Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe they are just great recruiters, but why does it seem like Clemson is one of the schools that's high on recruits lists? I understand the Michigan, Alabama, USC, Texas type teams along with tOSU, but why Clemson? They are good, but play in the ACC, and haven't shown they can play on the highest level. Could it be that there is just a lot of talent coming out of Georgia and its close?
Someone help.

Well if I were a WR or QB like Kitt or Watson, I would check out Sammy Watkins and Taj Boyd and say sign me up for that. Obviously there are a lot of good places to go, but based on their success it is hard to blame someone for wanting to emulate that.
I agree with your post. They seem to choke every year in a pretty weak conference.
Joke about paying recruits in 3..2..1...
UHH I THINK THEY PAY THEM DOWN THERE LOL LOL IM FUNNY
Clemson is the Texas of the southeast. They always compete for a recruting national championship, but it rarely translates into sustained success on the field.
Yes, I know Vince Young won Texas one national championship, but that was in spite of Mack Brown and staff, not a result of their coaching and development.
Be real. Texas had 9 years in a row with 10 wins, say what you will about Mack but his record is pretty similar to Tressel. I would take Tressel's over his but look at his record.
anyone who wants to tell me mack brown is a good coach, i will laugh, not only laugh, but laugh hysterically. the guy can recruit, however, i could name 10 coaches who, with given the recruits he gets would be top 5 every yr
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Brown's teams have underachieved the last two years, prior to that he had nine 10+ win season with 1 national title and a runner up in that span. If he is overrated, then you must also think Tressell was too because they had very similar records.
eh its been the last 3 years, and I wouldn't say they had similar records. While Tressel had a 7-5 season, in his first season, never did he have a 5-7 season followed by 8-4 and 9-3. Don't get me wrong I don't think Mack is as bad as everyone says, but a 22-14 record over the past 3 seasons with that kind of talent is ridiculous. I wouldn't expect a national championship every year, but a 5-7 season is hard to swallow.
Haha Texas of the Southeast! You have got to be joking. I live in GA and I will tell you clemson jumps on these kids early.
Florida state is slowly but surely taking that honor from Clemson
"I like to kick Michigan's ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum."
From a conference perspective and playing on a national stage, I completely agree with you about Clemson not being as attractive. However, there are many reasons these kids are looking at Clemson.
Clemson has a great campus, Dabo and staff do a nice job recruiting, Clemson has a great environment on gameday, and they do put points on the board. Offensive players want to be part of that and defensive players believe they can help get things fixed on the defensive side of the ball. The Tigers are highly ranked, playing in a bowl game, and surely distance is a factor.
I also believe that when you compare Clemson to some of the other programs nearby, Clemson appears to have more momentum (UG, GaTech, SC, NC, NCSt, UTenn) though that's just an opinion. I didn't say better because SC has had the better of Clemson the past 4 years I believe. Go Bucks!
Yeah, I get a feeling that a lot of Southerners look at Clemson as a sort of SEC alternative. The school to go to if you're not really looking too strongly at Bama, LSU, FLA or UGA (or aren't crazy about the amount of depth they have at your position). Gets a lot of the same media attention the SEC does, looked at as a southern power (without having won anything substantial), has some flash/appeal to the school.
Almost every recruit who decommits from Auburn, Alabama or Georgia seems to have Clemson in their new top 3. My uninformed guess is that they must have a great recruiting staff that sells their product very well. Look at Tosh Lupoi at Washington. Would Reuben Foster have even bothered naming Washington as one of the schools he was considering when he decommited from Auburn if it weren't for Lupoi? Very unlikely that he would if it weren't for the recruiting prowess of Lupoi. Good recruiters are like good publicists for an actor. They can take you a long way.
Well if I were getting recruiting the things I like about Clemson are their colors, uniforms, stadium as well as their nice, warm location. Not only that they have a pretty good coaching staff so it's easy to see why kids want to play there.
Let's see, they get smashed in bowl games. They always kill their BCS chances. They coach their talent down. It must be location because as much as Sweeney seems like a good fella, they always piss away the football season. I expect LSU to crush Clemson, based on the fact they haven't performed well in big games. Imagine if MSU or Northwestern had their players, they would be coached better than Dabo could, or at least I feel they would.
Wherever you are, there you be!
2 ACC Conference Championships since 1990, is sure to draw attention.
I forget what game I was watching, either an Ohio state game or maybe a game Urban was calling two years but one of the announcers relayed an anecdote about a time Urban lost a recruit to Clemson while he was at Florida and how he was so pissed that Clemson could beat them for a recruit. The story goes that he was angry until he got an opportunity to see a Clemson game and experiencing the atmosphere and the scenery he understood why it would appeal so much to recruits
May be it's this from Dabo Swinney...not to mention Chris Morris is a great recruiter as well as a QB's dream coach for an offensive coordinator.
I still think after a great 2013 season for OSU...all this Clemson hype will be exactly that...hype. OSU will be one of the top teams in the country, not to mention the best coaches in the country....and Clemson will not. OSU will get a helluva class for 2014 with Watson and Kitt being in it (as well as a host of others from GA and other southern areas). Down vote me for my overconfidence if you must...then come back this time next year to tell me I was right;-)

