This is the third time that the punter (Hagerup) has been suspended...must be a bit of a punk.
3 suspensions should definitely = boot from the team...geeze, what's it gonna take to get kicked off a team? It's as if he's trying to get the boot, (No pun intended)
the third time? i remember him being suspended against alabama, but can't think of another instance. probably a punk though. hoke also suspended the best non-injured corner that ttun has, as well as a special team duty LB. at least he sticks by his word, regardless of the game or circumstance. this, however, will make scUM's overrated pass defense even worse
I like making fun of Brady Hoke as much as the next guy, but I have to admit he doesn't seem to be afraid of punishing his players before big games. Have to respect him for that.
It has a lot to do with it. Even Meyer said himself that he takes in to account how the law handles it. These coaches try to make these teachable moments. They are not going to totally sh*t on a kid to make an extra point about how privileged they are.
Its not like he was suspended for a game against Akron...it was a nationally televised game against the #1 team in the country. I think that carries more weight than missing 2-3 games against MAC and 1-AA schools.
I see your point, and I'm not saying it needed to be more, per se, I'm just arguing that anyone that questions that decision has some warrant to do so.
Buckeyevstheworld - i think he would. he benched toussaint against bama (not that he would have helped them much, and he had a bad year). but coming off of last year's 1000+ rushing yards and slightly under double digit TD's while sharing carries with denard, that's decent. i think most of those studs are good kids that don't get in trouble in the first place, but hoke is nothing if not [fat and] consistent
A DUI and he benched him for one game. He put his life and others in danger, and Hoke thought that was worth a one game suspension. He had to suspend him or else he would've lost absolutely all respect, but only suspending him for one game was a joke. AJ Green got four games for selling his own damn jersey, but a DUI is one game? That's a slap on the wrist, not a punishment.
Not under the new regime. Stoney and Mewhort missing the whole summer of some little stuff shows that Meyer isn't being lenient, like, and I do hate to say it, Tressel was.
He proved his worth with Frank Clark. It was easy to see why he was sure to keep him on the team and in the lineup as he is the best defensive player they have. What's a felony arrest when he is needed on D?
He looked to be their best defender against OSU. Ask Braxton how he played. He hammered him a few times and was around the ball as much as anyone. Do not know about the rest of their season but he looked awfully good against us.
Jake Ryan was head and shoulders their best defensive player. As a comparison, Clark did have 2 TFLs, including a sack, and 4 total tackles in the game against us.
For the season,
Clark: 25 total tackles, 9 TFLs, 3 PBUs, 1 forced fumble, and 2 sacks.

Hagerup was suspended against OSU a few years ago, wasn't he?
I hate scUM but I am so sick of this SEC crap and would love to see them roll SC.
They were going to lose even if they had all 3.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I like making fun of Brady Hoke as much as the next guy, but I have to admit he doesn't seem to be afraid of punishing his players before big games. Have to respect him for that.
The question is would he do the same if it were Denard, Gardner, Roundtree, or Ryan?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
That is an unfair question because it seems that most of those guys seem to be positive members of the football team.
Fitz was suspended earlier this year vs Alabama...
for a game, after he put his and others' lives in danger
You forget, Johnny Law also had his way with Fitz...its not like he walked away clean.
Which has nothing to do with how he's dealt with as a priveleged scholarship member of the football program

I think that is an agreeable point.
Agreed
They have a proficient backup punter, Hawthorne doesn't play, and JT Floyd is the worst player on that defense. I think they'll be ok

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
The NCAA suspended Green. We have had players that have had DUI's and alcohol related offenses that got off relatively easy.

Missing summer workouts is a lot different than missing actual playing time.
I would like to agree with you but neither one of those guys got suspended for a game. Kind of a different topic/situation.

I completely agree, except that he's certainly not the best defensive player on the field. But the key is that they needed him out there

Ryan: 54 tackles, 15 TFLs, 3 PBUs, 5 forced fumbles, and 4.5 sacks.
Clark is definitely a solid part of that defense, but far from the best
Did Clark miss many games for the transgression? I can't remember but it seemed no more than a couple.
Just Bama
I'm always curious to know what the "team rules" are that were violated. Maybe they suggested a non-buffet joint for a team dinner?
Class of 2010.
That or they took the last drumstick.

Thanksgiving at the Hoke household.

"Team Rules Violation" in Hokes eyes is cutting him in line at the buffet

Well, I think whatever slim chance ttun had of winning just evaporated. Is it too late to change my pick?

I see my "fan" is back. I would love to know who you are. Internet tough guys are the best.
