So far there are a handful of coaches that have been given the boot. I wonder what affect this is going to have on recruiting over the next month and if the Buckeyes will be able to capitalize on any new hires? Obviously we have all heard the rumors on Saban and Chip Kelly, but i have seen Bill O'Brien's name mentioned and I am sure there are a few names that will be mentioned over the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see how this all transpires and i am sure tOSU staff is putting in extra work and getting in the ear of some of these recruits! I know there was a previous thread on the PSU class and there really aren't many guys that tOSU would take, aside from possbily Brenneman, and even he is a stretch as we are looking good at TE. It should make for an interesting couple of weeks leading to NLOI day!
Happy New Year everyone, i hope you all have a safe and prosperous 2013 and as always, GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

7 coaches gone, 7 spots open. Bears, Browns, Bills, Cardinals, Chiefs, Chargers and Eagles
Any chances Saban or Chip Kelley finally go NFL?
There are now alot of NFL trained assistants that were on these fired staffs, looking for work. Any chances Urban brings in new coaches to Columbus?
I think Lovie being fired was the biggest shock.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Yeah for sure. Getting fired after having 10 wins is wild, but the Bears did miss the playoffs and Lovie's been there while, so I guess ownership is thinking they need a fresh start.
They've missed the playoffs 5 times out of the past 6 years. Lovie had to go, he'll get picked up somewhere as a DC though.
It couldn't be helped last year. They lost Cutler and Forte lasy year when the Bears were rolling. This year Cutler missed the 2nd half against the Texans, and the entire game against the 49ers.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
If the GM had given Lovie the pieces for a functional OL I think the Bears would have been in business... Coaching wasn't the issue. I'd give Lovie another shot at head coach.
And I do think Kelley does the sneaky Pete exit before Oregon gets whacked.
Bears fans should remember how the chargers fared after they fired Marty Schotenheimer, who also had a double digit win season.

I hope Jason Carrot gets added to that list. C'mon Jerry!!!!
Can't imagine many Cowboy fans want Romo back for another run, either.
Romo phucks up quite a bit, but also does a lot of great things including lots of come back wins. Cowboys were just unlucky with injuries this year, Murray misses 6 games, Austin injured all year but played through it, Witten ruptured spleen at the beginning of the year, lost a few starters on the OL for the year, CBs, Ware was 50% last night, Both Lee and Carter who are a great tandem at ILB both done for the year, Lee for most of the season, Pro Bowl DT Ratliff out, his replacement kills his buddy driving drunk, lots of scrubs on that D who weren't even on teams all season until the Cowboys lost a bunch of starters and a bunch of their replacements. But really, there isn't really anyone better the Cowboys could get right now... I mean he puts up great numbers and I know they can be deceiving but he is #5 All Time in QB Rating, just .1 behind Peyton.
Putting up big numbers is only part of the equation. The problem is that he self-destructs. For almost every good thing he does, he follows it with some bonheaded play that costs his team.
True but a lot of the blame gets put on him when it should be else where, like most of the time, the Defense. But that swing pass to Murray was terrible. Carrot also calls a terrible game every since he became a HC. He really couldn't do much that last drive though w/ no Dez or Austin.
Yeah that last drive, he was kinda playing with one arm tied behind his back with his 2 best wide-outs sidelined. I watch a lot of Cowboy games (cause they're always on) and many of the Cowboys problems over the years don't rest on Romo's shoulders alone.
I would be surprised if Garret is back.
kindof of like having a scientist capable of making a nuclear reactor, and continue to bring him on to head the project, even though he "phucks up quite a bit". Not quite as serious, but as a person with no interest in Cowboy football, it seems to me that they need to try another route.
Romos number are deceptive. The first 3 quarters of the game, he is terrible. When the defense is playing heads up. Once the cowboys get down by a few tds, and dez bryant decides he's ready to play, its a different ballgame. He can pad the hell out of his stat line against a prevent in the 4th quarter. Fact of the matter is he is so bad early in the game, it basically puts dallas so far behind he has to throw the ball. Romo sucks when it matters
Agree with all of your guys points, I'm a Cowboys fan so I've suffered through all the choking, I still think if they had a healthy team all year they would def be in the playoffs but oh well. Even if they did win last night, they have so many players playing hurt or on the IR they would pry be 1 and done in the playoffs anyways. If anything this will give them a better draft pick to either sure up the DL, Saftey position or OL.
Sounds like Green Bay, but they won a Super Bowl with injuries and they got to the playoffs this year injury plagued
That's true, GB still had enough play makers at every position plus A Rodgers is obviously a lot better than Romo.
These are the defensive players that were, or have been out for quite some time... not including Ware who was playing w/ a shoulder that keeps separating and other injuries.

