Michigan fans are over at mgoblog praising Taylor Lewan's blatant facemask grab no-calls as "a solid job on Clowney". But this just shows that you can't truly stop him, you can only hope to contain him until he pops your head off.
I've noticed Lewan do that quite a bit and get away with it most of the time.
All I can say is Wow! What a hit!
That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!! It's the best hit I've seen in a long time. I give Smith some credit for trying to hang onto Clowneys leg after he realized he wasn't dead.

Can anyone clarify the new helmet rule. I, by no means, am discounting that brutal hit. But I thought once a helmet came off, play is dead. So regardless of who recovered fumble, the play is stopped.
And to add, that loss is all on Hoke's chubby excuse for shoulders (cholders?). Never go for two when its not necessary. Michigan kicks the two extra points, it's a 3 point game on that final drive. Not as much pressure to blitz and expose secondary. If they do hold them to just a fg, take your chances in ot (plus USC's kicker sucked).
That's basically the rule, but it's not so tight. When a helmet comes off, the ref is supposed to whistle the play dead, and the play still stops on the whistle. It's not as if it would be reviewed so that the play stops the second the helmet comes off

Best part of it was wiping the smirk off of Fred Flinstones face after the refs blatantly gave scUM a first down on the worst call ive ever seen.
Saw it live. The stadium, which was about 65% UM fans, erupted...Even the Tsun folks were saying 'DAMN!' As an OSU fan in a strange environment, I was smiling on the inside, even as I told my wife, don't worry, it wasn't that big of a hit...

Did the scUMmers not see how poorly Lewan did against tOSU? And now blatant holds and hands to the face of Clowney is the only way he can contain him. Good luck at the next level for Lewan because they NFL refs will call that a lot more often.

I love how you can see Gardner finish the handoff, and before he can turn his head to carry out a fake he sees Clowney light up Smith.
Kind of feel bad for Smith and mostly wish it was Robinson that got lit up!

That has to be one of the worst executed run plays I've ever seen. Three guys are in the back field and two others are coming in unblocked...
Secondly, I don't know if I've seen a runner get hit 7 yards off the line of scrimmage on a straight handoff. Clowney is a beast!
I think that hit, tops Nebraska's Bell's from the Championship game. That was just amazing, Smith was like, oh boy I got the ball and WHAM! Also way to blow the W SCum.
