How is this going to play out I can see a few possible transfers after this season.
1. Chris Fields- Going to be a senior and the depth chart is stacked against him... Will he continue to battle it out after a great preformance against Purdue he went back to the bench.
2. Chris Carter- Seems to be buried on the depth Chart
3. Antonio Underwood- Same goes for him
4. Luke Roberts- Although a key oppourtunity is at hand to stake claim at the Middle Linebacker postion I think he is one of the lowest of the group in terms of the coaches opinion. Think Cam Williams, Curtis Grant, and Conner Crowell.
5. Verlon Reed- He cant be happy sitting the bench after starting most of the year in 2011 before the knee injury.

Anything is possible, although I don't think I'd pick any of those listed above. Maybe Reed, although he did play some this season. He may not have been healthy enough to play more. I think we could see an olineman leave, although not Underwood. I'd guess #55 will be the one.
Just my opinion, but seems unlikely that Fields would transfer before his senior year; whats the point?
Also, C. Carter's position change and focus on getting in shape were still new this year, so I dont know that he would have expected much playing time during this transition year. I would think he sees the field a bit next year, especially in short yardage/run stuffing situations.
Reed was on the field quite a bit more late this season than maybe a lot of people noticed. He apparently was one of the better blocking WR's, because I would always notice him come across the screen after one of Braxton or Hyde's runs.
He was new to the WR position when he came to OSU, and was progressing into possibly the top wideout in the program before his injury in '11. I'm sure his rehabilitation during the early stages of Urban/Marotti's offseason workouts and then spring practice didn't help him gain time up the depth chart. He's basically just now going to get his first full offseason in the system (and Meyer has mentioned several times that he tends to set the fall depth charts based on spring production, which then don't tend to change much).
I wouldn't be surprised to hear a lot of noise this spring about Verlon and him possibly becoming one of the top 3-4 WR's on the roster.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
Rumors in the Bucknuts Boarding House has Chris Carter leaving the program. Also earlier in the year they said they expected Fields to transfer too but that was before he started playing well so we'll see with that.
Cardale Jones I think would be on the list. He has seemed pretty unhappy for a long time.
He can transfer to LSU so he doesn't have to play school anymore.

Blake Thomas is a name I've heard.
I thought that he'd be a candidate to transfer, but I read in an interview with someone (a prospect who visited with Thomas as his host, I think), that Thomas is loving it here.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Pure speculation on my part, but if I had to guess who might exit:
Darryl Baldwin, Chris Carter, Verlon Reed, Antonio Underwood
I've heard some who think Joel Hale and JT Moore could also be possibilities
Highly doubt Baldwin transfers. Coaches love his potential on the o-line and he has tremendous size and athleticism.
The names I have been hearing are Chris Carter and Chris Fields.
this is just my opinion, and I hate to speculate on players leaving the program as I never want anyone to leave, but it is what it is:
QB- Cardale Jones
WR- Chris Fields, Verlon Reed
TE- Blake Thomas
OL- Pat Elflein, Tommy Brown, Darryl Baldwin
DL- Chris Carter, JT Moore
LB- Luke Roberts
DB- Ron Tanner
I don't think Cardale has a future in the program.
I hope you're wrong. He is a guy I'd like to see on the field.
Me too - but I can see him taking off. With Braxton, JT, & whoever 2014 brings, he has a tough road to hoe for pt...we'll see. I think he has so much potential but just don't know that he'll ever fit UFMs system...
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
KG is a senior, right? It seems Cardale transferring could be a problem for us if that is the case because KG is definitely a really good backup QB (see end of purdue game).
I think KG was a junior this year, senior next year
Should be interesting. Didn't Meyer say that he was surprised at how few transferred when he came here, and then he found out how much these guys love OSU? Considering how tightly bonded this team was after this year, I wonder how many would want to leave, unless their noses are really out of joint/just kills them at their lack of playing time in the past and future. What would bother me is if there are guys who want to stay/be productive/bust their butts but get pushed out the door, SEC style.
Being an underclassman, a true Buckeye at heart and knowing you probably won't see the field but may win a National championship in 2013 0r 2014, could make leaving a very very tough decision.
FWIW: I've heard from some of his friends that JT Moore has been getting discouraged at his lack of playing time, especially after the huge spring that he had.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
With 2, possibly 3, starters graduating this year he should get his shot next year.
J.T. Moore sucked, but due to untimely injuries across the defensive front and other calamities, he actually did see some time in games this year which I thought would never happen. Given how long he's been with the program I don't see him leaving. There is no benefit for him, however it gives us another open scholly.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Unless I missed it somewhere, nobody has mentioned one of the many good running backs. We're surely going to lose a couple of them at least over the next season or so.
D. Anthony
The only one I see even considering it is Warren Ball, but I don't think that happens. Kid is a buckeye to the core
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Agreed. Should be a huge factor in 2/3 years.
