Withers. He's one of the better recruiters, he has more experience than just about anyone on the staff with having coached in both college and the NFL. He also has experience, albeit limited, as a head coach.
I think it may take a few years compared to what most people think. All of our coaches get payed A LOT of money now and its gonna take more than a mac school to draw them away considering Hazell was only making 300k as the kent HC. Also there are a lot of names out there that have already proven themselves as HC Butch Jones, Hazell, Strong, Peterson so IMO they we'll have to be picked through first before they look at assistant coaches and coordinators
Though when those head coaches you just named get better jobs the schools they vacate will suddenly be looking for guys. Louisville would be a good job to get now that they're headed to the acc and they've already shown they hire assistants
Here's teams looking for coaches and the salaries they pay:
I do not think any are being considered for the higher paying positions yet. I think it will take a much higher salary and better position to lure Fickell away. Withers has less attachements to OSU and the current coaches. He has been coaching at the FBS/pro level for a while. On one hand he is qualified; on the other is he like that Colonel who never quite can get a promotion to General? Herman is an up and comer but may take another season or to to grow. However, after we win the title next year his legend may grow.
Another thing to consider is past coaches. Strong stayed at Florida for seven years. Mullen was with him for three years at Florida (and many years before that), Addazio was there for five years. So following past history I am thinking it is probably 3 years before a defection (he says hopefully).
Fortunately Marotti and and Mark Pantoni are likely to be with Meyer throughout his tenure. And from another prospective, who cares, I didn't love this staff coming in but they produced to the tune of 12-0. Seems Meyer would be able to reload staff as well as he does top level recruits:-).
Interesting numbers, I'm a little surprised Arkansas doesn't pay better considering they are in the mighty S.E.C. Shoot, even Kentucky and Tennessee open the purse strings a bit.
The numbers are what the last coach made. In Arkansas' case it was John L Smith, an interim coach. I'd be amazed if they didn't pay the next guy exponentially more.
im pretty sure withers or herman could go to nc state. withers already has a year of acc head coaching experience and tom herman could bring a completely new offense to the acc
Withers would never be welcome at NC State (I see him going back to coach App. State or UNC eventually). That would be akin to UM hiring Jim Tressel or OSU hiring Bo Schembechler. Herman isn't HC material in my mind, yet at least. This doesn't really matter though because NC State hired Dave Doeren.
If Jones leaves, I'd be shocked if they don't hire Coombs. Shame, since he's probably my favorite assistant here. Also, love how I got downvoted for that comment.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Maybe, Coombs has only been coaching in college since '07 other than that he has stritcly been HS so he may not have the experience yet, or may not even want to leave. Who knows.
He was a fantastic HS coach and has been a great assistant. Again, I really don't want him to leave, especially to UC (who I loathe as much as TSUN), but I think it will happen.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
I think Herman is the first... After that I'm not sure... A lot of people wouldn't think too highly of this year's defense. I could see Fickell and Withers being gone if next year's D is good. I'd like to have Oregon's O coordinator if Herman leaves.
As soon as he is out of the NFL he becomes a grad assistant here, I betcha. Would be crazy if the same thing happened with Simon and/or Boren-holy moly, what examples and leaders for the team to follow.
Yeah, Boren and Simon would be huge to have as GAs. Sure, Tim Tebow has the name; but to have guys like Simon and Boren--themselves testaments to the leadership that propelled us through that undefeated 2012 campaign--how could you not be inspired having them on staff?
Offensive minded coaches I think are at a higher premium than defensive ones, at least outside the B1G. My guess is Herman is the first to go, then Withers. Fickell needs to be our D-coordinator for a while but if he makes the Silver Bullets world beaters I could definitely see someone court him.
If someone does leave I hope two things:
1, they dont take their recruits with them
2, their replacements fit in well. The OSU 2012 staff came together at the end, but it took a while for them to mesh and i am not 100 percent sure they're all the way there. We suddenly get a bunch of new coaches that would definitely cause more issues. We can use some continuity for sure so lets hope we have all our assistants for years to come.

I'm going with Fickell and Withers as far as the two most likely. Herman will get there, but I think he wants to stick around Urban a little longer, in my opinion.
Fickel gets paid pretty good where he's at now. 750,000 Wow!! Comfort Zone + Buckeye Nation. He's gonna make more staying put @tOSU instead of taking a MAC job or smaller. Unless he can nab a really big job (highly unlikely) then why leave? Unless he is dead set on running his own gig w a paycut. Coach w Urban for 12-15 years. If possible.
He could take a MAC job @ 4-500,000 a yr & be out after 5 hrs if it doesn't work out, then what?? He's got the best of both worlds here at OSU!
If the best job that Paul Petrino can get is Idaho I can't imagine Tom Herman will have many great opportunities to be a HC until he has a couple more productive years as our OC

Figured I'd bump this thread considering all the chatter in other forums about buckeye assisstants getting interest for jobs now, anybody thinking of changing their vote now that Withers and Fick are getting looks at schools or now that UC is available (Kerry Coombs anyone?)...?
I don't think he gets it...an interview is a start...but not a definite thing.

Warriner could get the call too. If I had to guess right now, I'd say Tom Herman.
I'm going with Herman. If the offense performs to its potential in the next few years there will be schools begging for him.

I bet Herman is gone after next season. Unfortunatly. Too good notto get a head coaching position.
Jim Tressel vs. Rich Rod = Urban Meyer vs. Brady Hoke
Withers. He's one of the better recruiters, he has more experience than just about anyone on the staff with having coached in both college and the NFL. He also has experience, albeit limited, as a head coach.
I think they all stay for at least one more year. #Wishfulthinking

Here's their salaries

Good point, I forgot they got the bankruptcy discount in 2012.

Where do I get an application to apply. I truly feel I could do what gene chizic did this year!
Wherever you are, there you be!
If Butch Jones takes the Purdue job, Kerry Coombs is gone to UC.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
@thebadbowl hadn't considered that, but I have to agree with you, coombs could be considered for Cincinnati.
otherwise, i could see herman being poached after next season, assuming all goes well

How long before Tebow ends up on Urban's staff in some capacity?

I wonder if fickell takes a job, would he take vrabel along with him as an assistant, maybe even as a DC?
Gotta be withers or fickell, herman hasn't proved enough yet
John Shavis signed a 3 year deal 1.1 per season. He a assistant coach for tenn.
Link? I doubt he left LSU to make what he's essentially making at LSU.

Is Fickel's pay based on being the HC last season on a 2 yr deal??
From what I understand the school didn't want to dock his HC salary after moving back to DC.

Looks like Drayton interviewed at Temple according to SI. We could all be wrong!
Did not see that coming
