A budy of mine who is a Georgia fan found this this morning. I will leave the interpreting to you.
To me it sounds like he is saying IF he goes to Alabama, Saban coaches the DB's, so they would be working directly together.

Quite a stretch to say that he is saying that. Its interesting that the authoer says that Bell saved the highest praise for Saban but they never quoted what he said about Meyer.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Because quoting or reporting anything pro-OSU is blasphemy in the south!
Sounds worse than that to me, but not a ton of context, couldve misspoken. Im sure a lot will say it doesnt mean anything, but I have a feeling if he said the same thing in ohio states favor instead, this thread would be blowing up.
If we don't get him then maybe we can pick up three recievers? Maybe Gibson, Elder and Timmons?
the only thing that has me concerned is the comment he made after THE GAME about how cold it was...I don't know why that bothers me but it does.
But he didn't even go to THE GAME. Think you might be thinking of someone else. DeShawn Hand maybe?
No, he was there on an unofficial visit on his dime.
search your feelings Alpo.....
Edit: I could be wrong though...someone let me know if they remember his visit.
I searched my feelings and they tell me he never made it up for a game at all. Pretty sure his visits were for FNL and then early December. It's all good though Bodast, no hard feelings
I don't think he has visited since last summer when he camped at FNL with Darron Lee. That's what makes the visit on 1/11 so big. Urban gets the first shot, which means I'm excited.
I am thinking now that it was Hand...all the top recruits the Buckeyes are bringing in gets confusing...the Force may have betrayed me today LOL
I looked back and couldn't find anything about it in GeneStar's quickbits....Upvotes all around for the updates. Thanks Guys !
+1 for you sir!
Bell didn't visit OSU during the season. He's supposed to visit this weekend, though. He did visit both Tennessee and Alabama for games.
And don't forget, Urban Meyer played DB at Cincinnati so he knows a little about that position as well
this is true, but he doesn't work with the db's directly...i think that is what bell is getting at...Saban is essentially his position coach
I think the outcome of tonight's NC game will reflect on Vonn's final decision.. Just my opinion..I sure hope this kid is a buckeye, but my gut feeling is he will not be come signing day and some of those other guys who WANT to be buckeyes will be missed out on..I can't take take the stress of waiting for NSD!
I'm freaking out man
I don't know why tonight's game would have all that much bearing on where Bell goes. He knows already that if he goes to Bama he will be in a position to be at least playing for championships, and that doesn't change whether the Crimson Tide win or lose tonight. But, he also knows Urban Meyer has won championships as well , that OSU went undefeated this year, and they will be in a position to compete for championships as well.
agree...tonights game doesnt have any bearing on his decision...the only thing i could see is if he were to get jacked up if bama wins, and commit in the excitement
I could be wrong, but, if I recall correctly, he said essentially the same thing about Nick Saban during an interview previously where he also mentioned he has the best relationship with Urban Meyer of all the head coaches recruiting him. At that point, he also said Saban is a DB coach who gets guys into the league, and would be working with him, so that would be a plus (I'm paraphrazing here).
I'd have to dig to find that interview, obviously, but it seems to be his "canned" response for Alabama when asked about the different teams, except the new addition of them playing in the NC once again.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
I think I know what you are talking about. some type of 5-star round-up nterview or something, and I do remember him saying that.
This isn't good....but will have to wait until NSD IMO....hate to say that...bc I'd rather be saying UFM and Co. lock up his commitment this weekend....but don't think it happens.

well the way i read it (i am a poor reader by the way), bell is not coming north to play for the good guys, and that sucks, if i am reading things right.
I still think he comes to the Buckeyes for one important reason. If you remember back to his interviews, he said how much he wants to be a coach someday and that was one of his main selling points to which school he chooses. I think OSU and Alabama are even on ability to win NC's and sending guys to the league, but OSU is clearly ahead of Bama in turning players into coaches. There are alot of former Buckeyes coaching at the college level, including quite a few here at Ohio State. Plus, Urban Meyer is very vocal about wanting his former players to come back and coach when their playing career ends.
I think the most important reason will be depth chart. If he picks OSU that's probably the reason, although I don't think he would want to say that as it makes it look like he doesn't want to compete.
The one thing that OSU has going for it is that Bell is in a position of serious need, and he would be just one spoke in the wheel full of the most elite class of DB's in 2013. He has to realize that he would be the center piece of the quad-fecta of Burrows/Apple/Conley/Bell. That's quite a place to be, and to know the guys you'd be going to battle with every Saturday, and to have the bond of having all of them be a part of the same class. All of that is pretty special in my book.
Just a life long Buckeye fan wanting to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans. Our honor defend, we will fight to the end for OOO HIIII OOOOOO!
Who knows, but Alabama gets an official after Ohio State right? That could be more telling than anything. Get the free trip to Columbus, have a nice meal, go to a party or two and enjoy it on their dime, then go to Bama and commit.
possible, but he doesn't seem like the type to do that. he has been very careful throughout the recruiting process...would be a complete 180
Unfortunately I think this may be right^^^^whether it's his "style" or not. It's recruiting, anything can happen. I'm hoping he chooses the good guys...but I'm not sold that's what happens with Bama as the last visit right before NSD. I'm just not feeling as confident on this one as I previously was.

