Do we have any idea which coach is assigned to which territories nationally? And given that a guy with special connections to an area like Withers in the Carolinas, do we send along another coach to make contacts in that area as well, knowing that Withers is probably only here 3 years tops and OSU doesn't want to lose the foothold in that area? Can GAs like Kirk Barton go along on a recruiting trip since they aren't considered a coach? Does Pantoni ever go on recruiting trips or does he just go to large camps and showcases?

The best I could do is say Herman Texas, Withers NC and Coombs Cincy, Vrabel recruits a lot of the D-line and LBs
I've also heard a few stories of Vrabel making trips into Detroit so that may be his territory.
Coombs went to Detroit, too, a week or two ago. He tweeted something about best recruiting day ever and planting the flag, border moving north, etc.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Herman and Withers seem to be the only two that have set areas. Vrabel, Coombs, and Smith go everywhere else, assuming Urban hasn't been dispatched.
I think this offseason is a bit of a special case. Because we do not have bowl practices to attend to our assistants may be double covering some areas.
coaches have territories but buckeye fans are everywhere with a network of spies! We have buckeyes undercover in all the major programs. Why do you think there are so many ex-buckeye head coaches? They deserve it and they are strategically placed to maximize OSU's route the the NC. Hazell will make Purdue a jaugernaut but they will lose to only OSU!
or perhaps the coaches are picked by who might recruit said player the best (defensive coach, defensive player). All I know is I love that Urban still talks to the current commits. Gotta keep the verballed guys happy too.
Zach Smith's area is the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia), I'm pretty sure.
I think Coombs does Indiana too.
FYI: Barton will no longer be a GA for OSU following the fall semester. He graduated with his MBA and from what Tim May from the Dispatch wrote about him, it sounded like he was moving away from coaching and into the corporate world.
Maybe it will be tebow next season...
