CBS is reporting that UT has offered the head coaching job to Gundy... Where does this leave Strong now? Does he stay put or does he go after the Wisconsin or OK St job?

Was already repoted by ESPN today that Strong was staying put at Louisville. Not good for us in the case of Quick.Think that deminishes our chances with him,in my opinion.
SCOTTC.
No way he's going to Wisconsin...it's much easier to get a Florida kid (his recruiting hotbed) to go to Louisville than Wisconsin.
I think you are confusing schools going after Strong, not Strong looking for a job. He isn't going after wisky or OKST. He will stay in Louisville, tell them what he was offered and get a big pay raise to stay.
as for Quick, don't think it really changes much. If he stays in Louisville it is because its home, not because of the coach.
I believe UofL has said or "sources" have said that they would be able to match any offer made to Strong.
$$$ talks... just saying...
Well... L'ville offers the same salary, but UT has a brand new $42 million dollar facility (google it) and has the highest recruiting budget in the country.
Louisville is right up there in budget as well. In fact, once UofL moves to the ACC, they will automatically be the largest budget in the ACC. Even over FSU and Miami.
If I'm UT I would much rather have Strong than Gundy, but Gundy's not a bad hire. Supposedly Jimbo Fisher was the top choice of the AD, so I'm not sure what happened with all the Fisher rumors.
I also wonder if Butch Jones from UC is just waiting to see what all opens up: Wisky, Louisville, Oklahoma State, etc. before he makes a decision.
My super secret sources tell me Tim Beckman is in play.
Signed,
Drew
@TENNBUCKEYE19-in regards to Jimbo, didn't want to leave FSU.Told Auburn the same thing, before they offered Malzhon.Has it too good down in the Florida hot bead of recruits. He'll bring in top 10 class down there without getting off his couch,as long as they keep winning.

I'll be really interested to see how he does in the Big Twelve, if there's any fire to the smoke signals alluding to it. The Big Twelve is going to eat him alive; not because he can't win big games, but because his teams constantly play to the level of their opponents--there's a lot of prolific offenses down in the Plains, just dying to play spoiler to an elite team's title dreams.
Evidently Gundy is no longer in the running and Strong still is... wonder if Tennessee is just leaking misinformation to make people actually talk about them as if they're relevant
I'd be shocked if Gundy took this job. UT is a high profile place and the lure to rebuild a tarnished, once great empire has to be a draw but since T. Boone started making it rain in Stillwater, OKST is able to play, recruit, and compete with the big boys. At this point, things are pointing up at Oklahoma State, yet stagnant in Rocky Top. With that said, he'll always be second fiddle in the state-Everyone is an OU fan down there from my experience working with Hertz (Business center based in OKC).
Not that its the sole difference, but Gundy did once fire a general contractor for wearing an Oklahoma Sooners Baseball shirt to his house-the guy flat out bleeds orange and black.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
He played QB at Oklahoma State. The place is his dream job, and I highly doubt he ever leaves Ok. State for another job.
Yep. It'd be a step back given the rise OSU has been on. Cool little stat on Gundy-this year was the first time they had a worse record than the year prior since he took over. This year he would have had to have gone 13-0 to continue the streak. Talk about a program builder (again, it helps when this guy is your program's daddy....)
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Yeah, I just can't help but wonder if he's hit the program's ceiling. Unfortunately for him, he's got to share the same recruiting territory with Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A & M (which right now has more momentum that Okie St. did last year). Though T. Boone Pickens might be an awesome sugar daddy, I just can't see him sustaining his trajectory when Oklahoma and Texas inevitably improve.
I know he's at his dream school, and will probably stay put. I just kinda see him like a better version of Pat Fitzgerald, a great coach who's definitely doing the best job that can be done for his school--but will probably not ever be a heavyweight in his conference, and is content with that because of his love for his school.
For the record, I think Tennessee has much more potential power than OSU does, though I don't know if Gundy's the kind of guy that could leverage that (though his offense would give the SEC fits).
Oh at its height, few teams could challenge UT. But history isn't on the side of coaches trying to rebuild once great programs. Michigan never sniffed it with Rich Rod, and some might argue aren't on pace with Hoke. Fisher has FSU relevant but certainly no where near its previous heights, Kelly is the closest at ND, given that whole national championship thing he's got going on but I'll buy when he has ND a perennial top 10 team (which in fairness to him should happen with time). Kiffin can't seem to fix USC, while Brown can't even recreate what he had once himself at Texas.
It is a really tough road to hoe when it comes to taking one of the great programs in college football and getting it back. The Fitzgerald comparison is apt, in my opinion. OKST is like NU on steroids, minus the academic requirements.
I'm thinking Oklahoma State can continue to make runs at 8-10 win seasons. They did lose a large portion of their offense last season, so this year's drop off is expected. If I'm Gundy, I'm staying put where I'm already a king and not venturing out. Especially given the commitment OKST has made to its football program. That is something not a lot of your non major powers can say.
Shocked Fitz's name isn't in some of these coaching opening conversations though. He fits in the SEC like pine tar on a ham sammich, but I though something like BC would have been a decent fit.

