Does anybody else think that maybe, just maybe, some of these guys have given urban a commitment and he's suggested that they announce at the all star games? It's win-win for the recruit and the school. Recruit gets his moment in the spotlight and everybody watching at home gets to see the school land a big fish. Urban used to get all kinds of guys to commit to Florida during those games and it use to drive me crazy seeing the gator chomp so often on national TV
I have been wondering the same thing. Wasn't sure if it was just me rationalizing the situation or not. It would be nice for hiim to committ because others might follow but getting the national coverage on TV is good also.
someone mentioned a few weeks ago that perhaps Urban requests big time recruits to announce at the major all star games to draw attention....this may be the case here... at least I hope

Mitchell did visit A&M (& Oklahoma) unofficially back in October according to 247, so it's not like he hasn't been there, but you have to feel REALLY good about OSU's chances since OSU was his last visit and if he is cancelling his official A&M visit the last weekend before a dead period that goes until January 3rd, and he's announcing the 5th.
Awesome point, Killer Nuts. It would make logical marketing sense for Meyer to ask those players to announce during those games. if any of those players annouced beforehand it would have been easy to overlook them during the game. Now not only do they get their time in the sun but tOSU and the football program gets free advertising and the wow factor. Attending OSU is now the place to be for players who go for that kind of thing (i.e. just about everyone). Meyer is creating the same buzz he created at Florida.

I know this might be conspiracy-ish but I'm one of the people who wouldn't be surprised if this was Urban telling him he should announce at the AA game. Everyone remembers Florida just racking up their commits at those games. Don't forget Urban has a degree in psychology and knows publicity like that is only good for a school.
The AA game used to make me sick to my stomach for that very reason and I barely watched it. Now I feel in the coming years our eyes will be glued to the game every time, every year!
Anyone have an idea of which of our targets are announcing at the all star games? Seems as though there are a few. And I think Urban has the commits in his back pocket. He knows exactly who he has. It is simply a matter of making the public announcements.
I honestly don't believe Urban tells the kids to commit at the games. Committing at the games is a big deal to a lot of these kids because all eyes are on them and they get to do it on National TV. Florida had a lot of guys do it, but Florida also was in on a lot of the top recruits who like to make a spectacle out of their commitments usually.
To me, the coach wants the kid to commit when the kid wants to commit. If you convince a kid to wait 3 or 4 weeks you never know when another coach sneaks in and tells a kid jesus wants you to play for them(I know that's not exactly how it went) but a coach would rather have the commit today than a guy uncommited and getting the full press put on him by Saban, Miles, Kelly, and Urban.
What we're insinuating is the kid might be committed to urban, just not publicly. Even if he came out and said it publicly he could still be getting the "full press" put on by other coaches up until he signs. If he wants to avoid that he can tell the coaches of other schools that he's committed elsewhere and he's no longer interested. But 'announcing' at the all star game is a big deal for some, even if he's 'committed' earlier than we know
You think Urban Meyer, Mr. Power Move, isn't going to capitalize on a mutually beneficial opportunity that will benefit both the player and the program because he is worried about some other coach coming in and taking away a player he's been working on for over a year now? The guy with two national championships who is coming off an undefeated first season with a team that is a perennial national powerhouse? I don't think he plays scared, which is why he is where he is. What you described is not only someone who plays scared, but someone who would fail to take action on a perfect opportunity to generate great press and exposure for the player and the program. I certainly do think that there is a logic that goes into when silent commits make their commitments public and I think Urban Meyer definitely plays a role in that logic.
EVERYONE follows recruiting now, the recruits included. I don't really see how it benefits the program recruiting wise that much if kids wait til the All American game to declare Ohio State. The recruits, from their sophomore years til they actually make their decision to commit take dozens of visits, go to camps, and talk to all the other recruits. It's not like a jr sitting at home watches the All American game and sees several guys(who he already knows and probably knows where they are going to commit anyway) commit to Ohio State and say DAMN, I GOTTA GO THERE!!!!!!!.
The recruiting impact is not always immediate but that doesn't make it non-existent. Being able to associate your program with elite talent at any level is an absolute no brainer, especially when it the most highly publicized high school football event of the year -- an event that people inside and outside the recruiting world pay at least a little attention to. It improves national perception, which is exactly what a program like Ohio State needs because over the last decade -- Tresselball and Tattoogate -- Ohio State has certainly suffered in that department. Being able to restore and improve national percpetion is critical to building a program that is able to recruit, especially on the national level that Urban Meyer has in mind. It might not sway those juniors sitting at home, but it will work for some others down the road. Urban Meyer knows this and will use that knowledge also to put some of his future players in a position where they are going to get a ton of personal publicity. It's an easy win, win.
I guess I just think that's a bit of a stretch. Everyone who follows recruiting can access ESPN, Rivals, Scout etc and see where the elite players are going. Those services also talk about how great the classes are and of course everyone knows what kind of recruiter Urban is. Difference of opinion I guess, but I just don't buy that a coach tells someone to hold off on committing, whether they secretly did to Urban or not, when they have a commitable offer. Especially, someone as talented and important to this class as Mitchell.
Also, why wouldn't he tell ALL of the recruits who would likely be in all star games, like Mitchell, Burrows, Marshall, Bosa etc to hold off on their announcement til their all star games?
If you convince a kid to wait 3 or 4 weeks you never know when another coach sneaks in and tells a kid jesus wants you to play for them(I know that's not exactly how it went)
LOL, but I don't doubt that happens with some coaches. Sadly.
Yup, and his recruitment of shariff Floyd, who seemed like a sure thing for the buckeyes until he wasn't. If memory serves I think he picked Florida at one of the all star games too... But things worked out because we got big Hank instead
The anticipation is Killing me to be quite honest...and what a great idea Bucks in the south. Great idea indeed;-)

