Watching the KU game on ESPNU now. Did anyone else see the report where Brian Kelly is interviewing for the Eagles vacancy? It'd be pretty great if we could pick off some of ND's recruits if he left.

Hope the Eagles hire him and Jaylon comes to Cbus.
I tend to believe this is a Kelly wanting to get paid. he isn't going to the NFL hust my opinion.
Get out of here with that negative talk. :(
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Exactly! Interviewing for an NFL job has become so disingenuous these days. They just want a raise and do so by wasting everyone's time. Brian Kelly isn't going anywhere...
^That's what I'm thinking. Would love to snag Jaylon Smith... hopefully that wouldn't scare off some of the guys next year though.
"Kelly met with the Eagles on Tuesday, and there was mutual interest after the interview, according to league sources. Kelly left the country after meeting with the Eagles and could not be reached for comment."
"The Eagles and Kelly have agreed to revisit talks when he returns this weekend, according to league sources."
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8830219/brian-kelly-notre-dame-fightin...
Sounds like a real possibility.
I'm sure that it was scheduled and he is on vacation or whatever...but, having seen the brutal nature of Eagles fans, the line "Kelly left the country after meeting with the Eagles" struck me as hilarious.

"Sources" = make believe people.
The possibility of getting Redfield and Jaylon makes me giddy like a Buckeye fan when Urban was hired.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
The staff never really seemed interested in Redfield even though he said he would listen if the coaches reached out to him. Adding Jaylon would be insane though, possibly the best linebacker recruiting class ever.
If Bell goes to Bama, that might change.
Mitchell
Smith
Johnson
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Mitchell and Johnson are already commits.
I want Saban, Chip, Kelly, and Brian Kelly to all go to the NFL
Why Chip Kelly?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Less recruiting competition/ Dontre Wilson
If Brian Kelly is gone, there might be a shot at getting Jaylon Smith, and maybe Redfield. In addition it will shut ND fans up for awhile. I'd prefer this over getting Wilson.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I imagine that in the long term Urban will probably run into Chip on the recruiting trail for some athletes beyond Dontre.
Might not be a problem if the NCAA comes down hard on them.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Are you kidding? 20 years of mediocraty would not shut up the ND fans, losing their coach won't do it either.

