I would say maybe we could steal some of their recruits, but i dont think they have anyone we would want. I was just starting to not like Bielema too bad.

I recommend this guy as his replacement at Wisconsin!

“We at the Big Ten don’t want to be like the SEC—in any way, shape or form.” Bret Bielema

I can tell you this. We at the BIG 10 don't want you Bret Bielema. You thought Urban's recruiting at OSU frustrated you. Just wait till Saban comes knocking.

I don't wear shirts.

This confirms it, Arkansas will be the 15th member of the B1G.  Who will be 16?

If this is correct then Bielema is simply running as fast and as far away from Urban Meyer as he can. He KNOWS his days of competing in the B1G for anything more than the Capital One Bowl ended the day Meyer was Hired at Ohio State. See ya Bret, you're an ass...

LOL I FREAKIN FELL OFF MY OFFICE CHAIR! THIS IS AWESOME!!! WISKY TAKES IT ON THE CHIN AND BIELEMA IS GOING TO GET HAMMERED IN THE SEC!!!!

Just got back from lunch and I am in the same state of shock. Holy crap! I'm floored and speachless... Good riddence... but he is a decent coach and I don't want the SEC to get any stronger.

He won't have Arkansas playing at a higher level than Petrino did.

steensn's picture
steensn on 4 Dec 2012 - 5:30pm #

Probably not, but he had Wisconsin playing better than they will under the next coach.

Just depends on who they  hire.  It's a pretty big job really, they could end up pulling in a nice coach.

osu07asu10's picture
osu07asu10 on 4 Dec 2012 - 5:50pm #

Agree totally about him not getting them to play at Petrino's level.  It will be interesting to see who Wisky picks. Bielema was the handpicked successor of their greatest coach.  This is a huge blow to their program IMO.

I think Chryst would be the best hire for them. Not rocking the boat, notmuch changes, known entity.

Love it. IMO Bielema is running from Urb. Considering his opinion on the SEC (and I agree with him for what it's worth on some of the schools in that conference), it's really interesting that he would rather be down there in the thick of that than here in the Big Ten with only 1 aggressive recruiter.

So he's running FROM Urban to be in the same Division as Saban and Miles?

Set your avi
OldColumbusTown on 4 Dec 2012 - 5:34pm #

I'd argue yes, partially.  He already knows he's competing for 2nd place in Ohio State's division.  Why not compete for 2nd/3rd place in Alabama/LSU's division with a whole lot more cash in his pocket?

Even if he only survives 4-5 years (and I fully expect Bielema to have Arkansas playing solid, if unspectacular football), he'll have earned a bunch of money and should collect a nice buyout.

SEC is willing to pay, take the pay. It is pretty easy decision. Who wants to live in Wisc anyways?

steensn's picture

What do you mean? It isn't like it is the middle of Arkansas, it's in the upper left. He can go on drivable vacations to Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas... oh... wait... I just made that worse...

So they opened an airport in the area there called Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.  It's airport code is XNA.  They believed calling it XNA for Exciting New Airport, would draw interest to the area and investment/development.  Nice try Fayetville, nice try!

Actually, Little Rock is very nice.  I go there on business a few times a year and the city is great.  Friendly people, great places to eat and easy to get around.

^ There are more 4 and 5 star players to go around in the SEC. Meyer and Hoke (for now) have a monoply on Ohio HS and B1G area talent. Bielema is obviously not a good recruiter, but you can only sign so many kids, even in the SEC where over signing is a common practice, so Bielema will have more talent than he's EVER had at Wisconsin simply by taking 'Bama, LSU and Fla's leftovers...

btalbert25 on 4 Dec 2012 - 5:39pm #

Yeah, but A&M is on their turn now, Auburn is going to be a very good destination with their new Coach, Tennessee probably becomes a better school recruiting wise when they hire their new coach.  There are going to be more than just 2 schools competing with him recruiting wise.  That's what he has in the B1G.  In the SEC he'll have no less than 7 other programs that are better than his competing for talent.

I think he is running from UFM, but I also think this looks bad for the B1G.  He leaves Wisky for a lateral football school at best.

Just got home from work and saw this I am stunned over this to be honest. This looks like a lateral move at best esp with only competing with tOSU for a spot in the championship game every year now you go and compete with Bama, LSU, A&M..............good luck with all that Bret.
