Phil Steele predicts AP top 10 2013

tOSU comes in at #2 behind bama. It's a pay article from espn (steele writes part time for them now). Stanford, Oregon, ND and Louisville are the other non-SEC teams.

The title of this tread is deceiving this isn't his top 10, but merely his prediction of the AP top 10

Yep

Before I go into the rankings, it is important to make the point that this is not my preseason top 10 for next season, but rather what I am projecting the AP top 10 will look like to start the season. If you're familiar with my college football preview magazine, you will know that every year I tend to go out on a limb for a couple of teams in my top 10, and this year will be no different.

Talking preseason AP Top 10 just brings back comical memories from a couple months ago...LMAO

Yeah #1 is a stretch but imo his logic after that is actually pretty sound. The WWs did have some quality wins at the end of the previous season, and IF they beat Bama then for sure they should be #1. But to start them above Bama made no sense. Idk if he is a WW fan but if not I would speculate that he made this prediction so that if he was right he would look smart.

After a moment's thought, perhaps a more noteworthy remark regarding this article would be that tOSU is at #18 preseason, but finished #3, for a +15 difference. This is one of the largest positive jumps amongst the teams listed in both the preseason and final AP polls (Leprechauns, aTm>+21 unfortunately). I didn't calculate them all but some others include Florida with +14, USC amusingly went <-25, and the WWs went -16 (LOL!).

They want you to pay just to see write a top 10? No thanks.

"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

While I agree, Phil Steele is pretty highly respected and he does go into detail for each school as to why he predicts that position.

Care to copy and paste the OSU part?

I won't copy and paste, but I will summarize the main points for you when the page loads.  Something funny on that specific article won't let me log in, but when I can I'll put it under here.

Just regained access:

Main points are as follows:

  • Finished 12-0 last season
  • Braxton Miller is back and possible Heisman Trophy Candidate
  • Most of the offense is coming back especially skill position players
  • Notes that while D-Line will need replacing, Urban has recruited well and players like Roby, and Shaizer will help
  • Weak schedule and miss both Nebraska, and MSU.

Nothing we didn't already know, but again its his predition of the AP top 10 so while he may think that a QB leaving, but keeping an entire solid OL is alright. AP voters like to see a team who did well at the end of the season with talent coming back at skill positons, and a name brand head coach.

Don't wanna be #1. Stay an underdog, pissed off, and hungry.
