Just remember: if Mark May's opinion makes you feel anything about anything, he's winning. He's a charicature, a talking head, no reason to take anything he ever says seriously or personal.
I have come to find him amusing. It is so obvious he is just trying to get certain fanbases riled up (OSU, ND, etc), yet everyone still gets so upset every time he does his trolling. I remember when his studio partner was Trev Alberts. He was great at getting OSU fans upset, and I think MM learned well from him.
Do you guys think the mark may "character" is just contrived by espn? Seriously. I realized this the other day while reading this. If ESPN determines the opinions of the PTI crew, I'd have to assume they do the same for May and Holtz.
Say what you want about ESPN, but they are a top company out there in terms of profits. You don't simply get such a visible job in such a big company by being an idiot. If I had to guess, I'd say Mark May really is an intelligent guy, but ESPN's producers encourage him to annoy certain fanbases, but in a calculated way, so as to make sure its enough to keep people coming back just to hate mark may, but not enough that theyre completely turned off.
The next time youre watching that show, just put yourself in that spot. Do you really think three grown, intelligent men, would get THAT worked up over sports, every SINGLE WEEK. Just my two cents, sorry for going long form here haha
I'm sure what we see on TV of MM is an amplified version of what he is in real life. I'm sure he doesn't care for Ohio State but is encouraged to take more digs to jack up ratings for the show.
I will say, I saw unbridled hate on his face when he lost that bet to Lou Holtz and had to wear the Leprechaun suit and sing the ND fight song.
Then Lou gave him sh!t for not wearing the little green hat.

I LOVED ^^^this!!!!! I just wish Mark May would get a life...bc all his revolves around is hating on OSU and ND.

The set designs, the desks, the jackets and ties, ESPN presents itself as a news network, and people often mistake them for one. But they are not a news network. They produce the product that they cover, and in no sport is this more evident than in CFB. If you consider that the "E" in ESPN is for entertainment, everything becomes easier to stomach. They are putting on a show, and like any show they need characters and storylines. Despite how many Buckeyes view Kirk Herbstreit, he has become the face of college football. He is ESPN's golden boy, the hero of the show, and he is expected to be unbiased. The problem is the rest of the country --wrongly imo-- sees him as Buckeye biased. Therefore, Mark May's role is to be a counterweight and lightning rod, the wise-cracking sidekick who puts on his clown suit and takes his shots. Like any show, Gameday needs its foil, and with the size of its fan base, its back-to-back NCG flops, and made-for-TV downfall of its sweater-vested icon, nobody fits that role as well as OSU. Until somebody else does --I'm looking at you ND-- get used to the Mark May clowning the Buckeyes.
Despite MM being in a role were being an antagonist gets viewership, the guy still goes out of his way to ridicule OSU. I still don't think his act is based on ratings. 3 blind mice can get those ratings because it is the coverage of all the days scores and highlights.
Nobody watches that show for MM or Holtz. and the stupid Dr. Lou or judge thing is dumb. It really needs to go and get a real college recap show.
Real creative. I'd say way to copy off of Shane Morris, but Shane Morris isn't smart enough to come up with something like that on his own. Way to copy off the guy that Shane Morris copied off of.
I hope, as a "respected member of the media" Mr. May gave credit where credit is do for his shtick- that was originally going around on Face Book. He certainly isn't smart or funny enough to come up with that on his own. On Face Book, they also come in red!

Dude, be careful what you post online. Sometimes this chit isn't taken as a joke by everyone. Be cool. I dislike MM too, but damn.
^^^^^ yep, went a little too crazy over nothing, frustrated over what I think should be ours!

It's normal for a Buckeye fan to have ill will toward MM. We all have our moments.

We need a moratorium on Mark May threads.

was this in regards to the blank t-shirt bit that Mark May did last night on the bowl announcement special, assisted by Reece Davis?
I saw that --- what an unprofessional d-bag.

Class of 2010.
Mark May is now aping jokes from Michigan recruits. Seems about right.
