I listened to the press conference and Josh talked about his loyalty but early on the Rangers encouraged him to seek out his options. He said it was kind of like having a girlfriend and she tells you to go ahead and see others Then you meet someone who intrigues you and shows more interest and you and once you cross that line theres no going back.
Obviously 80% of the Buckeye recruits do not follow this logic but off the top of my head I can think of two. Gibson and Timmons. How much longer will these two hold out? I do know UK is recruiting both very hard as well as Hatcher from Trinity. UK already has one playmaker Khalid Thomas. I dont know but I think it is possible. The longer you wait for Quick it just may have negative consequences.
The difference, I suppose, is that neither Gibson nor Timmons are must-gets for me. Quick is the closest thing to a must-get that's still out there for OSU; so if we wait on Quick and he goes to UL (which seems likely), and Gibson and Timmons have moved on already, I'd say just stash those scholarships for a very talent-rich 2014 class. I don't feel you're losing anything tremendous by missing on Gibson or Timmons. I know how you feel about them haha, but personally I don't see them as game-changers, just solid players.
Not that I necessarily think Gibson or Timmons will be committed elsewhere by Quick's Jan 5th decision date, anyhow. But if they were I wouldn't see it as a huge loss. Just put the press on Myles Autry in the next class--who is the same type of player as Gibson or Timmons, but who is (in my humble opinion) more talented.
EDIT: Also just realized that Gibson is scheduled to visit OSU on Jan 7th--so he likely wasn't going to commit to OSU until after Quick has made his decision anyhow.
Yep Timmons visiting same time period as Gibson. Who are some other players in other positions fitting this mold?
Doesn't Gareon Conley affect this since he may play offense and would seem to be a similar type of all around playmaker?
Gibson is not holding out at all he and the staff are waiting to see his scores from this past semester no more no less. Hes wanted to be a buckeye for months now but both sides want to see if he can sign this year or if he has to go Juco.
