Braxton is working with QB guru George Whitfield this offseason which is the best decision he could have made next year you will see an even better passer. I truly feel bad for the rest of the big ten next year :)

I feel bad for Withers and Fickell. That defense is going to be a joke.
How have you not hit -50 helmet stickers yet? I don't even understand this comment at all. The post is about Braxton working on his passing. This is completely unrelated to defense at all (other than opposing defenses who will have to deal with a better-passing Braxon Miller). You're a joke.
MUST...BANHAMMER...THIS...TROLL!!! Who could handle ten years of this BS? Good decision on Braxtons part. He should be able to make some huge strides during the offseason. Good riddance to the tenyeartroll. Enjoy Mgoblow.com.

That D that didn't allow scUM to cross the 50 in the 2nd half? That D? Is that the D you're talking about?

I saw two records broken today. Calvin Johnson broke the single season receiving yards record and tenyearwar had to have absolutely destroyed the 11W down vote record.
Honestly Tenyearwar, there is a large number of the community that will talk football with you here even if you don't root for their team. My question is, was that ever your goal?
WOW....that has to be a record for downvotes? Not to mention your post has absolutely nothing to do with Braxton Miller working with a Qb guru!
-108
This record will be unbreakable. Well at least until it's time for Buckeye football.

And we thought this guy put up SICK numbers in '12! Cue evil laugh..... MWHAAHAHAAAAA!
Some background, Whitfield has worked with such names as Andrew Luck and Cam Newton, and guys still in college like Boyd, Manuel, and some other big names.
Thanks Buck-I.8 was gonna put the list of names out there but too busy watching the basketball bucks
I'm looking for another breakout season from Braxton in the passing game. Then we can start all of the Troy Smith comparisons and get the 2013 (realistic) Heisman Campaign rolling!!!
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Tajh Boyd
Andrew Luck
Ben Roethlisberger
Cam Newton
The name that stood out the most to me was Tajh Boyd. He had a huge year.
Yeah, this is awesome. Now we need the receivers to do the same.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Johnny Manziel has also been known to workout with Mr. Whitfield when not attending basketball games.
Eh.
I prefer to use Boyd because his build is similar to Braxton. He's thrown for 7378 yds and 67 TDs in the last two seasons.

I really hope our wide receivers make improvements like Braxton. They need to get more physical off the line.
BOOOOOOM
Look for Devin Smith to get better separation, and Corey Brown to work less on the physicality and more on the ability as a playmaker. Smith will need to become a possession guy as well as a homerun threat, and expect Brown to become shiftier and quicker. When you're a slasher/hybrid like Brown, the physical aspect of WR play isn't as crucial as your playmaking ability.
For the most part, it isn't a stretch to think that both of these veterans will make huge strides going forward.
I think Michael Thomas is one to watch. Should become a presence on the outside this coming year.

