Jones leaving Cincy for Tennessee

You think the Bearcats will be looking at some of the Buckeye coaches for a replacement that can really recruit Ohio?

I hope they stay away from our staff for coaches, although it's inevitable we will loose some of these guys eventually.

I think it is great Charlie Strong told UT no thanks ... that is a guy you want as your head coach and Louisville should give him what he wants.

I'm sure Tom Herman is getting interest, and being a boy-genius from Cincinnati it makes sense for them to come calling.., but he'd be smart to stay a couple more years thru the Braxton era which would likely make him a big enough name at that time to skip the stepping stone jobs of this year like Cincy and Purdue and allow him to land a top 20 job/one of his dream jobs.

If a spread OC can look at Jalin Marshall coming in, and still consider leaving the program to go to UC, then he's mentally unstable and probably a liability in the first place.

UC coaches have a good recent history of landiing big time jobs, so I would not fault anyone for taking the job.

I think Cincinnati will quickly focus on Michigan State DC Pat Narduzzi. He had been Cincy's DC for three years before Michigan State hired him away. He'd be a good hire for them.

He would be a good hire for them. I think Wisconsin should look at Narduzzi. He would be a great fit for them.

Does anyone know if this hire helps TN with the recruitment of Vonn Bell? Is there any connection recruiting-wise between Jones & bell?

I posted this comment in the Coaching Changes thread a several days ago, and now that Jones is officailly gone I think it applies even more. Again, this is just information I got from someone clse to a booster...

"At this point Butch Jones leaving UC is all but certain (presumably to Colorado), Leaving UC as another attractive coaching vacancy.

A buddy of mine used to work within their athletic department and knows a lot of the boosters. They have known for some time that Jones would be leaving and had all ready began to develop their list of potential canidates. Many are not surprising: Bob Diaco, Pat Narduzzi, and Tom O'Brien are among the top tier.

But at the top of their list is someone near and dear to our heart: Jim Tressel. While we both agreed that UC probably does not have the resources to bring him in (and that is even before the show clause), it still was interesting to me to hear that that was a legitamate option in the mind of the UC hgher ups. I think it would be a situation full of drama thats for sure (and recruting the state of Ohio would definitely become trickier).

Again, probably a pipe dream on thier part, but figured I would at least past on this info. (Also this is my first post on 11W hope you guys found it iof value and interest)"

Called it in the other thread a while ago, I bet Coombs gets the UC job. Hope it's Narduzzi or literally anyone who's not on the OSU staff, but my gut tells me it's Coombs's job.

I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.

Not to toot my own horn, but yesterday I predicted this would happen. When I saw the Buckshots that said Butch Jones had turned down the Colorado job, I wrote:

Must be waiting for Tennessee to overpay for him...

This UT search has been He-larious for me living in Tennessee and seeing all these grown men, women, and children in a state of utter panic and despair as coach after coach tells their beloved faded orange team "Thanks, but no thanks." I mean they actually thought they were gonna get Jon Gruden! But they land on Jones, a guy with 6 years of HC experience, a guy who's been following in Brian Kelly's footsteps his last 2 stops and has never had to rebuild a program. He's an offensive coach, which is all fine and dandy, but it's their defense which has been completely horrendous lately. And it's a strong defense that is needed is you want to compete in the SEC.

The AD claimed he wanted to hire someone with head coaching experience, so that would eliminate any up and coming assistants. He also wanted someone with ties to the Southeast, which Jones does not. Also, UC played Tenn. a year ago or so and Tenn. beat UC, so their new coach has lost to the guy the fired. Jones did though have a 2-1 record against UofL and Charlie Strong, so there's that. But who knows, this hire could work out for them, but I don't think anyone is all that excited about it.

Also interesting: Butch Jones's real name is Lyle Allen Jones, Jr.
