Florida got the commit of LB Matt Rolin which all but guarantees Trey Johnson to Ohio State in my view. His coach had told us that he was now focused on Ohio State and Florida, and I just can't see Florida having the space.
I think there's about 6 spots left, if they can get the guys they want to take those spots.
I tweeted it earlier, but think the next 3 commits could all be linebackers. I'm going to go out on a limb (not really) and say Mike Mitchell is a Buckeye before the end of the week. I think OSU and Worley is a done deal, but waiting for the right time. Right after Mike Mitchell verbally commits publicly could be the time. With UF filling up, and OSU getting 2 LB's real quick would certainly put the heat on Trey Johnson to pledge to Ohio State as well to guarantee a spot.
I think Johnson has a spot, no matter what. This ensures it getting done in the time they want it done.
2 of other 3 spots are probably saved for WR I would think. Quick and Gibson are the preferred options. If not them, Timmons and Elder are also still available.
Vonn Bell still out there for the taking too. Not sure if the Butch Jones hire impacts things or not.

I apologize if my post seemed disrespectful, I didn't mean for it that way. I share your optimism and you have provided many insights into recruiting that I respect. Keep up the good work Derek! Much appreciated.

If Worley hasn't already given Urban his silent verbal (good chance he has just to reserve a spot) then he better soon. I think if Mitchell and Johnson commit before Worley, he very well may lose a spot
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Any truth to Bell choosing on Weds?
Doubt it he said he would announce after his season and they play next weekend
5 Spots left and we finish it off like this, in this order...
1 Mike Mitchell
2 Christopher Worley
3 Trey Johnson
4 Shelton Gibson
5 James Quick
David Dawson is headed back to Michigan IMO
In a perfect world it would look like this:
1. Mike Mitchell
2. Trey Johnson
3. Vonn Bell
4. James Quick
5. Dawson/Gibson
The scary thing is, this is possible (Dawson is unlikely but replace him with Gibson and it could happen)
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I actually think your pics are going to be accurate but would actually prefer an Olineman than 2 more WR or another DB. If OSU can get Dawson or flip another Olineman, I would want that more than Worley or 2 WR. Although it is very likely to happen like you say.
I ultimately would like as the best possible five: Bell, Mitchell, Quick, Dawson and Johnson. Fills need and great depth at what could be the weakest positions on the team. Now if Munger switches to Oline, then Dawson will have to go elsewhere and bring on Worley, Gibson, Elder or even Redfield. Wouldn't hate Timmons either.
I could see us turning up the heat on Redfield should Bell pledge to Bama.
still wouldnt sleep on Korrin Wiggins either just not convinced that Redfield isnt lobbying for an offer just to have one
I forgot to add Bell to my list (yes, I know how do you forget Bell) So I think its....
1 Mike Mitchell
2 Christopher Worley
3 Trey Johnson
4 Vonn Bell
5 Shelton Gibson
6 James Quick
I really dont think Bama leads, we do!
THIS^ list from Urban Can Recruit above (and boy ain't that the truth right?). This class could finish on Top to be honest...if more keep flocking out of USC commitments as well as others not getting a finishing haul like OSU's. Could be a nice Late Christmas Present;-) I'm happy already...

I think Mike is a buckeye by Tuesday at the latest. Worley makes the call by the weekend as he sees the class building up. Trey Johnson pledges halfway to the end of next week. Bell makes his decision in 2 weeks. Then I see Shelton pledging before his all-star game and quick at his all-star game. Then we start on 2014 ; )
1. Mitchell
2. Worley
3. Johnson
4. Gibson
5. Elder
I think the 6th spot could be a surprise. I want to be wrong, but i dont think bell and quick will be buckeyes. The addition of munger means dawson likely isnt coming. I wouldnt put it past meyer and co. to pull a wildcard out within the next 60 days.
I think the staff is smart, and if they were a little doubtful on Bell, they'd have the heat turned up on Redfield already, and they don't......
That's telling to me.
I like your line of thinking.
Thanks for the recruting "news." Even if it's not official news, it's oh so fun to read. We definitely like hearing the latest on how you guys see things working out.
Thanks for all the info and the posts, I think I can speak for most of the readers when I say we love hearing the inside info and opinions of the 11W staff on where we stand with the recruits.
Agreed kinda had the same thought when people were freaking out about not offering Redfield. I was told by some posters that they wanted both, but I can't see us taking that many DBs with LB and WR still in need of some assistance.
Forum posts like this, are what makes me love this site so much. Thank you Derek for working so hard and giving us gems like this.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
1.) Mitchell
2.) Johnson
3.) Gibson
4.) Worley
5.) Quick
6.) the surprise flip Alex has talked about.
I agree but would add Bell. I'm also very interested to know who the surprise flip may be.
1. Mitchell
2. Johnson
3. Gibson
4. Quick
5. Herschel Walker (hey, he's still got one more year of eligability iirc and the man stays in very good shape!)
Good one with # 5...he's good at MMA lately I've noticed.

