It seems all signs point to positive for Cliffton Garrett now. With Ohio State standing at the top of all 3 big linebacker recruits in the 2014 class. 1. Garrett (watch his highlight tape if you have not yet) by far the hardest hitter we are recruiting. 2. Dante Booker (seems like a heavy buckeye lean) 3. Raekwon McMillan (OSU leads) why would we be trying to rebuild a relationship with Michael Ferns.... OSU should recruit the hell out of those three and set up fall backs with a couple 4 star linebackers and call it a day at that position. It seems like it will take ALOT of energy to get Ferns back on the fence about the two schools (scUM and OSU)

IMO, forget Ferns... If we landed those 3, itd be the best LB class in the country and maybe in OSU recruiting history...even 2 of the 3 would be insane.
If we land all 3 definitly the best in the country. IMO if we get two of the 3 its about the same as this years class if OSU gets Trey and Mitchell

It might take some energy but if I'm not mistaken Ferns was one of the first 2014 players offered and maybe the second LB after McMillan. Kids got talent and Urban knows it. Worth a shot in my mind to lock up the major instate talent.
Couple things to point out.....
1. It's certainly not a lock that OSU will land Garrett (his first name is Clifton by the way, not Clifford). While OSU is currently at the top of his list, he has real interest in Notre Dame, MSU, Oklahoma and a desire to play in the south. When SEC schools start to offer watch out.
2. It's not a 100% certainly that Booker will be a part of the 2014 class, and it will the decision of the coaching staff and not Booker. Booker clearly has OSU at the top, but I personally believe that the staff lists Booker as the #3 LB Ohio behind Ferns and Kyle Berger. Alot of people are saying that while Booker has great talent, he is very raw and will be a project at the next level. Ferns and Berger are more complete players.
3. Let's not forget about Kyle Berger. You have to think he will eventually give his commitment, which could be a factor in the recruitment of Booker and/or Garrett. While there could be 4 LBs taken in the 2014 class, I think it will only be 3. And the only player who will have a spot saved is Raekwon McMillan. The other 2 spots will be up for grabs between Garrett, Booker, Berger, Ferns (if he considers flipping), Dillon Bates and a couple others.
I'd take all four. Curtis Grant and Dorian Bell prove that some five stars take awhile to develop or they don't pan out.

I too think its important to lock down the state, if we end up with Berger as the 4th linebacker that would be great. But IMHO film doesnt lie and Clifton is the truth. He and Raekwon are must gets.

Agree that locking the state down is a good thing. But if we get the rep as locking guys down and they end up not seeing playing time, we lose credibility with the HS coaches. If we think the kid is iffy, then better not to string him along (think this may apply to Munger)
don't be so nearsighted, they're also building relationships w/ the coaches and establishing a rapport at the high school level in ohio by being at the championships
Being real they got to the state championship a little early, and had time to check out the game before. Lets not kid ourselfs Urban was there to support Thompson and Burrows

Dante Booker has been all over the field for St. V today. So has his teammate LB Newman Williams. Booker is rated as the top Junior in Ohio, I'd be shocked if they didn't take his commitment when ready. The coaches would be wise to lock him up before he builds a relationship with ND
i got a thread going about this topic. Meyer is at this game. Wouldnt be suprised if he keeps his eye on Newman Williams, going forward.

hope Ferns just goes away, similar to Anza-he-who-shall-not-be-named
Ferns plays in such a small divsion of fotball. Not sure if plays good compettio in his lowere divsion. It like Zaire at Kettering Alter the Gcl north is not as good as was 10 or 15 years ago.
Kids would rather st on the bench at Moller, Elder or St.x then go to Bacon,Pm mor Micniolas.
