Townsend looks like he could play in the nfl right now. kicker and punters these days already kick 50 yd fgs and 60 yd punts in HS not really something they develope later most go to kicking camps at like 13. Ive seen alot of tape on him boomng punts at several camps but seeing him kick his 1st punt in the army game to the 2 yd line is impressive. I know tressel use to say it, and pretty sure meyer believes, the punt is one of the most important plays and having a great punter could really make the difference next season in a championship run. I know its only a punter but its exciting that even urbans punter can run a 4.5 40 and can boom it . If he could convert just one 1st down on a fake punt next year it could possibly help win a crucial game similar to a big INT. Look forward to watching him pin teams inside the 20 all next year.

Punters only play one down (hopefully alot less) per possesion for a reason.

Yes he did shank one, but I'd give him that as a mulligan. His other punts were pretty nice. I noticed that he got a great roll on a few and only got great hang time on one I saw.

skill players on offense and Dlinemen are the key for us to win games

so im an idiot bc i make threads to talk about OSU football. isnt this a forum where people post thought and comments. If you dont wanna read it then dont open the thread. Just bc i made a comment being short stickers you guys become losers who attack people bc you think ur entitled. you'd think id said OSU sucks and f*ck urban meyer the way you people react. I don't care about stickers. I think most of us in the 11warriors community are sick of your pointless threads that take up half the forum page. Most something worth reading, then nobody would have a problem with you.

And about the topic of this thread, I disagree. A punter will never be the greatest key in a national championship run. How many times have you heard the name of the punters for Notre Dame and Alabama? I haven't heard it once.

the punter seems pretty important to me when urban meyer gives a scholarship in a time when we are limited. Last i checked field position and defense won championships.

Im talking about our punter johnny townsend, not punters in general. forcing teams to drive the whole field on every possession is a huge advantage the numbers dont lie. Teams score somewhere between 10-15% of the time when starting from the 20 and that number drops to single digits when pinned behind the 20. We won in 2002 bc of field postion from andy groom and great defense. jim tressel didnt win alot of games bc of luck it was %s and theres a reason urban meyer coaches special teams.

Remember, during the middle of the Tres era, when one of the teams in the Scarlet/Gray game drafted a punter first? (the player said that Tress had always said the punt was the most important play). I dont think we will see that again! And I also dont think we will see many (any) punts from the oponent 36 yard-line!

Reading the comments I am feeling like I am listening to my 13 year old daughter's drama because one of her friends said something about someone and then she said something about someone else and now someone else is mad about something that someone said. Thank god, it is starting to get ridiculous that people start downvoting like its crack. Its not one of those things that if you don't use it you lose it. If you don't agree refute it, but don't look for every single comment they've made in the past 3 months to downvote it. Read the comment not the name of the commentor before you downvote.
