Wisc. State Journal reporting that Gary Anderson, coach of Utah St., interviewed for and will be the next coach of Wisconsin. Utah St. went 11-2 this year. Doesn't seem like he has a lot of Big Ten connections though.

For all of the names being thrown around, this seems like an odd move. Now, I don't know much about him so I couldn't tell if he's qualified or not (I would imagine having success at Utah St means he probably is a solid coach), I just find it peculiar...like a 4th or 5th option.
I agree. Utah St. had a really good year this year, going 11-2. However, it seems like Wisconsin went for Chryst, Golden, Riley, and Tucker all before Anderson. While I respect Anderson for the job he's done at USU, this hire doesn't scare me.
It's a little scarier if he brings his DC, Dave Aranda, with him. He's one of the best in the game, and he's a specialist in defending against spread attacks. Five times this season Utah St held its opponents under 10 points. Only twice did a team score more than 20 against them. They ended up 8th in scoring defense.
Here's the link to his profile.

Was hoping for more of a name for B1G purposes. Oh well. He's been successful. At least they didn't have to resort to bringing back the Zooker.
Decent hire...could work well for them.
Class of 2010.
The comments over at bucky's 5th quarter seems like their fan base is really excited... I dunno, I have never heard of the guy, but it looks like he had a good season and he almost beat UW

Well better than the reaction of ttun to RichRod. While he made some mistakes (especially with his defense), it is hard to win at a place like ttun if you don't have the support of the alumni or other parts of the university base. Might as well support him until the thing doesn't work out.
Will recruits know him or care about him? In terms of the blogpost about the importance of this hire for the B1G it won't blow anyone's skirt up that's for sure.

Nice under the radar hire for Wisky.

WOW...way to go Wisconsin!! Hiring a coach from the WAC who went 26 - 24 in 4 seasons at Utah St. I am starting to wonder if OSU and scUM are the only two programs left in the BIG that really want to win. How does Wisky consider this a great hire? I really expected them to have a more impressive hire.

Compared to what Utah State was before he arrived, I'd say that's a decent resume.
He was Urban's defensive coordinator at Utah for a year. Just sayin...
This guy is a very solid coach. But, from watching a few USU games the past few seasons - I've noticed a few glaring weaknesses.
1.) much like another great coach - Chris Ault from Nevada --- can be a terrible clock manager at times, (not as bad as Ault tho)
2.) questionable situational playcalling. In other words, there were games last year where he had that stud RB Robert Turbin, but he wouldn't give him the ball...he'd overthink it and throw too much.
3.) if his team gets down a little, he panics and abandons the running game too early
just some things I've noticed...but, again, a solid coach overall & a has a good Offensive scheme/system in mind

I hope he does well at WI..we need some teams to step up and at least challenge us a bit for the division.

anyone else feel that this is an upgrade over Bielema for Wisc?
Bielema did a decent job, but it wasn't his system or anything.
I just heard Anderson took the time to call each and every one of his USU players to let them know he was leaving for Wisconsin. I have to give the man great respect for that move.

Really? That's awesome. Sharp contrast from the move the tool from Pitt pulled when he bolted for ASU last year. Didn't he do like a mass text or something?
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
For once, I can say "classy" and not be sarcastic about it.
Class of 2010.
+1. Sharp contrast from the type of douche move we typically see from coaches when they bail (Bielema, Tuberville, etc.).
FWIW: It's actually Andersen not Anderson.
Watch what you say about this guy. Urban was looking at him as DC. If Urban likes him, then he must be legit.
Makes perfect sense that Urban wanted him @ OSU. Andersen worked for Urban @ Utah as one of his defensive assistants. Having worked with him, Meyer would know firsthand that Andersen is legit.
