The second to last update to the Rivals 100 gets updated at noon ET, which doesn't really matter, but let's be honest, we all need dumb stuff to distract us from the actual important daily tasks, it's human nature. With that, here's a review of the previous rivals 250, and I'll bump with updates when the new 100 and 250 lists are released this week.
Commits: All 4 star
- Bosa #25 - 6.0 (UPDATE: #51)
- Burrows #27 - 6.0 (UPDATE: #31)
- Woodard #29 - 6.0 (UPDATE: #28)
- Marshall #53 - 6.0 (UPDATE: #42)
- Hill #103 - 5.9
- Lisle #104 - 5.9
- Elliott #120 - 5.9 (UPDATE: #77)
- Barrett #124 - 5.9
- Baugh #146 - 5.9
- Price #160 5.8
- Thompson #195 5.8
UNRANKED: All 3 star
Gardner 5.5, Jacobs 5.7, Lee 5.7, Sprinkle 5.6, Lewis 5.8
Targets within 250:
- Mike Mitchell #32 moves to #30
- Trey Johnson #80 moves to #86
- D. McMillian #82 moves to #93
- Shelton Gibson #85 moves to #98
- Dave Dawson #165
- V Bell #171
- Kenny Lacy #175
- Quick #182
- Hearns #183
- Elder #215
Predictions: Look for Tracy Sprinkle to get a bump, though he won't be in the new 100, so we won't know until later this week. Bosa won't get his 5th star this time, but look for it to come in the final update after a solid all-star game performance. I wouldn't be surprised to see Zeke Elliott move into the top 100. Rivals analyst Marc Givler has had a chance to see Lisle and Price play this year, as well as Thompson, so a move up for these guys could be in the works.
Barrett may drop due to injury, and I predict that Burrows drops a bit. After some insane performances during the season, Marshall may move back towards regaining his 5th star, but I doubt it. Don't be surprised to see a large number of our commits drop a few spots a piece, this is the part of the year where establishing yourself early and staying consistent means that late bloomers can jump guys late in the process. Remember, dropping up to 20 spots is basically splitting hairs in recruiting.
UPDATE (12:15 ET 12/3):
- To summarize, Bosa drops 26 spots due primarily to injury, nothing to worry about.
- Woodard jumps one spot, and Burrows falls four as predicted, neither are significant.
- Marshall jumps 11 spots, as expected, not worth much, but shows that he's proved himself a little more during the season.
- Elliott, as predicted, leaps into the the top 100 at number 77.
- Shuffling with the non-committed guys isn't significant enough to mention. We'll find out more later in the week.

I can see you put a lot of work into this, I'm excited for the release as well. I agree that Elliott will get a boost into the top 100. I think Sprinkle gets his 4th star and into the Rivals250. I would also hope that Vonn Bell gets a little boost (shockingly low)
I agree about Bell, actually meant to add that, but never got to predictions about non-commits: Surprised that he doesn't get more attention from rivals because they tend to put more emphasis on southern guys. Mike Farrell is their lead analyst, and he definitely favors the south as far as exposure
Thanks for the info BuckI.8!
Urban will land a few more elite guys & end up with another ridiculous class. 2014's class will be Ridiculous X2. He will have to turn guys away next year!
Yeah, I've seen that rating of Bell and compared it to Scout and ESPN; just doesn't seem to compute, but that's what different rating systems are all about. Can't help but wonder if his mild-mannered, mature, non-showy approach to his recruitment doesn't work against him a bit. Who knows?
I think if Bosa can get healthy before all-star games, he'll flourish with O-lines not able to double team him. Elliot should shoot up. Rivals has been watching him closely.
You should consider using the 247 composite rankings since they combine the different rating systems.
I do, but it's still interesting to follow the changes of individual agencies. I won't list composite rankings because they're so saturated
I agree I like the composite rankings for overall but I also like to know the individual. Besides, the individual ones make up the composite and for nerds like me the data is interesting. Each group has their own benefits and drawbacks, like 247 actually doesn't have a single west coast scout, wonder how that effects west coast talent rankings.
Looks like Elliott moved up to # 77.
Really interesting, but, scouting rankings really drive me nuts with their haphazard approach. I mean VBell is #171 here, but #28 on Scout. That's not really splitting hairs in my opinion. Look at his offer sheet people. Saying there are 15 better safeties this year is an absolute joke. And Quick at #182? Papa please!

It's hard to call anything this insignificant "haphazard" haha.
That being said, it's basically just betting your professional perception on kids' success, which sounds pretty low, and kinda is, but whatever. Rivals sees other services high on Bell, decides to take the low end. In the end, if Bell doesn't pan out, Rivals can sit back and say "we saw it first", and they get respect. It's a sport.
wow big drop for Bosa. I'm sure that will come up in the chat at 3PM EST
Also, how is Shane Morris still a five star? "Morris missed three games due to mono, but in six games he completed 62 of 113 passes for 738 yards and six touchdowns"
Edit: To be fair, I know the effects of mono can be long-lasting and I don't know the type of offense that his team runs.
I noticed that too, Shane Morris is a bum those stats are horrid
Northland Grad 2006
All City 03/04/05 Baseball
All City 04/05 Football
D 2 Saginaw Valley State University.
Nice to see a lot of Buckeyes on the list and buckeye hopefuls, but Scout stats don't really do much for me.Depending on who you ask, players could rise or fall, just depends on who your talking to at that time.lol
SCOTTC.
I wonder how many kids they actually go see play. Anyone who has seen multiple kids on this list, more than a few times, should know how terrible these rankings are.
Ive seen most of the committed Ohio kids in person a few times. Burrows should be lower, Thompson and Lee are probably about right, but Sprinkle and Price should be A LOT higher. Marshall is hard to judge because you would have to project how good he will be at a different position than what he played in HS.
The fact that Shane Morris is still a 5 star and Bosa dropped big time really hurts rivals in my book as a trustworthy recruiting site with good talent evaluaters and its not just cuz he's committed to scUM. Its the fact that he is a pure combine QB that had an awful senior season (in terms of a 5 star prospect) when he was actually playing football and not 7 on 7
Well, with the new ranking updates 247 Composite likes us over Mich now.
Max Redfield (#24 overall in Rivals) decommitted from USC and is expressing interest in Ohio State. Would be highest ranked target left on board.
