Basketball vs Football
B1G has 6 of the top 15 highest paid basketball coaches. Not coincidentally, basketball in the B1G is phenomenal. Only 4 football coaches in the B1G can say the same (and one of them is Ferentz!). The B1G Will get better when schools start paying their coaches better. The new TV deals should come in around 2014, meaning we hopefully should see an improvement around that time.
Interesting take. Another thing to look at though is assisstant pay. While everyone liked to make fun of Bert, one of his main reasons for leaving was the lack of assistant pay. If the BIG steps it up there, then we will likely see an improvement.
Football staffs have more assistants, too, so it costs more $$$$. Basketball has only 2-3 assistants and even some of them are grad assistants or first-year guys who dont make much. Easier to field a solid hoops staff than to put together a really solid football staff in that regard.