Korrin Wiggins as a legit option probably tells us where the staff thinks they're at with Bell. He's Bamma bound.
Where did you see Wiggins was an option other than the fact he visited once? I think you'd see the staff push for Redfield if they thought Bell was gone, since he seems to be the better safety prospect and has listed us as a place he wants to visit. I'm not saying Bell is OSU bound, but he sure as hell isn't a lock to either team at this point

Florida also just got the recommittment of an OL so hopefully they're running out of scholarships.
If A&M and Georgia are anything to go by, I'm starting to think in the SEC they cap it at around 40 recruits per incoming class haha.
Texas AtM is going after a full 2 deep roster on offense and a future starting defensive unit. 30+ offers..... sheesh!
They only have 79 scholarship players, and their class was 19 last year. They can have 6 early enrollees and count them to the 2012 class would would give them 25 for 2012, and put them at 85. It depens on how many guys graduate, leave early or transfer for the February signing day total. So while the class is 30, they may n ot oversign at all.
This is from back in June, but it's a good breakdown. I just looked it up after putting the numbers on here. At the least they'll be able to take 29 and at most 31.
http://www.themidnightyell.com/2012/06/breaking-down-numbers-in-class-of...
Ridiculous. And the college football media, looking away, follows an imaginary bird in flight....
As I said above, they have at least 5 early enrollees, that will count to the 2012 class. They only had 79 scholarship players last year, and 19 in their class. Essentially, Ohio State can do the exact same thing if they had open schollies and early enrollees.
So we're in great position for 3 5 stars (according to Scout)... not bad, not bad at all.
4-6 seconds of relentless effort
... so this means Timmons is pretty much out? #sadface really wanted that kid in S&G

Kid is going to be a really really good college player. I bet he goes to UK and ends up being a star there.
wish him the best wherever he ends up. just too bad we can't take 'em all, because you know i would!!! haha

How long does Worley have sit on the sidelines waiting for others to commit? It would just seem that he's the one position-wise and priority-wise who they could wait out. If they want, Bell, Mitchell, and Quick are all in, no questions asked. Gibson is obviously an academic situation, but Worley seems to have been told to wait once. Will it happen again? Not a rant/judgement by any means, just curious as to how this whole thing plays out.
I really, REALLY want Bell but I just don't think it's going to happen. Maybe I'm just a little gun shy from the Tressell years. Same with Quick. He leaves after The Game and still names Louisville his leader? I would be pleasantly shocked if he came here.
I think we get:
and maybe a surprise or Timmons
The only guy I want more than Bell is Mitchell. Still have a shot to land both...
"The revolution will be televised."
I'm right there with you. I don't think we have anyone like Bell and would love to get him.
Sharrif Floyd...he just hurt us all so much...
me gusta updates!!! Things gonna heat up with NSD less than two months away baby!!!!
Really want Trey Johnson/Mike Mitchel in this class. Frankly, I don't have that good of a vibe on James Quick, reckon it will probably end up like this: Johnson, Mitchell, Bell, Gibson and some suprise.
FWIW, I would really love to see Ryan Timmons in this class/offense.
Help is on the way.
I really wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't get quick or gibson. With conley getting a shot at receiver that gives a 3 wr's in this class.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
I'd like to see 1 more WR in this class. We need speed across the whole field. Gibson or Quick would give us that extra burst. Marshall will be in the slot and in the backfield. Probably the same for Zeke. I think Jacobs gets a redshirt because of size. Coach Mick will need to put 20lbs on him.
Urban is amazing at recruiting and he is putting in another top class. Some of these recruits may be a silent verbal right now and they want to play the hat game at the all-star games. That is alright by me because I like to hear The Ohio State University announced. I know Floyd broke some hearts when he announced that he flipped. Go Bucks.