Not seeming to think anyone O'Brien is currently recruiting hard would take the place of the people we'd like to fill out the 2013 class (Mitchell, Johnson, Bell, etc). He leaves it just means PSU will be far worse than they were this season and the B1G would be out another good coach.
Lovie getting the axe was a big surprise. So was Whisenhunt considering they were just in the Super Bowl 4 years ago. His downfall was that whole Kevin Kolb fiasco. Someone is going to pick both of them up and in a hurry.

Would love for the Browns to look at Lovie Smith or the Gruden brothers (Jay or Jon) as their head coach. Lovie Smith would be bring a level of experience for this young Browns team, while Jay Gruden could infuse an exciting offensive gameplan with Cooper, Gorden, and Little. Jon Gruden is a pipe dream as he enjoys his work with ESPiN, but would be an experienced and motivated coach, which player respect and play all out for.
Lovie would be a natural fit for Cleveland. Blue collar town, blue collar division in the AFC North, bad weather. That division also has the added bonus of not having the Packers in it.

I want no part of Lovie Smith, Jay Gruden would be an interesting hire, and Jon Gruden is a pipe dream. I would have liked to see the Browns go after David Shaw of Stanford, however he signed an extension with Stanford.
It looks like Chip Kelly is the Browns #1 target from sources throughout the league.

Two high-ranking #NFL personnel execs say Oregon HC Chip Kelly is the clear #1 choice for the Browns.

If the Browns hire Chip Kelly, I quit. It might as well be 1999 again, gimmicks do not work in the NFL. We don't see the wildcat anymore do we?

I think I just saw Bruce Feldmen predicted Ferentz to the Cheifs and Kelly to the Eagles.
Is Ferentz still eligible for B1G Coach of the Year if he's coaching the Chiefs?
Just saw a hilarious tweet from Dave Biddle over @ Bucknuts. He said "I bet Kirk Ferentz might actually beat Iowa State if he's coaching the Chiefs."
For my Chiefs: NO: Ferentz, Reid, O'brien, OC's, leftover's. YES: Gruden, Cowher, Lovie, Wisenhunt, Chip, Saban, Billick, any Harbaugh brothers left?
Thank God the Whis was finally fired. His Superbowl run was a fluke thanks to Kurt Warner. As an AZ Cards fan, I've been incredibly frustrated with Whisenhunt stubbornly refusing to upgrade the QB and OL positions in the face of overwhelming public pressure. I know the guy is a class act and hope he does well, but his days were numbered in Phoenix. Hope we can bring Andy Reid in the new year!!!

Some college coach will take a pro job and we will get a great OT prospect.
I know this isn't a Browns blog....but..... I am deeply concerned by the talk of Kelly and/or Saban (especially) to the Browns. What part of "previous successful NFL head coaching experience" do the Browns not comprehend? Just look at the losers the Browns have hired since ... 1999? Wow... Stop making Cleveland where new head coaches cut their teeth. Just stop. Hire someone who has SUCCEEDED in the NFL!
On another note... anyone checked out BSD lately!? The level of denial those folks are experiencing makes me uncomfortable (i.e. "Why would BO'B leave here? He's in a great spot! He won't leave until after he wins a B1G title!"). Gang, he knows that his stock is never going to be higher. PSU promised him (as I understand it) that this was a legal and not an NCAA issue when he was hired. That's his out. He's gone; assuming one of these NFL teams does, in fact, make him an offer.
BOB's stock could be much higher with some sustained sucess at PSU. Not mention that he has 3 more years of 0 expectations due to the sanctions. He knew what he was getting into at Penn State and I doubt that he would jump out of it so quickly, especially with the emotional bond he seemed to have with his team this year.
No Swartz?! Come on!!!
