Johnson won't be taking a visit to Florida this weekend because he has finals. His coach said he believes he will take some visists in January to Penn St, Florida and Tennessee.

Hope Urban gets a commitment before those visits

UF just picked up another LB commit today. You have to think Johnson is a lock to OSU now. Penn St. shouldn't be a factor and UT has a lot of issues with a short time to develop a relationship with Johnson.
Do you know the name of the LB who committed? I know Matt Rolin committed to Florida a couple of weeks ago, and that Quinton Powell recently decommitted from them. I hadn't heard anything on Rivals or ESPN's GatorNation about them adding a LB today, though.
Jarrad Davis
Ahhh great catch! I agree with your post then, gotta think the LB field at Florida is getting too crowded. I thought the same thing with Texas A&M and Mike Mitchell (I believe they have 4 or 5 LB commits already for the 2013 class at last count) before Mitchell cancelled his visit. I saw in at least 2 or 3 Mitchell interviews (and he doesn't do many) that the #1 thing he was looking for in a school was a chance at early playing time. My guess is Johnson (like the majority of recruits) sees the same thing in OSU.
This is beginning to look like Florida and A&M know (either from the recruits themselves or other information) that Johnson and Mitchell are/will be Buckeyes. In effect, they are replacing them with other recruits because they know they won't get them.
I wonder if this fifth LB commit to Florida has any effect (or is a telling sign) on Hearns possible flip. A LB haul of Mitchell, Johnson, and Hearns would probably be exactly what the doctor ordered for our LB depth.
Trey Johnson's coach has told Miles that an announcement at the Under Armour game Jan 4th is a possibility.
I wrote a few days ago that this was a possibility

Trey's coach said he will likely be announcing at the UA game next month so it will be nice to see him put on an tOSU hat. IMO between Trey and Mitchell it would not surprise me if theyve already committed and Urban told them to do it on national tv to get more publicity for our program.
Edit: Derek beat me to it haha
Sounds like you and many others are going to be right Derek. Seems as if the coaches are telling them to announce at these All Star games. Pretty good idea considering Raekwon and others have hinted this is how they'll be committing in 2014. Setting some trends with "big name" recruits for the future...excellent.

For V Bell, given the dead period, the announcement at the all-star game would be great.
Otherwise, count me as a wet blanket for all-star announcements. To me it's nonsense to say that a later announcement is better or more impactful than an earlier announcement. Early commitments are momentum builders. Period.
mitchell, johnson and bell. that would make my year start out right. add in quick and timmons.
pLEAse people, leggo Timmons, he wont even get an offer. He is plan C, behind Corn Elder as a plan B.
In 'Mind of Mike' today, Rivals analyst Mike Farrell called Trey Johnson a virtual lock to Florida.
Kind of caught me off guard. Thoughts?
Mike Farrell is an idiot. Just the other day he tweeted that OSU was the team to beat for Johnson
I thought he was great in Elf/:

Just because he doesn't think the kid is going to OSU does not make him an idiot...he is very respected in recruiting circles and has a lot of knowledge. Things change all the time with 17/18 year old kids.
He's an idiot because Florida has either 3 or 4 LBs in their class. They have 24 recuits currently so it would be odd to take that many LBs and he has been positive and visited at tOSU. I think people are calling him an idiot because he's calling him a virtual lock when it seems he is anything but.
EDIT: Didn't read below and saw he changed it, but I was reffering to him saying Florida is a lock not that he is an idiot overall.
Chicago - 1) thanks for the downvote! 2) Take a look at his twitter feed now. 3) Tell me if he is still an idiot. 4) Way to jump the gun...again, not everyone is against OSU. 5) Happy New Year.
1) didn't downvote, I don't downvote opinions, I only downvote trolls and asshole comments 2) I don't do twitter think its dumb 3) Still didn't look because I don't care 4) You can analyze my statement anyway you want and I never said that he was against OSU did I? Thanks for taking the statement from above and putting it in mine. I had simply taken the fact that it was reported his Twitter had Florida as the leader and I was telling you why he wasn't. 5) Even with your sarcasm I will still wish you a Happy New Year
He's an idiot period. He's always had it in for OSU and says things without backing it up. He never provides any details or explains himself when he makes comments like that. How does he think Johnson is a lock to Florida if they already have 4 LBs and OSU has none? Lets say it is indeed true, does that mean he thinks James Hearns will flip to OSU?
You have to realize this guy likes to play games
Hey Weimerad - Is Mike still an idiot now that he has fixed his typo? Now that he says he is a lock for OSU, is he still an incompetent moron? Please explain...
(thanks for correcting...didn't want to be that guy)
your safe, Weimrad is already that guy!!
Was that on his podcast or in the article because I am not seeing it in the article?
Casey
Mike just said that was a typo and he has now fixed the article. Per his twitter
BUT SOMETHING LEFT HIS FINGERS THAT COULD BE CONSTRUED AS BAD FOR OHIO STATE. THEREFORE HE IS THE BIGGEST OF IDIOTS, THE DUMBEST OF DUMB, THE KING OF THE MORONS.
Thank you for this. If I could up vote I would.