Fitzgerald wouldn't leave Northwestern if he had a gun to his head. Pretty sure he was on Michigan's radar in early 2011, he quashed those rumours pretty fast. I think schools have since wisened up.
Yes, his name came up in Michigan's search and he said he wasn't interested.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Jimmy Hyams on Twitter is now reporting Gundy is no longer a candidate...
And are there any reports regarding the raise Okl. St is gonna be giving Gundy?
I'm sure it will be a nice chunk of money...
Jimmy Hyams is reporting that Charlie Strong is still in consideration. This could be Strong's only opportunity for a SEC for a few years.
I think UT will toss a good amount of money at Strong, but tough for him to stay at U of L IMO but wouldnt be shocked if he did. I think UT is a much better job than U of L, a bit of a rebuilding job but a good place to recruit and its in the SEC.
I actually hope Strong turns down Tennessee too. All of this is too funny for a guy like me who lives in Tennessee and works with and is friends with many UT fans. My in laws are UT grads and my father in law is still pissed they fired Fulmer and went after Kiffin. He hated Kiffin and felt the Dooley hire was an absolute joke.
Sounds like your father in law has a pretty good account of what happened. The rest of the country pretty much thinks the same thing.

I can see the headline now on ESPN if Strong turns down the job at UT "Strong realizes he's not good enough to coach in SEC". Their CFB coverage is just laughable...
I hope they hire him and UT is relevant again that way my wife will actually want to sit down and watch some games. Otherwise, she wants to get out of the house and go do stuff. Not a way I like to spend my Saturday's in the fall.
I tell my wife that there are 14 days in the year where my ass will be firmly planted on the couch watching football all day. She has to live with it.
If Strong doesn't make the jump to Tennessee, it's hard to find a relevant coaching hire they could make without it being a colossal bust (in the eyes of the Vol fans). The only other one I can think of is Kirby Smart, and even that would be questionable, due to the fact he's never been a head coach.
Is UT the place a Chris Petersen or Gary Patterson finally jump to? Do they throw so much money at Jon Gruden he can't possibly say no? David Shaw (a Stanford alum)? These are all reaches as far as whether these guys would even be interested.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
I live in TN and Fedora and Fisher are the only other names I've heard thrown out there. I could see Kirby Smart since he was connected to Dave Hart at Bama, but Hart has already said he wants to hire someone with head coaching experience. I think if Hart were to throw $4 million plus at Strong he would take it. UT just built a brand new $42 million dollar facility for training and recruiting purposes.
I was told they contacted Chris Peterson when they hired Kiffin and when they hired Dooley... Apparently he loves Boise and being out west.
SEC- do you by chance live in Murfreesboro?
Phil Fullmer said he'd take the job again lol.
Many fans are regretting that UT ever got rid of him. And now they might have to crawl back to him. Of course the AD who fired him, hired Kiffin, got pooped on by Kiffin, then hired Dooley, is no longer there.
Rocky Top is reporting that Gundy will be staying at OK State.

“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Seems Gundy and his agent were using lucrative offers from both Arkansas and Tennessee as leverage. A good move if he gets more money, but he might be burning some bridges in Stillwater.
Yep, word is now that Gundy and Strong are getting extensions and Tennessee is left hangin!
louisville athletic director is on record as saying he will make strong the highest paid coach in order to keep him. i just read that in the louisville newspaper.
