No love for Urban from CBSSports.com

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/21291424/cocoaches-of-the...

I try to be impartial and can certainly see that there are a number of deserving candidates for coach of the year, but to not even list Urban in the conversation is absurd!  Shaw and Kelly share the award and the fan poll doesnt even list Urban.

Hard to believe that UFM didn't even get a mention for COY.

Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!

Anything from Dennis Dodd is bound to slam Ohio State in some fashion.  He is the Mark May of CBSsports.  He has repeatedly bashed Ohio State so I expect nothing less than for him to snub Urban Meyer in his "Co-Coach of the Year".

Your kidding right, I would actually say that he is pretty pro ohio state.  You must of missed the podcast from earlier in the year.

Detroit, I havent listened to the preseason podcast or read a lot from this season, but over the past 10 or so years of following cbssports and reading Dodd, there is no doubt that the man lives up the the Mark May compairison very well!!! No Doubt.

Well for one he didn't put up the poll the website did, then again I don't read his stuff regularly so your probably right.

I have not found Dodd to be anti-OSU or Urban. The guy did slam OSU for all of the tat related stuff and how they handled it all, but who in the media didn't?

Dodd actually comes on the radio down here in Nashville each week and they talk to him about everything college football related, but mostly SEC stuff given our location, but they have discussed Urban Meyer and OSU often and he has never said anything bashing Urban on the air. He mentioned that he in concerned about if Urban can keep up his health and maintain a top level program. He maintains that Urban is one of the best coaches out there and that OSU will be in the discussion every year because of Meyer. Now he has said that he thinks OSU screwed themselves out of a chance at the title this year by not self-imposing a bowl ban last year, but again, everyone's said that.

Since Urban's hiring he has seemed a little more favorable towards tOSU... He certainly was not a sweater vest fan for the past 10 years.

I will agree with you on that.

I hadn't seen any of his stuff pre tat gate so your probably right about that.

Actually following the National Championship, Dodd probably wrote the finest mainstream media article out there defending the pass interference call and the legitimacy of the win.

Is there any way that he doesn't win the award, next year, going from completely unranked (BCS) in 2012, to NC winner in 2013?

Eh, I don't care about COY awards. I care about beating TTUN and winning, I get the feeling that is about where Urban is as well, I'm fine with it. I'd always rather people not care/notice/whatever, shows they hate, and haters never prosper.

I'm with you on this, who cares if CBS sports doesn't have him on their list...He's a finalist for the one people actually care about and pay attention to anyway. The Eddie Robinson COY award. Who gives a rats a** about CBS??

Agreed. I dont care about the CBS "award" - -just scratching my head as to how they dont list Urban in the top five or six.  And after seeing a couple of Cooper teams that were filled with award-winners fall short in bowls and/or against TTUN, yes, Ill take the wins!!

A slight no doubt, but one that we all can take solace in. Coach Meyer wants the team to avoid complacency and it is these sort of slights that can prevent such an attitude. Combine this with the BIG coaches trolling deserving players and you have a recipe for a team with something to prove (see also Shazier tweet). That I think is worth one thousand CBS.com CoY awards.

Ahh, constants.  All that ever was, and all that will ever be.  I always find they keep me grounded, in some way or another:

Force will always equal Mass times Acceleration.

The universe will always continue expanding.

The speed of light will always be 299,792,458 metres per second.

Absolute Zero will always be the −273.15° C, −459.67°F, or 0K; and will always be--theoretically, at least--the lowest possible temperature.

The national sports narritive will always despise Ohio State, either for winning too much--or not enough on the national stage.

Ohio State will always dominate the college football landscape, much to the chagrin of the aforementioned party.

Ohio State's fans will always delight in said butthurt, not giving a good goddamn about anyone who tries to cheapen their team's constant success.

I thought Force was Mass times Velocity squared...

Just double-checked it; at least per Wikipedia, it's F=MA.

Granted, I majored in Communication...so I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong haha.

Ahh, I gotcha.  Yeah, I always forget about acceleration being a third order equation, it's the derivative of velocity, which itself is the derivative of position (with speed being the absolute value of velocity).  Math 152 is coming back to me in full force!

kinetic energy is KE = 1/2 mv^2

units of energy are joules and units of force are newtons = kg x m/s^2, so you can't have F = mv^2

Who cares about these stupid, writer biased awards. Give me Urban Meyer and an undefeated record every year and the other schools can have their "COY awards" and we'll see who's remembered longer.

Hetuck21's picture

If we were not on probation, the conversation would be completely different. Notre Dame would be playing Ohio State for the National Championship. Meyer would be garnering more attention for guiding last year’s debacle of a team to an undefeated season.  The story lines would be Te’o for Heisman and Meyer COY.
Besides, this is CBS (the Confederate Backing Station). They are very proud to be the home of the SEC and proudly assert the conference dominance as much as possible. Tim Brando went into his ‘how is ND going to handle ‘Bama’ as soon as they beat Georgia. He was not even shy about his desire for ND to lose to USC so that they could have an all-SEC NCG again.
Urban wanted things to motivate and keep them angry next year. No Braxton to NYC for the Heisman and no Urban talk for COY. All these “experts” are just making it easy for Urban. The staff won’t have to manufacture too much get the Bucks to be an angry team. There is plenty out there right now and there will be even more thru early January.