Truth be told......some kids just like being a BIG fish in a Little pond. Sets them up for a look at the next level.....although can not think of many Clemson plays in the NFL. A nice campus and a weather friendly location helps especially if it is close to home.
What are their entry requirements like compared to the B1G?
The only real guys I can think of who play in the NFL are DaQuan Bowers, CJ Spiller, Brian Dawkins (still playing?), and Trevor Pryce. Although they had a couple of good retired guys - Dwight Clark, The Fridge, Levon Kirkland, Chester McGlockton. But yeah, overall, not too much representing in the league.
I went to Clemson and let me tell you something; there might not be a more beautiful campus in the Southeast. The weather is great, the landscape is beautiful, the women are too. it's in a very rural area and the team has very much of a family environment. The fans are just as crazy as any other SEC school and Death Valley is pretty awesome. Heck, when Urban was announcing a game at Clemson back in his espn days, he said he understood why he was losing all these recruits to Clemson. It's just a great place to be
Women like this?
Brother, you don't know the half of it!
Goodness gracious.....sign me up...oh wait...I'm 36 and have no years of eligibility;-)

Well it's too late for you, but I still have 4 years of eligibility, I'm 20 years old. I've seen Clemson's defense play, surely a DB that's 5'10'' 168 and runs like a 4.7 would fit right in.
NWB,
She is hot but not as hot as your avatar.......inside joke for those who doesn't know the full view shot
Thanks! The disclaimer is that my wife fully approved that avatar. We are both diehard Buckeye fans!!!
Beautiful campus, hot chicks, passionate fans, warm weather, proximity to home, cool coach, and relatively easy conference.
I would say this about the best explanation on here. Greenville is a really cool town, it's a beautiful campus, and although they blow it yearly, I think they sell them on the potential. "You're the missing piece of the puzzle kid - once we have you, there is nothing we can't do" type of thing.
My mother in law just moved to Greenville & I gotta say, it's one of the nicest little cities I've visited in a long time. If I was a southern kid with the opportunity to play CFB wherever I wanted, I'd take a pretty close look at Clemson...Then I'd go to OSU of course!

A number of kids from Northern Virginia head down to Clemson every year and love it-lovely campus, beautiful area with a lake nearby, great school spirit, football is king, they are all delusional as to how good their team is, good social scene, pretty girls and good looking guys. It is in the boonies, it is southern (I do not mean that as a knock, older daughter went to an SEC school, did have have some culture shock at first (What? Wear sundresses to football games? How are you supposed to jump up and cheer for your team? What? Bless your heart is not a compliment?) and did have to adjust to Southern Ways), and Clemson and the Walmart just outside of town are really the only things going on for miles around.