Mike Farrell is far from an idiot. He's as in-tune with what is going on in recruiting as anyone, if not moreso. I remember when Michigan fans were calling him an idiot for saying EJ Levenberry was going to FSU. I still see people calling him out, claiming he said Stefon Diggs would go to OSU - which he never did and always said Diggs-to-OSU was a longshot.
He knows what he's doing.
Well articulated, I agree with everything you said. Farrell is one of the best in the business.
The fuss about his comments on Levenberry was because he said that FSU was the leader a day after Levenberry said Michigan was #1. He ended up choosing FSU because they offered the major concentration he was interested in (Cyber Criminology, I believe). Anyway, not that Michigan fans loved Farrell to begin with, but it was Farrell's pompass attitude when basically stumbled into a pick where Levenberry ended up.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
He may be a bit pompous, but he knew. It takes a lot of balls to say a recruit will go to another school than the one in which he just proclaimed his leader. He didn't stumble into anything. He knew (and he put a lot of his reputation on the line) and Michigan fans just didn't want to hear it.
When Mike Farrell talks, listen. So if he had said Trey Johnson was a lock to Florida (glad to hear it was a typo), I would have put a lot of stock in that rather than calling him an idiot.

Predicting where a kid is going to college is hard. Even if you have solid sources they can change there mind in an instant. I just dont like it when they say its solid and then they get it wrong and make excuses as to why. Just man up and I feel like Mike has done that in the past.
Casey
well....this escalated quickly. im glad to hear it was a typo. as i said above, it kind of just caught me off guard initally.
That did escalate quickly...and Brick killed a guy with a trident
I think you guys are looking for this:
Nothing like a GIF to really hit the point home...
Okay, so please forgive me as I can not pull up twitter at work, but is Farrell retracting his statement then that Trey is a lock to Florida or?
Typo, he switched #Florida with #OhioState
rivals mike is number 1 yea. He owns these other recruiting guys minus bill greene

Ehhh...either way, Buckeyes or Gators, at some point Farell has to make a claim, prediction, statement, or else there's no sense in listening to him. I agree that he's in-tune and probably gets a lot of leads that others don't, but I've seen him be wrong enough to simply take his viewpoint as another opinion and nothing more. For example, he had (sorry) Anzalone decommitting from ND and on his way to Gainesville. Never happened, of course. I think visits, history, and depth charts are just as good, if not better, litmus tests for guessing how an impressionable teenager will choose his college of choice.
Still, it's Farell's job and the pomposity just gets him more readers. Give him some credit, too, for being one of the only recruiting analysts to openly call A&M's numbers into question.
I agree with you. I'd also add that in the recruiting business, with the frequency 17 and 18 year old young men/kids change their minds, it's impossible to be 100% certain of almost anything. All he can really do is take his best guess according to trends he's hearing. He seems to get more right than wrong, though, so I think he's worth listening to. Just can't take his word for gospel, as you mentioned. Same thing we do with the guys here. They know more than 99% of us, but recruits do change their minds. Take the Foster situation for example (was apparently telling everyone in his family that he was Pitt, until changing his mind 2 hours before announcing to Bama).
Farrells guess is far more educated than mine but I think its 50/50 with UF and OSU... always tough to get a kid out of the south, especially with offers from some of the SEC/nations best down there... hoping depth gets his attention and he and Mitchell make me a happy camper sooner rather than later, but we all know this recruiting game can be a fickel little punk at times.