THE Ohio State University
Shutting them up for just 5 minutes would be considered a while.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I want Urban to get another shot at Saban first.
I clicked on it... I regretted it immediately...
I want them all to go but in 4 years and the story line is they are leaving because they can't compete with Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes.
It would surprise me greatly. I'm under the impression that ND is to Brian Kelly what Ohio State is to Urban Meyer... ultimate dream job. He's recruiting at an elite level, getting paid millions, and coaching at, what I thought, was his own personal destination job. In addition, I think Kelly has a very abrasive personality and coaching style, and although coaches like Parcells, Coughlin and Belichick also have gruff personalities / styles, they have the resume AT THE NFL level to garner respect in spite of them being "difficult". I think professional players would tire very quickly of Kelly's ranting, and ultimately tune him out. I think Jim Tressel would be a much better fit at the NFL level. That doesnt mean I think Tressel would be a great NFL HC... but I think he would have better chance to succeed than Brian Kelly.
Some guys just want to prove they can cut it at the highest level
Brian Kelly is all about Brian Kelly and money. He gave the speech saying Notre Dame was his dream and all that but I don't buy it. He had 2 pretty crappy years at Notre Dame leading up to this one. He had a magic season, but he's going to lose key players, and while he has a nice recruiting class coming in, it's not likely they'll repeat this year's success for a couple of years if at all.
He could posslibly be worth more right now than he ever has been. It would'nt surprise me at all if he bolts for the Eagles.
I think moreso than looking for a pay raise, Kelly is looking for a couple of academic exceptions per year for his recruiting classes. After going up against Saban and seeing the difference in talent levels, I think Kelly realizes that something needs to be done to get the playing field closer to level. He'll never be able to oversign like Saban, but at least he'd be able to get a couple more high profile guys that wouldn't normally qualify at ND. If ND doesn't appease him, I think he is NFL bound.
I hadn't thought of that but I totally agree.
It seems like the ND administration has already loosened things up quite a bit for Kelly. We might even argue that Urbz is using a tighter filter than Kelly is right now.
If ND gets even more generous in allowing academic exceptions, then it will be rather fitting that ND and Lousville are both joining the ACC because they'll be similarly-run programs.
Kelly knew the academic requirements when he went there. I think he realized that he might be a hot name in the NFL and wants to cash in. The coaching carousel in the NCAA will allow him to come back anytime he is ready.
I hear this all the time regarding ND's academic standards, and then they sign another top 5 recruiting class. Recruiting is not, and has not been ND's problem.
And Brian Kelly will be given a bonus to stay in 3...2...1...
"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying." -Woody Hayes
Exactly... he is probably doing what Chip Kelly did.
Yep. He's doing what BOB did. Wanting more money for him and his assts.
#fistpumpgobuckeyes
I wonder if we would have room for Jaylon even if he did want to commit. I'd guess he'd take Worley's spot?
I'd love to take Redfield as well should we strike out on Bell.
Also OT Hunter Bivin is another who we were real high on. I think there were even rumors a couple months ago of him still having interest in us.
Got to love the world of recruiting.
Exactly Buckey_Baker. I believe both Chip Kelly and Brian Kelly are using the NFL to gain leverage for more $$$
If he does leave, I could see ND fans spinning this as the reason they got trucked by Bama.
"He was distracted"
"He knew he was leaving"
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I don't believe Kelly will be leaving South Bend, but if he does, who do you think Notre Dame goes after? Do you think they call Urban? Who else do you think they would call?
Sumlin
Bob Stoops
Chris Petersen
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I don't know about anyone else, but I have no concern of Urban leaving anytime soon. He knows he's got a dynasty coming.
I'm not concerned about Urban leaving, but I do think ND would reach out to him if Kelly left.
Agreed. I think they reach out, but he had multiple opportunities to take that job and hasn't. I don't see that changing.
"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying." -Woody Hayes
Kelly had one of his best teams, and got absolutely smoked. They benefitted from weak competition and luck (getting Stanford early, USC without barkley). Kellys stock Will never be higher than it is now. It's good to get out on top then next year, when they Will be brought down to earth again
Guys, he interviewed for the job. Not "is interested in", not "would listen to team officials", etc. This is a pretty serious escalation in events. We all kind of knew Chip Kelly would test the waters (and I think Oregon's recruiting class has suffered as a result), but Brian Kelly's move, the day after getting his ass handed to him, is interesting. Maybe the reason for his detached affect at halftime (along with the ass-kicking, of course)?
This is interesting for sure, especially considering he said this before the NCG and his team getting completely destroyed:
Yeah I though his SOP was to leave before the bloodbath. See Cincy/FLA Sugar Bowl circa 2010.
The only honest statement I have heard come out of his mouth was the comment about having a chance to win if BAMA failed to come out in the second half.
They still would've lost 28-27
No doubt, he knew they would get slaughtered IMO. I think it is at least a two touch down win. Cincy had some quality players but not enough depth/speed/size to run with the Gators.
Money grab. Time for the boosters to pony up. When will a school call their coaches bluff?? When will a contract actually be worth the paper its written on?
I think it's too late and there isn't enough room for us to grab any ND recruits in the event of Kelly leaving. How much do you want to bet he is just going to get a contract raise at ND?
You very well may be right about it being a contract ploy. If he leaves in the next week, though, it's not too late for anything to happen to this recruiting class. That would be a major shakeup with some serious players, some just having committed, in play.
You don't say "no" to Jaylon Smith, you make room.
Brian Hamilton @ChiTribHamilton
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
are they really saying that???? WOW
I wouldn't put anything past Kelly...after the way he dicked Cincy, I wouldn't be surprised if he chose a career at Wendy's as opposed to seeing his team through.
PS. Wendy's kicks ass.
Has a coach ever gotten a raise after getting embarrassed like that?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Going 12-0 in the regular season and the appearance of "re-establishing the program" will get him a raise if he wants it.
Obviously, it's the successful college coach's "tactic du jour" to talk with the NFL, in hopes of getting a raise. But this is Notre Dame. That outfit is run by guys who would pull a coach aside after a game like the one on Mobday night and say, "Forty-two to fourteen?!!?" Their sense of urgency may have Briqn Kelly reading tea leaves and asking himself, "With this kind of pressure, why not go to the NFL, bag more cash, burn out and/or get launched in 3-to-5 - en route to a cushy T.V. gig?"
Would like to see him go just to pick through their recruiting class this year, however as most have pointed out this is just a money grabbing tactic.
John Montelus and Jimmy Byrne need calls... Just sayin'
Help is on the way.
SMH at the people who actually think Kelly is going to / might leave.
I find it funny to see all this "speculation" over coaches interviewing for NFL teams (i.e. Both Kelly's interviewing after having successful seasons in CFB). It's a TOTALLY different ball game in the NFL...and it's too late in the recruiting cycle to grab Wilson and especially Jaylon Smith. It's not happening and both Kelly's will be in CFB next year...guaranteed cash money statement...bc both are doing interviews to get large extensions as well as this $$$$$$$$

I just don't see why people think it's so absurd that Kelly will leave. He's never shown loyalty to any program he's ever coached at. I understand it's Notre Dame, but why should we expect that to change now?
He very well could move up....BK has done it every time he's gained success at his current job (Grand Valley ST, Cincy, and now ND). I just don't think that's what he's going for. Chip Kelly's going to get a nice extension as well as compensated well for those years. Look for Brian Kelly to do the same thing....I could be wrong....hence..."speculation."

