Just the kind of guy Belichick loves. They will get him if he is still on the board.
pats seem to like urbans guys. cunningham, hernandez and spikes.
Simon Smash
Zach Boren is the perfect late round pick for the Patriots.
PLEASE let the pats pick up Simon.
I'm actually pulling for the falcons to take simon. John Abraham probably won't be back and the spot is up for grabs. Simon can do it!
And in other Senior Bowl news, Reid Fragel had to pull out-rolled his ankle. Was looking forward to watching Reid and Simon wreak some havoc in the Senior Bowl. So I hope he can heal in time to kill it at the combine. I want all of our NFL hopefuls to do well.
Hell, I saw Nate Ebner making a tackle on special teams.
And SbyMW, I do have a feeling that Fragel is going to absolutely kill it at the combine.
I agree that Simon and Boren would be great fits for the Pats.
What do you think about Tebow? If Belichik says he would bring him in a tell him he is NOT going to be a QB. I think a coach like Belichick could find useful spots for him.
I love hearing about this bc back when it was week four or so there was some ignorant/ degenerate saying Simon sucked and how he'd never be drafted and this and that (haven't seen him here that much anymore...too bad). I mentioned how Vrabels ties to NE were possibly why Ebner got a chance at NE. It's exactly why you could see Johnny reeking havoc for the Pats. These NFL teams do much like college teams do and scout these guys all year. It's not a shock to see this really...Bill B. knows good talent and John is exactly that...may be even great...we'll see I suppose.

The Pats have an eye for undervalued talent. Simon fits that description perfectly.
John Simon missed Tuesdays Senior Bowl practice with an injury and is returning home according to Clay Hall. Hope it is nothing serous, too bad.
Belichik is definitely the kind of coach who looks at the whole package that john simon brings. He might be a little small to play as a down lineman. He might be a step slow to play standing up. But what simon has an abundance of that sets him apart is the want to, desire, work ethic and character that belichik looks for in a player. Screw the measurables...john simon is a relentless, high motor player whose main goal is crushing anything that moves wearing a different color jersey. That alone is worth more to me than a 40 time or ht/wt combo.
I have scanned a few Mock NFL Drafts, and I see Simon hovering around the early 3rd round. I know I'm an OSU homer, but this seems kind of low to me. Am I delusional and drinking the Buckeye Kool Aid? Thoughts please.

That is about right actually. I say he could possibly go late first round if a team takes a flyer on him and I believe he will be worthy of that, but I actually believe he will be taken late 2nd or early 3rd because he will be underrated coming in.
I really do believe he will be good if he beefs up to 275 (I think it is possible) and becomes a pass-rushing DE in a 3-4 (light I know but his strength could make up for it) with the caveat that a really good pass-rusher (ala Aldon Smith) is behind him. He may not be the most amazing DE out there but I think he could be good enough to make the players around him much better.
I can see him on my Chiefs (3rd round pick would be a steal IMO) playing in front of Hali and helping Hali get an easier shot to the QB. Right now Hali has no help in front of him on the pass rush. Heck, the KC DE are barely good at run support let alone an actual pass rush.
Of course I wouldn't mind a few other guys at DE either, but would love Simon to be there.
simon will come in underrated...because he doesn't have the measurables that draftniks and nfl talent evaluators look for. He came in as a DT, and made himself versatile enough to play up and down the line. He's strong enough to engage interior linemen and hold his own. He's also quick enough to come off the edge. Its just his size...6'2 270. That's what will keep him from going any higher than early 3rd. Which is total crap, and there will be many gms kicking themselves for passing on him. He's relentless and has the right attitude to make himself more than what people will expect from him.
Now the intersting question is does someone take a flier on him as a 3-4 olb? You mentioned hali squirrel master, and he's a prime example of a tweener. He was a dominant DE in college, but size became an issue. Same with vrabel, his position coach. And both of them made a pretty good living at the OLB position. Just a thought...and I think simon has the mentality and coachability to make that switch. But does he have the quickness?