That's what worries me. Maybe he comes here, loves it and commits on the spot and cancels the other trips. Unless that happens though, I think he's all Bama. I always hear having the last visit is best, but now for this kid we are supposed to believe getting the first visit is good? I'm not buying it.
He was just stating that if he went to Alabama he would be coached directly by Saban.
According to 247, Vonn Bell was seen hanging out with our recruits (Marshall, Burrows, Buagh and Bosa) most of thise past week at the UA Bowl and they believe he'll be a Buckeye.
He could be playing Bama like Quick played us. V-Smooth......
I wouldn't read too much into Bell's statement. He's talking to a reporter "off-the-cuff." We didn't get to hear his voice inflections, facial expressions, etc.
For example, Bell might have been phrasing it as a hypothetical, not a declarative statement: "[If I go to Alabama] Coach Nick Saban [is] a DB coach, and he’s going to be coaching me."
Consider another example, one using a hypothetical, another using a declarative statement . . .
Hypothetical: Billy Bob asks his friend Rico if he's going to the bar tonight. Rico, who has a girlfriend who hangs out with the same circle of friends as Billy Bob and Rico, shakes his head no, rolls his eyes, and then explains, "That drunk chick Suzy is going to be all over me."
Declarative statement: Billy Bob asks Rico if he's going to the bar a week later after Rico's girlfried cruelly dumps him. Rico smiles and then says, confidently, with a tone of voice that implies "mark my words" . . . "That drunk chick Suzy is going to be all over me [tonight]."
The thing that is playing in our favor is he is bringing up his entire family, I'm sure OSU isn't paying for the entire family to come up. Maybe he wants them all present for his commiitment to OSU. Thats a different take on it.
I am not trying to be a wiseass or anything, I admit I haven't followed recruiting much in the past. How exactly does an official visit work? Does the university pay all expenses? If so, for who, just the recruit or his parents as well? Maybe just recruit + 1? I don't know, who can answer this for me. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Says no travel for family, but meals and lodging look to be OK.
This says that the school isn't allowed to pay for family - http://www.ncsasports.org/blog/2009/11/04/the-truth-about-official-visits/
Sounds like he is Bama bound but things can change with a visit to Columbus.
If he's bringing his family, I don't think he's ALL Bama yet, still could be a lean, but his family isn't going to pay for themselves if this is already a done deal (GOSO - as far as I've read - the NCAA is not allowed to pay for family travel - the FAQ section - http://tomlemmingfootball.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Recruiting_Visi...). The only reason his family would come along is if there's other family in the area, anyone know this?
Maybe Vonn was told that Saban is retiring after this year from Bama as head coach and becoming the DB coach at Ohio State?
wasn't he fired from that job before by Earle?
The reason I think Bell comes to play for the good guys is because of the three questions he asked when picking which programs he would seriously look at. The three questions were ones that our coaching staff would have good answers for, especially how the program would help him pursue a coaching career after football. Getting a player like him on campus is all you can ask for, as Urban continues to fight for the best of the best.
A little tangential, but does anybody know if Urban's teaching the coaching class that JT used to teach? If not, is it still offered?
I read the article this morning too. It's weird that he was quoted as saying that when Bell's high school coach said over the weekend that if Bell were to sign today he would most likely sign with OSU. Not really sure what to think here.
OSU has a slight lead at this moment from what I am hearing so I don't think it means anything
Really? Very encouraging, thank you.
OT a bit, but does anyone know when Bell is planning on announcing? Is he going to be waiting until NSD or when he is done with the visits? I have heard a lot about everything surrounding his visits but never a date. I think even if he (silently) pledges this weekend he still will take his visits to Tennessee and Bama out of respect to the programs but I just wonder how much longer it will take to find out with him.
I think this one is truly a toss-up as opposed to Quick's situation, which was a close call, but ultimately Louisville's to lose the whole time being the hometown fave. A lucky young man, I would say, for having two powers to choose from (not disqualifying Tenn, mind you, but...) and having the composure to carry himself in an appropriate manner.
I agree you always knew Louisville had the edge with Quick and also just happened to be a year that the Cards had a great season. V. Bell is looking at the best school for him with no allegiance to either. Bringing the family on his visit is huge and the fact that Saban changed his routine to get his in home visit in before Bell's official is another key piece.