Everybody is right. McLovin, BTALBERT, all y'all. I would imagine that, instead of "telling" kids to commit on a certain day, at a certain game, etc., that Meyer feels out the situation and, say Mitchell and family want a special moment in front of a national audience (because this is a family accomplishment in many, many ways) and Meyer feels really good about his chances, that he would be a fan of the all-star game announcement. Everybody wins.
Say a kid is really on the fence, though, and Urban does his Urban thing and the kid is ready right there to go Scarlet and Grey. I don't think Meyer thinks, "This would be great on TV for all to see; can you wait three weeks?" and sends a kid away with the possibilty of being swayed by another coach or school. I don't think, for example, that he sent Quick away from Columbus without a commitment when, as has been reported, Quick was almost ready to commit. Too dicey.
The timeline, as has been suggested, really looks good for us. Remember, too, that Mitchell will be out of school for much of this time on break, away from his classmates, who I'm guessing would rather he play for somebody closer to home.
He cancelled his Texas A&M visit. Very encouraging for us. :)

And.... The reason given that he he cancelled was, "Because he has a backlog of homework to get done". LOL...

I don't know about you but I don't have that kinda patience..lol
It also said he is spending time on his finals right now.
He said he loved the 1-on-1 time with Urban when he made his visit and loves Urban
Love the fact he cancelled his A&M visit. Go Bucks!
So . . . I've been F5'ing 11warriors all week for what? Now I have to watch the Army All American Game.

That thought has definitely crossed my mind.
This ^. That would more than explain some of the other not so highly rated prospects grabbing offers at other schools right now.
Great thought. I hope we some some block O arm gestures.
I think that you are all correct!

Mitchell is a Buckeye. I have said it for months and am saying it again. Nothing has changed the info I have continually gotten on this.
That must be old footage. Laker fans aren't cheering much these days.
haha, no they do not, but ive been wanting to use the lakers bros for awhile now. so i pulled the trigger.

Agreed... I'm actually taking off of work on NSD and sitting at home watching ESPNU... It's almost like March Madness for me.

Right, no reason watch ESPiN these days. 11W gets it right way before they even think about it.