/Duff'd It
Why would warren ball leave after just one redshirt year?
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Yeah I dont get it either...
not really sold on too many players transfering, at least until after spring ball. One thing Meyer presses is competition and as we have seen, those who can play will play. Really think these guys are sold on that and will at least compete through spring ball. Fields gets chances to shine so I dont think hed leave. If there are some transfers I wouldnt expect the number to be more than a few with the potential for 2013 to be a big year for the Buckeyes.
I think Chris Carter has a big opportunity, if Hankins leaves to become a first round pick. If he puts in the work this winter and spring, he could fill the role Hankins vacates. We have a lot of larger defensive tackle types in Schutt, Hale, Price, and even Washington, but only Carter brings the 330 to 350 pound bulk that Hankins uses to demand double teams. Of course, just being big isn't enough to get you on the field, but he did get some reps this year.
Could be the problem and the reason that we never saw Carter in meaningful minutes this past year though...he never put in the work to get better and people are passing him by. I would expect to see more of Schutt/Washington/Bennett and maybe a bit of Carter if Hank leaves. Granted, I'm just speculating.
I like MATT's post. Carter has the body type to replace Hankins should he leave, but it would take alot of hard work to make it to where Hankins is physically, let alone developmentally. Remember, Carter is still a converted O-line project with a chequered past. I would love for him to beast-out and be even better than Hank, but it might take some time. Depending on the defensive situation, don't be surprised to see Carter play as much as Schutt,/Washington/Bennett. If Carter dedicates himself over this offseason as much as Hankins did a couple yrs ago, he could possibly surpass that level of production.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Why leave? If the bucks win the national championship, even 4th string tightend's get a ring
~Because we couldn't go for three~
1) If you are competitive you hate sitting on the bench even if your team is great and 2) A lot of these guys still think (possibly rightfully so) that they have a future in football. And getting on the field to be seen at a smaller school is certainly better for those guys than sitting on the bench at Ohio State. Look at Joe Flacco, if he had stayed riding the pine at Pitt he probably would never be where he is now.
Fields won't transfer he's a senior and with Stoney gone he'll most likely get a lot more PT.
Carter will have a good opportunity to get in the rotation at DT next year although idk if he'll ever be in shape enough to play a full games worth of snaps. He could be a big contributer on short yardage situations.
JT Moore makes sense to me with our D line depth thats only getting deeper and his lack of playing time
If I had to guess one more maybe one of the young LBs who is not happy with playing time or gets stuck behind some people. Its hard to speculate just based off of playing time though
Regarding Carter, word around the program in the spring was that the coaches were very enthusiastic about his future and loved how he moved at his immense size.
But they just don't think he has the heart, or the mean streak if you will, to play at the competitive level that OSU will play at. I'm expecting him to not be with the team next year. He might surprise me though. It's rarely good to see guys leave the program.
JT Moore. Maybe Crowell after the spring. The defensive coaches seem very excited about Carter.
cardale jones. i guarantee urban meyer has 'the talk' with him. piss poor attitude on life.
I assume your basing this off his one tweet? If so, your judgement is a bit premature don't you think? I know for a fact Cardale actually does go to class every day and he is actually doing decent, who actually enjoys class? Yeah the tweet was a mistake, but it by no means signifies a "piss poor attitude on life." I've heard he tears it up in workouts, up to 6'5 250 and can throw it a country mile
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
We do need to be careful.... I remember the speculation that Rod Smith would transfer. I am very glad he didn't. He has Beanie Wells potential, in my opinion.
Respectfully,
Larryp713
In perspective, that speculation was supported by a discussion from Urban to Rod and his father. It wasn't speculation, it was in motion. That talk though put a fire under Rod and made him improve, so if a player is in that situation and "the talk" with Urban doesn't light a fire under them then the talk was spot on. If it does, the talk was still spot on andthe player will turn a corner. Either way... the speculation helps the situation.
Information in today's boarding house at 247 about rumors of Cardale Jones exploring a possible transfer to YSU. Still very far off, but that's a possibility. Also mentioned Jones possibly going to Kent State or Toledo. Same source said that he's a guy that the OSU staff wants to keep though.
Edit: Paywalled info, but hopefully the summarization does not cause issues. It seems everyone has different ideas of what to do here, but no infringement was intended. Edit/delete as necessary if there is any issue.
Carter is definitely one to keep on eye on.
I don't look at transfers as a bad thing. If someone isn't happy about where they are, why would you want them to stay there? The last thing you want is unhappy people in the lockerroom. Besides, 99% of people transfer due to lack of playing time. If they aren't playing, the on-field product certainly doesn't suffer. Lastly, if they leave, it opens up scholarships for talented players that WANT to be Buckeyes. When you add all those things up, having players transfer can't be looked at as a bad thing.