Also goes to show that it isn't always the playing studs that are best teachers of the game and fundamentals. Think about that next time anyone talks down about Dilfer working with the Elite 11 kids.
I've never understood that thought process anyway, when some many times in sports, it's guys who didn't excell that make the best coaches and managers. I think truly elite players have a hard time teaching the position or the game for that matter. Not always of course, but for guys that the game always came easy to, it's not always easy to teach technique and mechanics.
I doubt you'll ever see Marino, Young, or even Brady be elite coaches in the future. A guy like Peyton Manning could be. He has ungodly talent and he's relatable. I think in a lot of ways he's kind of a coach on the field already.
Just from my experience, your observations are pretty much right on the mark. The best coaches I ever worked with were not stars on the field. They played the game, but they had to work hard for everything they accomplished, nothing came naturally to them. The same can be said of the teachers I worked with in HS. The best teachers were not the 4.0 egg heads, but the ones who really had to work to make it through school (this is based on achievement testing of their students). Heck, one of the best teachers at the HS I coached at didn't even have a college diploma - he lied about it on his application. Taught for 20 years before it was discovered, but he had one of the best records in the school for student achievement testing, and all the students thought he was the best teacher in the school. Go figure!!!
My baseball coach was too short to make it to the pros, despite having the talent. He used everything he'd learned and all the pent up frustration from his own failures, and he was the best coach ive ever had.
NW Buckeye and BTalbert: good points, although there is another obvious explanation working from the opposite direction . . . the stars, espcially guys who become superstars in the pros, experience levels of wealth and status that might make it less appealing for them to spend 3-5 years "paying their dues" in the lower ranks of coaching, etc. After their playing days, they're usually either independently wealthy; or, if they blew all their cash, they tend not to have the right mindset to be a coach, anyway (although that's how some of them get back on their feet).
Even former college stars who don't succeed professionally, often get set up with cushy, high paying jobs in financial services, marketing, fund raising, and so forth.
Tom Brady might have what it takes to be an awesome coach, but he'll probably never explore that route.
Oh I agree, but there were some guys like Babe Ruth for instance who desperately wanted to be a great manager but just didn't have what it took. Most of my examples are in baseball. Ted Williams would of been a horrible coach and it was for the reason that he was a great player. He was a horses ass, he never would of been someone who could of successfully led a team to greatness.
It did not come easy for Brady. He didn't start at Michigan until his senior year. And there was skepticism even then. We was the 199th draft pick in his draft class. He didn't earn the starting job in New England until the starter got hurt. He manages New England's offense just as well as Peyton has done over the years. Brady had been going to his own qb guru until he died last year. You will rarely ever see him run for a first down. 99% of his rushing stats are from qb sneeks.

You're correct sir, I played with him at Tiffin my Freshman year when he was a senior. George had the size and look, but wasn't much of a player. As they say, those that can't do it coach. Good for both of them, with George's track record as a consultant it certainly can't hurt. Worked for Johnny football.
That whole from Massillon factoid is a black eye on Mr. Whitfield's resume in my honest opinion. Ha ha. GO BULLDOGS!!
Happy to hear that Braxton will be getting some quality advice this off-season, but I'm frankly surprised such an arrangement is permitted by the NCAA. How is Mr. Whitfield being compensated for his work?
Its 200$/ day im sure hes paying the same way those other QB's did when they were in college. Whitfield has been doing this with college QB's for awhile now and even worked with Manziel last year so im sure the NCAA and compliance offices everywhere know the protocol necessary so no one gets in trouble.
How much time are players allowed to spend on football related activities during the off season? Is Whitfield being paid by tOSU or does he work for Braxton and family. I'm certain our coaching staff and compliance office know what they're doing but I get a little concerned when I see things like this. I hope the extra work pays off.
If Whitfield is publically saying on Twitter (and tweeting pictures) of working out with Braxton, I would assume compliance has already checked into this.
I don't see this being an NCAA violation...whether there's pics on twitter or not. It's not been disclosed if Whitfield's being paid or not or by whom. Just be happy he's trying to improve and if it's non organized work outs...then it doesn't matter who the player is doing it with (as long as it isn't a NFL agent... or an OSU coach before winter conditioning. Then OSU may have something to worry about). Meyer had said that him and Herman had some ideas in mind to assist Brax's passing. Let's just say he'll be better for sure...QB's work with QB coaches all the time...there's nothing illegal about it.

