According to 247 sports Da'shawn has named a top 5 of Alabama, Mich, UNC, Va Tech, USC east. Does anyone know if this means we are out of the running completely, I thought we would at least be in the running considering how much he has been discussed by OSU Fans so its somewhat dissapoiting to not be in the Top 5. I trust Urban to continue to recruit great Dlinemen and hopefully he can change Hand's mind but this is not great news.

He then tweeted that tOSU is #6. So, you're saying there's a chance!
Probably just skipped over the one he had circled.

Link? Per his expanded list on 247 we're still in.

He is being recruited by some big fish. When I know the names of almost every coach recruiting him he must be a big deal.
His recruitment is far from over. I think Urban and the rest of the staff will be after this kid all the way until NSD. Hopefully some other OSU leans from the south like Kwon can talk to him about coming to Columbus to chase that crystal ball.
He tweeted saying Ohio state is six.... but then tweeted that he is sticking with his top five. So..... ship may be sailing on that one. Idk how Michigan makes it though. F that state.
People... LONG LONG way to go on this... it's a top 5, not 5 finalists... not stressed
ninja edit: notice he mentioned OSU without being asked... we're not out of this at all
Cause I couldn't go for three
We are the hot chick recruits use to get other hot chicks
You win. End the thread.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Zach Smith was said to be his lead recruiter?
Go 14-0,and that changes everything.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
^^^^Agreed...this will help change things if that happens.

I thought we had a good chance with him o well I guess.
not losing faith!!!
Greg Mattison must be his recruiter.... Time for Urban or Fickell to take over this recruitment
I don't know why you stick your WR coach on the best defensive player in the country who also happens to be a wrestler when you have Luke Fickell.
I was very surprised to see that OSU wasn't in his top 5 but there's a long way to go. Also he has become close to several top recruits who all have OSU at or near the top of their list so I actually see OSU moving up his list fairly soon
I'm guessing some of this has to do with the fact that we just got commitments from 2 stud linebackers, and last year signed 3. Our drop to 6th on his list coincides with the signing of Trey J and Mike M.

What does that have to do with a DE? They get a shot at the tackle before it gets to the LB. Explain the logic, because I just don't get it.
I thought he was LB my mistake

It's cool.
We signed 5 last year, 4 if you want to call one a hybrid.
Not a good sign. Love the endless optimism, but if a kid drops us back that far this early it usually isn't going to wok out for us. If uranium wants him, he's gonna hafta step it up clearly.
That being said, how does UM make the top 5, for serious?
Two words: Greg Mattison. He and Darrell Funk (TSUN's OL coach) are the only things keeping TSUN from slipping back into RichRodville.
That and he said that out of all the coaches, He liked Michigan's coaching staff the best
Uranium don't play.
Uranium must be Urban's new nickname, I like it!!
Michigan might easily lose 3-4-5 games next year. Hoke will be on the hot seat soon eneough.

I highly doubt this. I really can only see them losing to 1 or 2 teams next year. The B1G isn't exactly elite next year
Largely dependent on how quickly Michigan's young talent can grow up. Surely Lewan is gone, so they'll bring back just one OL starter in Schofield. If Michigan can't establish a running game, it's going to be a long year. The defense will probably be the strength, but if it can't cause more turnovers and have more sacks, it could be a struggle.

I think Michigan will be better without Denard. They will not focus so much on the option read and their lineman will not have to zone block as much. I feel their line was horrible last year and aside from Lewan, will be significantly better with the young freshman they have.
The problem this year was that they tried to make Denard a non-read option QB and struggled until they went back to it. Not sure what the issue with zone blocking is since it destroyed ND all night.
However if Devin Gardner continues to improve as a passer they will be much more of a consistent threat (not as dependent on Denard blasting a big run).
Borges will have a better idea of how the run the offense since more of the players match the pro style he wants to run. Lewan announces tonight if he's staying or leaving (I'm guessing he's gone), but I am fairly optimistic about the OL. They will be mostly young, but Schofield is a pretty good tackle and the interior line should be better. I think Michigan is a 9-10 win team. Outside of ND and OSU, the schedule isn't that challenging. Will Nebraska be improved?
Not here to troll...Go Blue
Hoke won't be on the hot seat for a while, and it won't really warm up unless Michigan doesn't make a bowl, which I can't see happening.

One thing people have to consider as well is that none of those teams (with the exception of perhaps Alabama) has anywhere near the sort of DLine depth that OSU has. This is one situation where I could see the fact that OSU is LOADED on the DLine (especially at DE) hurting on the recruiting front rather than helping. Hand likely wants to start immediately, and amazing 5* or not, it's unlikely he'd be the immediate starter at DE at OSU the way he would be at every other school in his top 5 (Bama being maybe the only exception--though one might be surprised to hear that they only have 1 or 2 DE recruits in the last two classes iirc). Not that he wouldn't get playing time anywhere, including OSU, as a Fresh DE--but at the rest of those schools, again except Bama, he'll start immediately. That has to be alluring, and conversely a detractor from OSU for him.
i was thinking along those same lines LLJJGG. he could start at TSUN instantly, which is a big draw for some recruits. i think i read that he also wants to be an engineer, and TSUN has one of the better programs in the country, certainly better than the rest of his top 5. that being said, i think VA tech is in the driver's seat here, but since he said he won't announce until this time next year, plenty can happen
This is just my feeling, but when TTUN>tOSU after the guy attended The Game at our place, well, that's a pretty big selling piece for us and a bit concerning that an unvisited SCUM over ranks The Game at tOSU, that just has "ow" all over it. I certainly had more confidence in our odds to get him to campus for good before that. Not saying its over, but I really am not going to have a lot of stock in this one unless something pretty big develops.
There is so much more to recruiting than winning one game. Yes, there's a wow factor involved but sometimes this can have a neggative effect on recruits. More of the attention was probably given to the game and not the recruits.
I imagine, but still.. Unvisited TTUN > The Game at OSU.... Its early, long way to go, but that is kind of a big statement to me. If you can't appreciate The Game, how much do we really want that kind of player? Its a desire thing, and maybe he just simply isn't into that rivalry so a bit is lost. I'm just a bit removed from the probability of getting him looking at this little bit of information, because I think it is kind of a strong statement. Could entirely be changed in the next 13 months(We have Urban Flipper Meyer... So yeah) but I'm a little less warm to the chance I see him committing.
Teach me to get my hopes up of Hand+McMillian combo! :/
thought Hand would be a bit of a long shot...never out of it with Urban but feel that Garrett, Booker, and McMillan would be the three guys i want most as of right now
If he has said something about wanting to commit somewhere early on in the process I'd worry a little bit but it's VERY early for 2014...Urban has plenty of time to make up ground if Hand is still open to other suitors outside of his top 5.
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
I heard the top overal recruit from 2020 still has us in his top 5 though! #futurebuck
Didn't Laquon Treadwell and Derrick Green have us pretty high this time a year ago? Do I think we'll get Hand? I have no idea. DO I think it is over? Not at all!
I wonder what happened during his visit. Cuz I know he's visited OSU and VTech but hasn't even visited scUM. So it says a lot when a school is in his top 5 he hasn't even visited
I'm far from confident about Hand, and fairly confident in Michigan getting Malik McDowell. If they somehow reeled in both...yikes. It would be comparable to Spence and Washington.
