I was checking out a couple websites for all-time NFL draftees, (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/colleges/ohiost/drafted.htm & http://grfx.cstv.com/schools/osu/graphics/pdf/m-footbl/nfl-draft-history.pdf ), and noticed that so far Ohio State has had a player selected in the Professional/NFL draft 424 times. This just includes players drafted, not free agents.
Also of note: when looking at the professional/NFL Drafts from 2013 going all the way back to 1936, Ohio State has had a player drafted in every single year...except the 1998 NFL Draft, (which is hard to believe).
The teams who have drafted the most Buckeyes: Cleveland Browns (32), Chicago Bears (30), Detroit Lions (23), Green Bay Packers (23), Philadelphia Eagles (23), and the Pittsburgh Steelers (20).
Approximately by position, there have been 16 QBs, 35 WRs, 42 RBs, 58 LBs, and 61 DBs drafted from OSU.
The list is pretty long; here is just a partial list, from 1970 on:

I'd like to see how these numbers compare to other schools, namely michigan and notre dame historically and SEC schools over the past decade or two. Both in terms of sheer volume and by position
wow, nice list. Appreciate the time it took for you to find all of this.
All the games of the season are just practices for that glorious saturday in November when we get to jack Shoelace's invisible cereal bowl and drink our fill of delicious skunkweasel tears ...Michigan Still Sucks!!
thanks, no prob

The 2004 team was ridiculous...3 first round picks and 14 total picks...Craziness
Agree 2004 was great but 2006 was better in my opinion. more first rounders.
Jim Tressel vs. Rich Rod = Urban Meyer vs. Brady Hoke
yeah, I've always thought that '06 class & '99 class were special teams the season before ....
I believe the '04 class set a record with the 14 NFL draft picks. The OSU '71 class had 13, but '14 is an all-time NFL draft record I think.

Thanks for the great info.
Just curious, were there any undrafted players in '98 that "should" have been drafted. Just seems like such a talent rich period at tOSU. Plus, I would assume most major schools have at least one player drafted each year, and the truly elite schools (such as us) would almost be a lock to have someone!
....good question. OSU went 10-3 in '97, but the good news for the OSU/bad news for the NFL was that the team was still young, so a lot of guys weren't eligible for the '98 draft and some other guys returned for a shot at the national championship in '98 (preseason #1).
But, there were some pretty good players from that '97 team who were eligible but did not get drafted. One one of those guys who didn't get drafted was RB Pepe Pearson, (who makes the all-time OSU Name team, btw: http://www.elevenwarriors.com/blogs/bucks43201/favorite-buckeye-names-of-all-time). Pearson was a free agent for the 49ers and a few other teams. He actually had a nice little career in NFL Europe with the Rhein Fire.
Another guy who went undrafted but played a little professional ball was DT Winfield Garnett, he signed as a free agent with Jacksonville, Minnesota and a few other teams, and also played in NFL Europe, but made his mark more in the AFL with the Grand Rapids Rampage.
It's also worth noting that former NY Giants RB Joe Montgomery probably would have been drafted a year earlier, in the '98 draft, had he not had the leg injury that caused him to medical redshirt for OSU in '97. BTW - Montgomery later (in '10) filed a defamation lawsuit against OSU. He accused the university of falsely reporting a medical condition ("high blood pressure") he did not have, which he said limited his disability claims from the NFL.

speaking of the NFL draft, I wonder where our Buckeyes get drafted this year. Pretty much every mock draft has BIG HANK going in the 1st round. Other than HANKINS, I'd say SIMON and HOWARD in rounds 2 & 3, and STONEY goes late 3rd/early 4th. I think FRAGEL could be a value pick on the second day; maybe a free agent offer for GOEBEL & SABINO. OHRIAN JOHNSON could be a 6th-7th round or free agent - thinking he'd be a good athlete to have on special teams. Thankfully, the rest of the offense is pretty young so we retain pretty much everybody.
Big Hank will go in the top 1/2 of the 1st round.
I think Howard will have a good combine and slide up to the 2nd round. I see somebody like the Pats drafting Stoneburner.
This looks like it took a sh!t load of work. Thanks for this list and for the other stats above!
Still can't understand how this guy goes in the second round.
I was happy the Saints picked Jenkins, but I wanted the Little Animal in black and gold also.

I agree. I was yelling at the television during the 2009 draft, begging for my Steelers to draft him. St. Louis got an absolute steal there with Laurinaitis. He has all of the intangibles, leadership skills and hard-working discipline you'd want for a future leader of your Defense. I still can't believe he was passed up in the 1st round. I thought he was one of the only "sure things" of that draft. Although, I think he was taken very early in the 2nd round, like in the top 3 picks of the 2nd round. What a player. He & Jenkins both got robbed by not getting selected to the Pro Bowl.

When I look at that list it makes me wonder how much better the 2002 National Championship team wouldve been with Nate Clements who left as a RS Soph. Thats Gamble and Clements on the Corners incase you were wondering how awesome that wouldve been. AND............ of course it pains me to think of the 2006 beat down without Holmes, Whitner and Youboty who all left early with one (ill let you pick) having no business doing so.
I have to disagree about P. Pearson, i never felt he had the speed or size to be an OSU RB. Just my opinion.

Very impressive......both the number of Buckeyes who have gone to the NFL and the work you put together in sharing this.
Just looking over the talent Cooper brought in that went pro, just smdh he didn't win a NC.
