Did Brian Kelly really take an NFL interview just to get more money out of ND? I think it is ridiculous to be honest, however he knows that he is a hot commodity right now, and that ND will pay for it. My main question is how long until schools start to say "sorry brocephus, we have moved on!"?

This is anecdotal, but I was talking to what seemed to be a reasonable ND fan and he was against giving Kelly a long term extension and raise. He cited the ridiculous money they paid wise and willingham after a good year. Just found it interesting that a domer was not falling all over himself to praise the genius that is Kelly.
That is awesome, nobody trusts the guy. I meant to say in the post that these were obviously his motives, just goes to show that he worried about only one thing and that is himself.
Well on the flip side of that, Boston College fired a successful Jeff Jagodzinski after he interviewed with the Jets. They ended up with Frank Spaziani and the Walrus. I would hate to be an Athletic Director.
Ive done the same thing to get more money from an employer, so I don't blame him. My guess is 99% of people would do the same thing in their current position if they knew it would work.
Good point. In some cases thats how you get a promotion or raise.
Good point, the only draw back for me is I'm military, no raises unless I make rank. When I retire, and am a wal-mart door greeter, I will try this tactic.
i don't know how to say this properly so bear with me. I don't know anything about you except that you're in the military and like the buckeyes (I presume), so I hope that in your future you would not be a wal-mart greeter afterwards because you've given your time to our country.
Edit: obviously you're making a joke, but unfortunately I know some marines who do not have good jobs outside of their service. end rant

I've done this same thing to make more money as well. I'm also not making 4+ million per year...with an entire team, school, & fanbase that are looking to me as their coach & a guy who they hope is more than just a hired gun. I'm not for this thing where the coach flirts with leaving to get a raise. If you want a raise - ask for it. You just took the team to the NC game, shouldn't be too tough to get a bump in pay...

the only difference is he is already making millions! he doesn't need more money.
What is the amount of money one makes where they should no longer want more money?
the correct answer is "f*ck you money".
Also heard this somewhere and thought it was great: What's the difference between being rich and being wealthy? Shaq, he's rich. The guy that writes Shaq his check, HE'S wealthy.

I did this to Best Buy as well. I got a total undersized raise for my work level and so after I got a slap in the face I left out and my supervisor asked me what was wrong(He wasn't involved in the process of my raise bc he was recently hired for the position and couldn't give feedback on me) and I told him that I was going to talk to Circuit and look for a move because that raise was BS. He understood, Best Buy returned by capping my pay a couple weeks later. Of course another couple weeks later I was at a different Circuit w/ a former supervisor and another sizeable pay increase w/ a lot more for head room that Best Buy had 0 chance to compete w/.
Get paid, nobody is going to look out for you. That being said, some sort of allegiance to a program would be appreciated.
I don't think I would. Greed is one of the deadly sins and I'm positive I'd be happy with even 2% of his annual salary.
If you were making $80,000, but suddenly made your company millions of dollars, Im sure you would feel you deserved a raise.
He's getting a lot more than $80,000. He is still getting paid a multiple millions a year, minimum. I think I would be fine with that. Again, I believe greed leads to negative outcomes. Just my $0.02
You mention Bocephius. I met an older black guy in MSHA training in Az from Tx and his name was Bocephus. Had no idea about Hank.
No sir I mentioned bRocephus. However I did steal it from a movie.
Sorry folks, I don't really like it, but when has Notre Dame shown loyalty to their coaches? How many have they had this decade? If you don't win, you're out. Sadly you have to get while the gettin's good.

Swarbrick has already said an extension and raise were being discussed and worked on long before the Eagles contacted him. Kelly could have been leveraging more money for his staff or other changes he wants, but there was interest in the Eagles and this whole thing wasn't just about getting himself more money, that was already happening.
Neer, they've only had once coach this decade. Kelly was hired in 2009 and has been there since. :)
Fair enough Clashmore - how many did they have between 2000-2010?

does George O'Leary count? if no, 4.
Unfortunately, we're going to have to count O'Leary. Probably shouldn't, but it makes the number 5 instead of 4, so...O'Leary is in. Lotta coaches...
Just giving you a bit of grief btw. Have a good one.

I don't think it's ever a bad idea to explore all of your options
I'm telling my boss that the Eagles have contacted me. Let's see if it works!!

think Kelly did a great job this year but Bama exposed just how overrated his accomplishment was IMO...ND going undefeated is obviously a big acheivement, considering there is only ONE unbeaten team left (BUCKEYES baby), but I think if you look back at their games and the teams they beat, really Stanford is it for me, I don't think they were very impressive, so the fact that Kelly is getting this massive amount of cash from ND is clear to me that reason wasnt a big factor in Notre Dame's decision...
Great point Andy...it was all for money. Chip may have done it to see what's out there (bc he already received incentives before interviewing for Browns and others). But overall...both Kellys were after more money or more incentives. IDC what anyone says...it's a business....bottom line.

Shame on ND for getting upset over this. Here's the big secret, Notre Dame-even after this year's miraculous run, you still aren't the destination job you once were. Moreso, you hired a guy who has a track record of looking for the next big job-CMU\Cincy\ND\Next....You don't seem to care when he finds greener pastures in ND but you get upset when he's seeking greener pastures in Philly? Nina, Por Favor.
His stock will never be higher than it is right now. This year's success will almost certainly be impossible to duplicate so if he cashed in on it, be it in the form of an NFL job or an ND raise due to the threat of an NFL job then hats off to him.
Now of course, he's still a purple faced, loud mouthed buffoon, but what do I know?
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I'm telling myself I'm outta here if I don't give myself a hefty damn raise!

Demand more money after getting embarrassed in the NC game. The fact that it worked is more embarrassing.
