cheerleaders on the other hand....
All the games of the season are just practices for that glorious saturday in November when we get to jack Shoelace's invisible cereal bowl and drink our fill of delicious skunkweasel tears ...Michigan Still Sucks!!
The AACC cheerleaders would definitely be in the shirts category here as well. They be fugly.
Fine. We'll be skins. (skip to 4:30)
/Duff'd It
Yeah, seriously, I'm fine with East and West (preferred),
or Black and Blue (runner-up).
Really want Legends and Leaders DONE AWAY WITH though.
What a laughingstock that made of the conference when the inner circle came up with that pretentious junk!
I will continue to lobby for the following:
"RED!!!!!!"
OSU, Neb, Maryland, Rutgers, Sconny, Indiana, Minnesota (have to accent the maroon)
"other colors"
TTUN, MSU, NW, Iowa, Purdon't, PSU, Illinois
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
Surprisingly, that is actually pretty competitivley balanced as well.
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
How about The Red Division and then The Rainbow Division. Michigan gets to be fabulous.
Much better! Good input. I like it.

Mid - Ohio State, mich, Mich St., Penn St., Maryland, Rutgers & Indiana
West - Northwestern, Minny, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisky, Purdue & Illinois
Midwest covers the main region and mid brings in the mid-Atlantic.
I like Black and Blue. I want competitive balance long term. I also want OSU and Michigan in the same division.
Big Ten Black
1. Ohio State
2. Michigan
3. Michigan State
4. Indiana
5. Purdue
6. Northwestern
7. Illinois
Big Ten Blue
1. Nebraska
2. Penn State
3. Iowa
4. Minnesota
5. Wisconsin
6. Rutgers
7. Maryland
This keeps all in-state rivalries together and has competitive balance for the most part. It also would be easy to add teams to in the case of another E.L.E. Expansion level event.
This proposal is not way different than the proposal rejected by the fans last month.
It's got some things going for it, as you say, but IMO, the Blue divison has too many manufactured rivalries and Delaney wants to split up the Chicago teams.
I like this one...but maybe put Maryland and Rutgers each in one of the divisions.

The B1G: Ohio State, scUM, MSU, PSU, Wiscy, Nebraska, Iowa
Little Sisters of the B1G: Indiana, Purdue, Nerdwestern, Illinois, Minny, Maryland, Rutgers
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
The Royal Family: UM, tOSU
Counts, Earls & Dukes: UN
Knights: MSU
Couriers & Artisans: UW, UI, NU, Rutgers
Peasants: IU, Purdue, UMinn, UMd
Prodigal Son (with man on top of him): PSU
started choking when i read that last one..

No court jesters?
MAC
Don't pick on the Gophers... See my avatar :)
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
or they could be "have an important trophy in the case" and" Cannon fodder"

How about we seperate the divisions based on your favorites to travel to versus not. Rules are simple:
1. Seperate based on sites you like to travel to and not travel to
2. If you haven't been to a school assign either school to a division
Favorites Division: Ohio State, Wisconsin*, Penn State, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern
Least Favorites Division: Nebraska, Purdue, Michigan State, Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois

Let's take advantage of the current media slant and name the divisions "SEC West" and "SEC East". So, we'd play in the B1G SEC East.
I'm looking forward to getting Indiana in the top ten rankings for football because some of the voters don't realize which SEC West they are in.
Plus I can partake in those "SEC" chants. Those look like fun and not at all rednecky or silly.
Hey..as long as we can brag about kicking Notre Dame's ass, I'm in.
T-shirts coming soon!!

How about the Magic Men and El Diablo.

I think East and West should work:
EAST
WEST
East is probably a little better AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME with OSU-Mich-PSU and a stellar MSU as the top 4 with a not too shabby Rutgers before IU and UMD, but West is certainly competitive with Nebraska and Wisconsin and then Iowa is usually pretty solid....Seems the other four schools take cycles but I think that's the best way to go.
That's actually pretty good. I don't think they should get too caught up in competitive balance. That changes quite a bit anyway.
The west isnt bad right now. Northwestern seems to be on the way up, Purdue has been okay and just hired a good coach, and there really isn't any reason Illinois won't one day be mid-level power. Minnesota also seems to me to be a perpetual underperformer. They should be better than they are.
I guess I could live with that. Hell of a lot better than legends and leaders.
I think they should keep it simple as in East and West. The B1G is already a laughing stock, they don`t need to add fuel to the fire.
Shake and Bake
Los Reyes - OSU, UM, MSU, Neb, PSU, NW, Wisc.
Las Reinas - Rutgers, Iowa, Maryland, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
Black and Blue could be the best name I have heard of so far.
Only thing close would be Cold Weather and Colder Weather
Yeah, because "Black and Blue" won't be used in jest to describe getting pummeled in bowl games every year. Pass.
touche....
did not think of that....
