Bill Bank Greene said on the radio this afternoon that after dotting some I's and crossing some T's Smith will likely be a member of the 2013 class.
That is good news on the WR front.
Who does that leave us with still uncommitted? I think Bell is a lost cause, and Gibson seems like much less of a sure thing now. I assume Elder is the only sure bet, with Skipper as a possibility. Who am I forgetting? I assume we only have 2-3 more spots open tops.

OL hunt is still a possibility i believe.
what makes you think gibson is a much less of a sure thing? i read his visit went very well...again hearing it is all academic
Rumors that WVU is enticing because they lose a lot of WR's, and he's likely to get playing time earhly. He may have even said this himself, but it's unknown how big of a factor this is and how much it's really pulling him.
WV is also losing Geno Smith... Who is going to throw him the ball? They also went 7-5 and got hammered by Cuse. If he is smart he will go OSU. He can crack the rotation this year.
Absolutely agree. I was just answering his question about why he might not be as much of a lock anymore - due to alleged buzz about WVU.
He should be a Buckeye. He will get touches.
Gibson : Heres the thing I dont get if there is a grade issue why would staff be this far in? Wouldn't they have cancelled visit?
Smith kid can catch and has Wideout skills . He will compete right away.
Elder great athlete but more of a slot guy. Want him , but not sure how many we need. Tavon Jacobs is explosive and so is Zeke.
Gibson is good, but we have WRs. Smith is further along, and I suspect Gibson still has issues holding the staff back.
Because I don't think it was ever "grade" issues. I think it was TEST SCORE issues. Hence, the staff was "this far in" because I think they kept thinking Shelton would achieve the appropriate test score, and I think the reality is he never did.
Am I wrong, or was there another Ohio WR that went to WVU in the last few years...I thought I remembered who it was but apparently age or alcohol is affecting my memory..
No one almost did, seems like a similar situation to Gibson's recruitment forget the name though
Was it Latwaan Anderson?
Anderson ended up on a track scholarship at Miami, never played football and transferred out of Miami. He is now at the same school that Corey Smith is leaving in Mississippi.
vacuuming sucks
Yes, thanks.
+1 to you sir....
I think you guys are thinking of Jackmerius Tacktheritrix. He ended up going to Michigan State.
The guy I am really intrigued by now is this James Clark fella from Georgia. His film looks as good as any WR we've seen outside of Jalin.
Well since Jalin doesn't play any WR in his film, you could certainly make a case for Clark's being the best of any WR haha
Ha, I'm talking about the recent films from the camps and watching him at the All-Star game.
You might be thinking of Dan Smith. He went to BYU.
Honestly, I think we're fine at receiver, I'd love another tight end, maybe Hingle McCringleberry.
4-6 seconds of relentless effort
Now that was pretty close to being a dick I-8 ..... not that I didn't like it .... but a dick nonetheless
Same tone I've used for a year, I'd think people are used to my sassy demeanor
You're lucky you said that to me, given that I do not have a stick up my ass like many of the posters on here. Otherwise you'd be in downvote hell right now.
In fact, I'm going to upvote you.
See what I mean?
this is why we don't talk about it
smh...
Some of my best friends (and relatives) are dicks
I laughed. Didn't think about this being a "dick" comment until I read someone say it.
Well there ya go
I thought it was Javaris Jamar Javarison-Lamar. It's hard to keep those names straight.
He seems so friendly.
Too bad we missed out on Xmus Jaxon-Flaxon-Waxon
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
You were close Tron-- turns out it was T'variusness King.
Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
Dunno, Hingle McKringleberry was a hell of a Tight End at Penn State, as well.
He'll always be the one that got away...
Quatro Quatro would really have helped the secondary this year and we might never get over the loss of Tyroil 'Smoochie' Wallace. He'd be the ideal "Harvin" role....
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I think that Donkey Teeth would have been a better Harvin than Tyroil Smoochie Wallace.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
A large dosage of Key & Peele references make any good thread into a great one! I can't breath, I'm laughing so hard
EEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEE.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
I can't figure out Gibson situation, either. Trying to decide whether:
a. staff is continuing to recruit him with the knowledge that he'll go JUCO, but will be ours, ala Cardale Jones, next year.
b. it's just not going to happen as grades will be long-term issue that staff can't gamble on. I mean, if his grades are "in place" right now, he should be good to recruit, right?
Looks like we should be having a grey box very shortly
I believe that is exactly what the original poster posted, but from Chung.
my bad...apologies...
Haven't been following Smith much, but if he's in this class, how many years of eligibility does he have remaining? 2?
I believe so.
On another note, we conceivably could have a 3 WR set where Braxton's options are a choice between 2 Coreys and 2 Smiths.
He'll have 2 years for athletic competition that he must complete within 3 years. That is, he can redshirt for a year and still have 2 years of athletic eligibility left. I do not believe OSU would consider redshirting him; I'm just stating the rule.