In order for it to be permitted, Braxton or his family has to pay for it. If tOSU was paying him, then it would be an NCAA violation. There is nothing to worry about, this is on the up and up and I'm sure all involved are making sure it is. I'm not looking forward to a better passing Braxton to be honest.
Here is a question though. Does anybody think this next year might be Braxton's last year at tOSU? I'm wondering, because I would think if his family is making this kind of investment, which im assuming will continue during other offseason times, then they might be hoping he will be able to go pro after next year.
I definitely don't think he leaves after this year. QBs are most likely to stay 4 years to begin with, but it's even more frequent with spread-type athletes. If he wants to be a QB at the next level, he has to perfect his throwig mechanics, and make sure everything is in order, because he'll have to change systems. I suppose it does depend on his level of improvement this next year.
Thanks for the answer. I was just curious because if he works really hard on his mechanics, and is putting this much investment in it with time and money, with as great of an athlete as he is, if everything clicks, then does the NFL start calling? You are right though, spread QB's do tend to stay four years. Either way, I'm sure he will be a better passer next year.
We've seen him jump whole levels of quality with his mechanics in the matter of a week or two this season, so I think there's no doubt that he makes strides. However, he still has to put the throwing together with his footwork.
Not to mention, he'll be really working hard on the playbook, and his reads, especially because Urban's "Harvin" will be on campus, and he'll want to put everything together. These things dont apply to the next level as much, beyond simple field vision improvement. The spread reads won't be an issue in the NFL, but he'll be spending a lot of time with them in the present.
Agree with this about his mechanics 100% along with him staying until he's a senior. I can't see Urban telling him he's ready for the NFL, even after a good season that I'm sure he'll have next year. His field vision among other things are obviously why he's getting coached up by Whitfield. I'm sure it's all on the up and up...or we'd of heard something "negative" from the world wide leaders of bull shit slinging (on everyone that's not in tSEC of course).

He couldn't do this is school was session. Christmas break, his time, a Christmas present :).
He also coached up Donovan Mcnabb while he was a free agent

If I remember correctly he also worked with a young Arthur Fonzarelli out of the Milwaukee area when he was training for the big shark jump of 1977.

And has not worked with Tebow, Sanchez, Henne, Grbac or Joe Bauserman
He's willing to take on the challenge however.

His twitter page has some cool pictures of him teaching QB techniques to Braxton.
I've heard since Braxton was in highschool what a phenominal arm he has and how great of a passer he was. If he is truly that talented and he works with this guy and gets techniques to practice all winter, I'm REALLY excited for the future with this kid. I already was, but he could honestly reach heights Troy didn't. He could end up the best QB to ever set foot in Ohio Stadium.
I love this tweet:

Here we are covering 'Chaos mechanics'. This is like training a matador. They've got to understand the 'bull' 1st. pic.twitter.com/5vlF8gaK
This is good BUT Braxton should also go to the Peyton & Eli Manning QB camp over the summer to get to the level he needs to be throwing the football.
"Fate has cards that it don't want to show"
As long as he only listens to Peyton and not Eli. If Eli had a different last name he might not have ever been drafted or played in the NFL
That's a good one my friend. There's just something about those two Super Bowl rings that's hard to overlook. Like his brother; Eli has excellent mechanics, although at times under pressure he will throw off his back foot and that gets him in trouble.
"Fate has cards that it don't want to show"
Eli Manning won superbowls because the defense on those teams were ridiculous. His passer rating is terrible regardless of mechanics. Eli isn't close to being as good as Peyton. It drives me crazy all these Giants fans (not saying you are one) saying how Eli's so great and everything when he's actually just mediocre. He's too inconsistent to be considered "elite".
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
This is great to hear that he hasn't become complacent and knows he can improve in his passing and obviously wants to become better not only for himself but the team also. Great to hear he is willing to work with different people to help himself.
P.S. I'm new here and glad to be part of the buckeye family and as always Go buckeyes!!
Forgive me for sounds stupid but what makes this guy so special besides training other QB's and playing at OSU in the 90's. Moreover, I thought Miller was gonna workout with Tebow.
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
No offense, but I would whether have B. Miller workout with this guy than Tebow on the forms of passing motion etc ... Only thing Tebow can provide is mentor session in being a leader and giving 110% in each aspect of the game.
He never played at OSU. He's an expert with spread QBs, has been called upon for draft prep for national champions and Heisman winners, and has a track record that I'm sure Urban is familiar with. If he wanted Braxton to work with Tebow, they'd be working together, but he sent him to Whitfield, and I trust it.
By all means, have Tebow work with Braxton on his leadership, passion, and playbook mastery, but if the guy that was unanimously criticized by scouts for his awful mechanics works with the QB on fundamentals, I'm skeptical.
He has an outstanding track record for one. This has garnered the respect from NCAA and NFL coaches. He also works as an instructor at the Elite 11 camp. Why is he a success? He studies mechanics of throwing motions. Like anything else if you do something obsessively chances are you are proficient enough to share your knowledge about it.
I'm good on Brax360 coaching Tebow...but don't think there's one thing he can learn from Tebow besides leadership. Braxton's a better QB right now then Tebow...bank that.