I don't necessarily believe Chip Kelly only interviewed to get money from Oregon. I mean last year he did agree to a job with Tampa, even if it was just for a day. He could of had legit interest in the Cleveland job, but when they met he decided it wasn't for him. He may have also found out or been told by his AD that impending sanctions won't be so bad. Of course we all know full well what happens when an AD tells a coach the sanctions won't be so bad lol. Bottom line is, I think Chip Kelly has real interest in the NFL. I also think Brian Kelly is an absolute egomaniac who cares only about Brian Kelly.
It's going to be about the ole mighty $$$ now for Brian Kelly and Chip. However, either one of these guys could end up in the NFL. Just not this year....their present employers will be forced to go deep into the pocket books bc of their NFL interviews and performance by their perspective teams in order to keep them there. If you're worth it...then they're going to have to pay them more. Chip is going to readjust his contract...here's the link for USAToday. That's a quote from the article...
You can guarantee he received more money for staying or incentives at the least. Not trying to over state my opinion or what not. Just saying....this is all about $$ bro...it always is.

Not saying it isn't about money, but that doesn't mean he isn't leaving. We've seen recently where high profile college coaches have left for NFL and all it has to offer. Pete Caroll was facing sanctions sure, but he wasn't getting a show cause, he could of coached ANY college program he wanted and been paid for it. Jim Harbaugh is the same way. The man could of had any college job he wanted. Greg Schiano was offered great college positions and turned them down. So, I think the fact that he met with the Eagles, there is mutual interest, and they'll talk more when he gets home is more than simply trying to leverage a huge raise out of Notre Dame. Especially, when this guy has flown the coupe every time he was offered a better job. The question is, if you are the Eagles, are you really convinced he's that great????
I'm not saying he's leaving, but I won't be 1 bit surprised if he does.

I encourage you to read this...it's always about money (there's nothing in that article per say that says he stayed for money but lets be honest with each other....it's always about money). Both stayed...mysteriously after interviewing in the NFL....hmmmm...??? They'll both will end up there yes...but these two systematically did this my friend. It's a business...bottom line. They'll both get hansomly paid for staying...Chip already was before interviewing for some NFL HC jobs. Not trying to be overt with my opinion...just showing that this time around...these guys wanted more $$$$.

I am just glad he is not interviewing for the Browns opening......He is not going to end up in the NFL. Hell, he was one game away from sainthood this year there is no need to leave now. Even if he does, time is running out for those committed players to go elsewhere without classes getting full at other schools.
Could you only imagine a finish to this class:
Jaylon Smith (OLB)
Vonn Bell (S)
Hunter Bivin (T)
Dontre Wilson (ATH)
IF Kelly were to leave, AND IF Smith & Bivin were wanting to look around?
That would easily be the #1 class. 2 are current targets and 2 were very high on our boards and high on OSU before, so IF Kelly were to leave, its not off the table yet.
I can dream of something that could actually happen, right??
#Buckeyes
Where is all of this talk about Urban to ND if Kelly leaves? I know he coached there earlier in his career, but I can't see him leaving OSU for ND. Especially with Braxton, Barrett, and the defense he has coming in.
Notre Dame fans are hilarious. If he were still at Florida or something I could maybe see it, or it this was when he was in his off year yeah that makes sense. Those aren't the situations though. He's got one of the best players in America for 2 more years, he has recruiting rolling, and he ain't going anywhere.
I've never really believed him when he talked about if it weren't Ohio State who came calling he wouldn't be coaching, or Ohio State was his dream job and other stuff he's said. He's content here though, he's got a good thing going, and he's not going to walk away from that.
Never.going.to.happen. Urban is going to retire after his stint at OSU...no NFL and especially no ND.

oh my god!!!
brian kelly and chip kelly have the same last name!!!
I like football
Just saw where Brian Kelly is staying at Notre Dumb. I suppose this is good for College Football..
Thank you for commenting on this one instead of creating a new forum for it!!
And by good you mean horrible, right?
Notre Dame fans are just as cocky after getting destroyed by Bama. How is that even possible.

Man, are the Eagles really that pathetic?? No one will take their money!