Yes, three years in which to use two years of eligibility. Probably won't redshirt him, though, so prob be here two years.
Chung is wrong. Hasn't committed... yet
I don't believe nothin if its not in a gray box
So did Chung wrongly hear what Bill Greene said or is Greene the one that's wrong?
Chung misheard and then jumped the gun without confirming.
Can't imagine he feels good about it
Will Corey Smith be able to start immediately or very soon? He is a JUCO so that means he only has 2 years right?
He reminds people of Holmes, if that answers your question.
As stated previously in the thread, he'll have 2 years for athletic competition that he must complete within 3 years. That is, he can redshirt for a year and still have 2 years of athletic eligibility left. I do not believe OSU would consider redshirting him; I'm just stating the rule.
See the answers given above.
Maybe Chung just wants to "break" the story first in his mind? I prefer accuracy over being first.
Trust in 11W...I think a gray box will be popping up sooner rather than later though!
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
The possibility of Smith committing got me thinking: When was the last time OSU signed a player from a JUCO? The only one I can find from the last 10 years is Larry Grant from 2006. What, if any, others are there?
Can someone also tell me what the rules are governing JUCO transfers?
He must have heard Bill Greene wrong. Dont know whole story with what he decided to go with.
Just know that Bill Greene never said Smith was a "done deal" on 97.1
Chung throws as many accurate recruiting tidbits as me..lol
Carlos Hyde was a JUCO wasn't he? Also Cardale Jones and Mike Thomas, I think...
Does Fork Union (Cardale, Mike T.) qualify as a JUCO? Or is it more a college prep academy?
FWIW, i grew up at a boarding school (high school) that like Fork Union offers a post grad (PG) program. this is to allow students an opportunity for one more year in high school before going off to college. there are many reasons for one to take a PG both academically and socially. often athletes will use it as an oppotunity to grow one more year physically, or taking the extra year to improve their academic standing. being in the boarding school environment for the extra year can also help some adjust to college life.
Does not count against 4 years of college eligibility
no that's a prep school
Carlos Hyde was not a juco
Fork is considered academy, not juco.
From the Fork Union website:
And this:
So it's not a JUCO, it's a prep school.
With the main difference being that Fork Union does not eat up any eligibility years where JuCo does.
JuCo does eat up eligability years generally two, but the players are often physically ready to play right away unlike a 18 yr old freshman who needs to grow into his body and add bulk etc....
IMO, JuCo players are often gambles, because generally speaking (not always) there is a negative reason why a D-1 talent went to JuCo instead of straight to college. Sometimes that is completely not true, but I think he is Devin Smith's cousin so maybe the Staff are trusting Devin vouching for him.
It will be funny if Devin Smith, Corey Smith, and Gareon Conley are on the field at WR together at some point since they are all cousins, or at least they are both Devin Smith's cousins.
"...they're midgits!"-Coach Kerry Coombs
Jucos are a gamble unless you make them into a science like Snyder does at K-State or Price used to do at Wazu. It's hard to time their eligibility though, which is why K-State waxes and wanes a little bit
If we decide we are done woth receivers after Smith I'm all for going after Skipper. 6, 10" and 300lbs. Are you kidding me? Give him some time and Warriner and Coach Mick and he could be a terror.
Pardon my ignorance but who is Skipper? I frequent 11w everyday several times a day, but do not know that recruit. Thanks
How Firm Thy Friendship....
Dan Skipper, OL from Colorado. He committed to Tenn before Cooley was fired. After the firing, Warriner offered him. I believe coaches met with him over the holidays and was able to squeeze a visit at the tail end of his trip to Arkansas. I think he is also loking at ttun, and ole miss.
Thanks for the info!
How Firm Thy Friendship....
I'm worried that he could be the football equivalent of Manute Bol
Two JUCOs I remember from my days at OSU.
1.) Marcel Willis - This dude was a beast. He was moved to LB, but his JC position was Safety. He was like 6' 3" 220 and ran a 4.5 40 and played Safety. His highlight tape was crazy.
2.) Joe Germaine - Another Arizona guy. Are we counting community colleges as JUCO? Its considered a JUCO in Arizona. He was pretty good.
3.) ADDED: LB Kevin Johnson, LB James Cotton. Lots of guys from around that time.
Yep Socko,
Community College & JC are interchangeable. I think it is regional as to how they are labeled.
I know a lot of people think the Bleacher Report is crap but I read multiple different websites daily to see what info is out there. With that said, B/R claims that Corey Smith visited OSU but left without an offer. Any truth to this?
I can't find anything about it with some targeted searches. The reason people hate BR is because almost anyone can post what they want, so in general you should assume they are as reliable as an unprotected Wikipedia page.
Even less reliable. False info remains in print, unlike on wikipedia, which gets copy edited.
