First off, I want to say that when you hear the phrase "Urban Meyer knows how to build a team" that's not anything except the truth. Can you imagine if he lands Kain Daub, Raekwon McMillon, and Clifton Garrett? Obviously it's wishful thinking, but in one class to knock out the LB corps for the next several years would be amazing. Realistically I don't think the buckeyes land all three, but stranger things have happened. If I have my choice of the three, I like McMillon the best. He's been adament that he has OSU as his #1 and I don't think that will change.

0%, Daub will likely not be in the class. Sub Dante Booker Jr. for him (who we lead for). Kyle Berger might be a replacement if Garett goes elsewhere, but I see Berger ending up at UM.
Booker Jr. = the truth, I like that kids playing style
I hope Berger doesn't go north, reminds me too much of the Ryan, Bolden guys they already have up there that are playing very well.
I think we take McMillan, Garrett, Booker and Berger.
Berger is a stud and the staff really wants him. Also Booker is a guy who could easily fill out and be a DE/OLB hybrid.
From all the things I have seen and read we have a realistic shot to land booker, McMillan and Garrett. I know we lead for McMillan and one would believe we lead for booker but I remember seeing awhile back Garrett said MSU was his leader but I don't know as of recent. But anything could happen so here's to hoping for the best!
Wasn't there something about Booker, McMillan, and Garrett saying they were talking about wanting to play together while they were visiting for the OSU/Mich game? If so, that would be sweet!
If Booker's talent is at all comparable to those other guys, which by all accounts it is, we need to get this guy. Otherwise he'll be another scUM or MSU commit who comes back to burn us big time. I guess taking a guy just because he's from Ohio is not Urb's style, he wants the absolute best for the program, but it's hard from a fan's perspective not to think this way.
That's why I love this process, I throw names out there, and my fellow buckeye fans show me the light. Booker Jr. looks like a beast. I'd take him, Garrett, and McMillon, or any combination of the three to be honest.
Just a life long Buckeye fan wanting to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans. Our honor defend, we will fight to the end for OOO HIIII OOOOOO!
I fully believe Dante Booker JR. from Akron SVSM is a real deal national prospect. We sheould land him, McMillan and hopefully Garrett.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I think we land 2 of 3... If we go to the 3-4 like some have mentioned we could land them all. With us playing some nickel taking 1 LB off of the field and bringing in the star it could hurt us... IMO... If we needed 4 LB's we could rack up next year. Not sure if the staff will change their philosophy tho.
Has any coach or representitive of the team mentioned a switch to a 3-4? I find that hard to believe with all the D-lineman they are bringing into the fold.
We do play some mixed 3-4 with the Viper, rather than Leo position. Viper is a standup LB that can put the hand down, Leo is a lineman that can stand up. Lewis is a Viper, Williams was a LEO. Marcus seems a bit fast/more geared towards LB so he could play the Viper too.
exactly, doesn't matter what you label them, the best 11 will be on the field and fast. There are already so many hybrid players on this defense going forward, no reason to say 3-4 or 4-3. Between the Leo, Viper, Star, is this defense a true 4-3? or is it an Amoeba, adapting to its opponent?
No one from the coaching staff has said anything about a 3-4... There was thread started a couple of days proposing we go to the 3-4 since we have so many stud LB's. It was just something for people to talk about.
Inherently, we run a hybrid defense, which means we switched from the 4-3 to the 3-4 on a play by play basis, thus why we have the existance of Viper and Star. With the 4-2-5, that's where the Star position comes in, the fourth DB can also act as a linebacker.
Wouldn't it be the 5th DB? Corner, Corner, Safety, Safety, Star?
My bad, brainfart while typing on my phone.
Why does everyone think Berger will go to Michigan? OSU was his first offer and Michigan just recently offered I believe. Everywhere I read OSU is the leader for this kid.
As far as the LBs for the 2014 class, the staff will get 3-4 and will be a combination of McMillan (high), Booker (high), Garrett (med-high), Berger (med-high), Billon Bates (medium) and 1 or 2 other names.
Some think Michigan is his leader because of the comparisons to Ryan and that he was blown away by the offer.
From everything I've heard, OSU is Berger's clear leader.
Kurelic even thought that he might be our first commit for 2014 (obviously he won't now)
McMillan and Garrett are wanting to team up with D'Shawn Hand and play together somewhere. I don't think Daub is apart of that. Booker Jr. Would be a nice 3rd but really the score is McMillan and Hand, then whoever else wants to tag along.
Again, this is a bit of looking too far ahead. Much like talking about Wilson and Barker for 2014 and practically forgetting that Barrett is the likeliest candidate to take over for Brax, with Johnson and Mitchell committing this weekend, I think future starters for the next 3-4 years is already on the team. Good problem too have but don't dream too big too early.
I like thinking about the 2014 possibilities but don't forget last year we were talking about Anzalone, Neal and others and no one even thought about Johnson or Mitchell.
I badly want McMillan and Garrett...the other spot can go to whom ever Urban feels is worthy
Garrett who is probably the most up in the air of the "Big 3" of he, McMillan, and Booker is visiting in early February, which is a great sign imo.
I think we sign all 3 of these guys plus one more. Berger is a popular name, but I'd be more inclined to think somebody like Davonte James.
If Meyer pulls these 3-4 LBs in 2014, it will be the BEST 'backer class to ever come to OSU on paper. They all look like studs. Fingers crossed!
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
I really like the thought of going into recuiting for 2014 and not having a dire need for the linebackers...
Yet, this class has a real possibility of becoming the most talented class of them all!
I like our chances with Booker and McMillan from what I've heard.
Relax, you guys. Booker will be in this class.
Trust The Rapping Bum.
Help is on the way.
I think McMillan, Booker, Garrett, and Bates are the top 4 targets for OSU. I wouldn't be surprised if we take 4-5 linebackers in 2014 though, with Berger, Sawyer (viper), and Mouhon as guys to watch.
At this point, I fully expect McMillan to be in this class. It's so early in the process though that its hard to predict who else will fill out the class, as a lot of names will pop up in the summer that we haven't heard or read about yet.
Berger/ or Garrett, McMillan, and Booker...this is my prediction now. Almost all three are in now...besides Berger. I can see Clifton Garrett going elsewhere...or may be Berger does (this one is a coin flip IMO...not sure if they lock down an in-state LB or go after Garrett due to his love for OSU. They both have offers...so this one should be interesting). Booker will be the first...bank that! With Big Mc doing his thing at the all star game he attends. It's all good in LB land Buckeye fans...we won't see anymore 49 point games against Indiana anymore (thank you lord for sending OSU "good" LBs).
Kain Daub....???? Why...he's going to Bama or LSU...Oregon and USC can wish in one hand and s@#t in the other to see which fills up first (he decommitted from FL already...IMO we don't want him anyway...they must WANT to come to OSU...otherwise F'em! No need to woo or beg these kids to come).
Say thank you to Doran Grant for being on this one with his ties to SVSM;-)
