Who the heck is gonna punt next year? Buchanan is gone and i dont know of any punters we have other than epitropolous, who wants to play receiver. i know we have Townsend coming in but i dont know if he is good enough/ready yet. Does anyone know of someone on the team currently, maybe a walk-on thats good enough or someone else that could punt?

im pretty confident its gonna be townsend... thats why urbz gave him a scholly
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Kid has a leg and had some really nice directional/placement kicks throughout his year. Correct me if I'm wrong, his team didn't do very well but he was probably the biggest "game changer" on the field.
Obviously things are going to change from HS to college, but from watching video from his senior year, I am confident in his ability to get ti done.
You're right, the coach was even quoted as saying something along the lines of Townsend being one of the key players on their team. Was a "game-changer" in the field position game.

Townsend will play, barring something weird. Punter isn't handled in the same way as, say, the OL. Townsend has recieved top class training for the last two or more years, I wouldn't worry
It will be Townsend. If not, Basil or Epitropolous

We don't plan on punting next season :o)
no need to punt if there is never a 4th down
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
Shit, even if there is 4th down, go for it! :D The whole field is 4-down territory, hah. Love it!
Townsend. Didn't the dude have a pretty good 40 time, and wasn't he heralded as being a true athlete? Can you say fake punts?
Most punters are pretty athletic as they usually turn out to be ex soccer players, but would love to see the Buchanan type fake again.
I wouldnt say most... More like some lol.
I still say most just not the way that most football players are generally. I.E. guys who can throw a spiral or hit hard
Kyle Turano (#86) was a beast. I could be wrong but I believe he had a good fake and definitely lit a return guy up on the sidelines
Yeah, he played MLB in high school for a D1 Ohio state semifinal team. I loved when the other team would block him in kick coverage, they would get lit up.
Also Trepasso was a great athlete based on his production at Pickerington, should have faked more with him. He scored in the NFL preseason on a great fake.
Only thing that makes you wonder about Townsend is that on the highlight video of him I watched, they tracked every punt to around 35-38 yards. I don't watch a lot of HS punter highlight videos though, so that might be the norm. Hopefully by the time he gets some S&C in that average (when not punting on the opponent's side of the field) is up to about 45! And maybe it already is? Can't read that much into highlight videos, just a personal observation from the couple I'd seen. I'd also add that in the highlight videos his form was a bit stiff, I bet with a bit more coaching if his form gets to where they want it to be (assuming it's not already), he can add another 5-10 yards on to his average.
I don't pretend to know crap about the actual game of football, other than its fun to watch... But I suspect the punters only try and kick within a certain range so their guys can cover the returner properly. If you give the returner too much time to gain momentum the chance of making the right cut or being insanely hard to tackle should go up and that could hurt you more. College level special teams possess better players that can cover down field more.
So far every HS game I have watched has exampled some VERY bad kicking(mainly field goal/extra point) so when I see a 3* Punter and Urban puts priority in getting him... I suspect he has a very, very good reason. (Outside of that not having a punter thing.)
They can kick futher for sure, but most people want them to kick 45 yards with good hang time so they have a combination of both distance and time.
I know he was one of, if not the most slaughter after punter in this class...so whatever that means it sounds good unless all the punters were garbage.
"...they're midgits!"-Coach Kerry Coombs
The offense shoul average 70 per game next year.We shouldn't even need a punter till maybe Whisky and that's game #5.GO BUCKS!
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
Well def have a little issues punting, hopefully we won't need to...
no matter how many points the offense scores, a top notch punter is needed.
Punter? When every drive ends with a score you don't need a punter.
as Steve Spurrier once asked, "Who's our kicker again?"
on a scale of 1 (braxton going down with an injury) and 10 (who will be the starting fullback), who will be the punter ranks pretty darn close to 10 on biggest things to worry about in the winter!
between Townsend and Epitropoulos, I think the punting game may actually be better in 2013 than this past year.
The thing I think is cool about Townsend is his set up before the kick. The vast majority of punters take two steps before the kick, but it appears that Townsend only takes one. I'd think that would make him almost impossible to block.
Definitely better than Buchanan's skip and 3 steps.
I have heard often that Buchanan takes to long to get his punts off, maybe that is true. However, EVERY punt that was blocked was due to a missed assignment and the defender running completely free at the punt.
Not necessarily true. His punt blocked in the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas was blocked by a guy being blocked. Also, if he got his punts off in the expected time and he didn't end up 5 yards closer to the LOS, many of the missed assignments would not have resulted in blocked punts.
That's exactly it. Ideally, Buchanan would never have to worry about being blocked, but in college football and in the NFL, a botched blocking assignment doesn't necessarily mean it's an automatic block. In fact, a lot of the time, the punter gets it off and then gets hit, resulting in a first down/continuation of drive. It's another aspect of why having an elite punter can make a huge difference in a game.
Buchanan, on the other hand, was almost getting blocked on assignments that weren't missed, just because he took too long. It's no different that a quarterback with a slow release. No one will make excuses for a QB that takes too long to get rid of it and say it's the fault of his blockers.
