Bielema was on Mike&Mike this morning. I thought his comments were interesting. He basically came right out and said that the reason he's headed to Arkansas is so he can pay his assistant coaches what they're worth, have improved facilities, and just have access to more money all around. Right now, OSU and TTUN are going to spend money, but what about the rest of the conference? If the B1G presidents still think football is important, I'm hoping a move like this will light a fire under the rest of the conference to raise the level of expectations and put money behind those expectations. If that were to develop, everyone is helped, including OSU (all ships rise with the tide, etc.). I can dream......

Yeah, your comments are in line with the B1G needing to pay their coaches more money if they want to compete with the elite football teams. I also heard Bert say it was intriguing to him that he could have a 1-loss team and still be considered for the NC game. Wisky had two 1-loss teams at the end of the regular season (2006 and 2010). I think it's wishful thinking for him to have a 1-loss team in his division of the SEC. I'm also curious if his recruiting classes will improve.
I am very interested to see how he handles recruiting down there....
I think with the right staff he will do just fine. SEC team. Alot of kids want to play in the conference and Arkansas seems to be able to land some pretty decent kids.
Im also interested on how he will do in recruiting. He was crying about having to recruit against Urban and now he has to deal with Saban, Miles, Muschamp, and Richt. Should be funny to see it all plays out.
Don't you guys get the feeling that winning a national championship really isn't a priority for most B1G schools. If Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, Purdue went 8-4 every year, there wouldn't be too much complaining from their schools. I really don't think they want to pay coaches and assistant coaches high end salaries. The respective school presidents are content with their lot in the football universe, and really just focus more on academics and the ridiculous amount of cash they're reeling in. Bringing in Rutgers and Maryland certainly won't help.
Im glad a post came up about this because I heard this on my way to work this morning. He is completely right and I dont blame him for taking the job. Without the right staff around him it is hard to recruit in madison. He wont have that same problem at Arkansas. And he is completely right about the assistants needing to get paid more. If you want to win and be in it year in and year out you are going to need to shell out some money for the coaches.