Really? Really? That might be the BIGGEST homer comment I have ever heard. You do realize Tebow won the Heisman as a sophomore right?
I think eventually over the summer they'll get together, I think Meyer just wants Braxton to meet him and pick up on some of the leadership qualities, tips on the offense, and motivation in the weightroom, etc. I don't think he wants Tebow to come back and train Miller on how to be a QB.
This is the kind of leader we need at QB
Good for you BM. When everyone else is relaxing and enjoying their holiday break, you are out bettering yourself for the good of the team.
Watch out world.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
My guess is we see huge leaps and bounds from Braxton as a passer this year...wouldn't shock me to see Troy Smith 2006-type dominance but he'll dazzle with the legs too...really could be a record breaking year for XBrax360
You do know that Braxton doesn't really like that nickname, right?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
When did he say that?
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
You asked him, or was this reported somewhere? (Not trying to be a jerk - just find that interesting since it's been used so often.)
At around the 5:20 mark in this video, Braxton is asked about Johnny Football's nickname. Then he is told about people calling him XBRAX360. He doesn't seem to hate it, but he doesn't seem to love it either.
Thanks for sharing this - I had not seen it before.
Yeah, that's the video where I saw it.

Michianders can't allow themselves to envision what Braxton will be like next year when they have already seen what their woes at QB and coaching will be like next year.
But Devin Gardner is the second coming of Tom Brady...You havent heard!??!?!?!??!?1
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Excellent move on the part of Braxton. Don't let the 12-0 record cloud your opinion of Braxton as a QB, since the Bucks have many good players that made this a season to remember. Braxton's QB rating was 44th out of all FBS QB's. Not a good number considering he didn't play against any Top 15 team and played against an extremely weak OOC schedule, a weaker than usual BIG schedule, and the majority of games in the friendly confines of Columbus. Fans will point to his rushing yards (he was ranked #22), but he won't make RB in the pro's, so if he wants to be a good QB, he must be a good passer, not just an option runner. Plays are called from the sidelines, so his play calling is not a factor. In the BIG, Braxton finished 5th in rushing, 6th in passing yds/avg per game, 5th in passing efficiency, 2nd in total offense behind Martinez, 5th in scoring (kickers excluded), and 7th in all purpose yards. So, I believe his QB numbers can be vastly improved and he's making a good decision with the off season tutorship. Before fans start hollering for 2013 Heisman glory, he needs to be a great QB in the BIG, because unfortunately the Buckeyes play another terribly weak OOC schedule where Braxton can't be measured against outside elite competition until bowl time.
Straight Talk
Miller and Pryors passing stats are somewhat similar...
Pryor's fr yr: 1,311 yds, 12 tds 4 ints
Miller's fr yr: 1,159 yds, 13 tds 4 ints
Pryor's soph yr: 2,094 yds, 18 tds 11 ints
Millers soph yr: 2,039 yds, 15 tds 6 ints
Pryor's Jr. yr: 2,772 yds, 27 tds 11 ints (13 games)
Miller's Jr Yr: Prediction: 3,000 yds, 28 tds 5 ints. (*14 games)
Miller's bound to make a big jump just like Pryor, and while Miller may be in a better system now than what Pryor had w/ Bollman, Pryor had better WRs to work with. But with Miller's growth into his 3rd season as well as all of our WRs and rest of the O, he should put up some pretty good stats. His stats will also depend on how much he runs as well as the rest our running game and how dominant it could potentially be next year.
And will predict he will have his first career 300 yard passing game next season and will have 2 of them.
